Counter-Strike is the world's best online multiplayer first person shooter. It's been introduced for a long time. There are different versions, with different maps. Counter-strike is one of my favourite games. I have LAN parties with friends at school on weekends, and we play at home as well. I know many of you play CS with Steam. Counter-Strike 1.6 is only 20-30 dollars CAD. However there may be some people who only want to play LAN games with friends or just want to try it out for free!
Introducing, Counter-Strike Non-Steam. Non-Steam was developed a while ago. It obviopusly doesn't use steam. Which means you can only play on non steam servers. It is still online and you can create your own dedicated server to play with your friends. The best part is that it's free. It takes about 500 MB of space, and it's a whole lot of fun. I use steam but a lot of my friends who are new to CS use non steam.

At this site you'll see 2 things you'll need to download. First download the game, around 300 MB. Then install the game. Then download the patch and install it which is around 20 MB. Then double click Counter-strike on your desktop go to add servers and add a server. Fragbase also has a server. You can also google for non steam servers. sign up at www.nonameforums.com and they have a non steam server list.
So download the game, give CS a try, this'll help you determine if you want to buy the steam version or not :)
Tell your friends too, then you can all play together in a dedicated server.
If you have problems installign th egame or making a server just PM me or ask me in this thread.
PS: Steam knows about this, and it is legal.
