Whoa, I know, me again? Well, this is the best place to find mature opinions on things I know of on the internet (Probally makes me kind of sad, but whatever), and im here to ask you a pregunta.( Thats question in spanish if you didn't know).
I saw a video in school today about Greed, that really made a lot of sense. It was mainly a reporter asking rich people if they were to greedy. His main question was, "You have enough money to live the rest of your life happily, why don't you just quit?" Most of them said they wanted more money.
Now most people would think, "Hey, greed is a bad thing. Greed is just the want for more and more." But the video made a great point. Greed drives people to work together to make things that the common person uses. Heres the main example they used in the video.
Lets say you want to buy a steak. You have to think of how many people work to get that steak to you. The farmers who raise the cattle send the cow to the butcher. The butcher kills the cow, and cuts it into steaks. Then he sends it to the person who puts it in plastic or boxes, who have to be checked by someone and made by someone. Then warehouse workers load the steak onto a truck, which is then driven by someone to the store, where it is put on the shelf for you to buy.
What drives ALL these people to do this? It isn't because they care about you, its because of money. They do it for money. Just think, if people were forced to work on the feeling that they are getting someone something alone, we wouldn't be doing very well will we?
The best interview in the video was with a man named Richard Sweeny or something like that. The reporter asked the man if he thought he was greedy. Sweeny told the reporter that he wasn't greedy. But then the reporter asked him, "How do you define greed?"
Sweeny responded "Wanting more and more".
So then the reporter asks him, "Have you ever denied a payraise?" And the obvious answer was "No".
Reporter: But isn't that wanting more?
Sweeny: No
Reporter: Could you live on less?
Sweeny: Yes
Reporter: Then why don't you?
Sweeny: I need more money
Reporter: But isn't that being greedy?
Sweeny: No.
So, that brings me to the negatives. Greed has brought many people out of work, caused companies to go under (Enron mainly).
But, greed drives people to make the things we all use today like computers and cars.
So my question is...is greed really that bad?
