So, turns out my boss has a forums. It is for one of his other businesses, and is a groupie site for the island of St Martin.
Well, he told me today that he has been having problems with spammers...... I told him i would check it out.

HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!

1/2 the "threads" in the last month were spambots. Every single legit thread had 15+ spamposts......

The forums used to be a pretty lively place, around 1000+ members. Now a lot of older members have kinda drifted off (who could blame them)

The good news is he is going to hire me to clean the place up. :eek:

*Fierce clicking and quick reactions lead Jeff and his clowns to victory.*

Spambots: Haha, we wil take over rrunescape and ruin it forever!!! Mwhahwa!
And so, Runescape dies a horrible death, and once again, Jeffery and his gang of clowns, rule.

So far I have about 2 hours worth of work cleaning up the main spam. Now I am tinkering with the features of the system itself.
It is something called an "Eve Community" with an integrated forum/chat system. Kind of simple looking, but actually pretty complex on the backend.

There are a ton of features they just never enabled, including PMing and Registration being required for posting. (gee, no wonder the spambots took over)

BTW: The clowns are named Greg, George, Fred, Frank and Gwen.
