15's are ridiculously huge.
There are 10's out there (MTX Thunder) that put out just as much power and then some.
The size of the speaker dictates what notes it can play. (I'm not musician or speaker specialist.) Speakers that are 15 inches in diameter are likely to not gonna hit many notes in a song. You would need 12 inch backup speakers, which would make the 15 inch speakers pointless because the 12s will cover the sound from the 15s without question. The only way I could see them working is by adjusting the low output frequency, however the song would be off key.

Yeah you've pretty much got it dirka.
Why I like MTX Thunder is because they cover pretty much any frequency, they sound great, and they're not ridiculously huge. Honestly the size of speakers is getting really out of hand and is completely unnecessary. It's becoming a "my unit is bigger than yours" contest.

To be honest. they are becoming like most show cars. In my opinion a car should be just that. a car that does it job. the better it can do that job, or the more excitement it can provide while doing that the better.
People are slapping 'show and blow' mufflers to their cars because they want to draw attention. they should like shit and are as loud as hell.
Back in the day they where suppose to simulate the sound of a high performance (FULL) exhaust system. which they no longer do because anything that's going to cost over 700$ in the way of exhaust doesn't sound that shitty.
Subs are becoming the same. like Sess said. it's a fucking show contest now. 'who can move more air' I've been to more then my share of car shows. I've even attended something called a DB drag (essentially a Decibel drag-race). Every one who was beating out their competition was sure, loud as fuck but you couldn't even hear the words to what ever it was they where playing (if they where playing a song and not random computer frequency noises).
I've got A, yes ONE 12" sub in my trunk. Another thing about this matter... the sub boxes are becoming just as much a show piece as the rest of the car. and I'll bet more then half of the 'fancy' sub boxes dont even come close to the required square footage of space for the sub to properly breath. especially these 15-20 inch subs. My one 12 inch alone renders my HOLE trunk useless. and I've seen people with larger/more in the same car....
Basically my point being:
Performance is being lots for wiz and bang

I have a box with 2 10 inch Sony Xplods with an amp and that takes up literally all the space in the back of my 300zx, which is very limited to begin with. I wouldn't be able to get anything bigger, nor do I need it in such a small car. If I really crank it up my rear view mirror won't stay in place :p. Not super loud like competition speakers, but it sounds nice and it's still loud. Main thing I can't stand is the people who put in the big speakers and don't put the soundproofing in their trunk and doors and they rattle like hell.

Cars are about show too, although I just want speed. My subs don't overpower the song, there is more vibration than there is noise. That's the beauty of JL. It doesn't just pound, while it can, it makes music.

I have two 15'' JLB subs in a box that take up pretty much my hole trunk space. And I used to think the trunk was HUGE..oh well. I got two amps, one for the two 15's (2200) and the other (840) for the speakers I got to replace the stock one I had. (forgot what you call these..) And I got a cap which looks cool. Lol. And I managed to blew the first fuse within ten minutes of getting my car back.. haha. My next project is a legit alarm system. And then under lights and tint. Then when I'm off in college I'm get some rims on that bitch. Can't do too much now.. because my mom will start asking questions and I don't want that arguement..and it was really risky of me to even get my system..

And of course, with my luck, there have been tornado warnings like every frickin night for the past week. With school and work it has rained in my car like 3 times already.
And tonight was the worst yet... I'm coming home from work thinking, "ok its just starting to rain, I'll be ok if I get home soon enough." Right? WRONG. Ran out of gas because I haven't even been paying attention to it lately... Putting $60 at the beginning of the week used to keep me good till the next week, apparently not anymore with these gas prices.
I had to wait for my step dad to get home (which was like an hour) so I could get gas, put it in my car, and drive home through rain... And now, on top of that, the check engine light is on.
Anyone know any problems that moisture, inside the car, can cause the engine? Or is it possible that was just on, the whole car ride home, because I had just ran out of gas...?

Well this is one of the biggest subjects in my life lol. I will be leaving in a few months to start my training. Light vehicle mechanic for the USMC.
Currently I work as a general tech for a local shop. Basically car's are in my blood as EVERYONE in my family down to my great aunt (who believe it or not was Mr. Henry Ford's personal secretary) is making a living working on car's or doing something in the automotive field. I am going to continue that as my love for car's...and mostly speed is unbelievable.
Now I own a 96 Camaro. Powered by a LT1. Not stock. I have a short throw, full 3 inch exhaust. Intake. Mild cam. 4.10 gears (shitty gas millage since they make my car run at about 3400 RPM at 65 MPH down the highway) Aftermarket heads. High comp pistons. And in about 3 days as soon as it gets here I will have a 6puck stage 2 clutch that is rated to 700 hp. About 2 months ago it made 489 HP and 418 ft lbs. That was without the cam and heads. I am hoping to be close to 600 hp when im done
When I got the car about 8months ago I ran it at the local strip and ran 13.8 on the 1/4. I am shooting for low 11's high to mid 10's by the time I get done with it. Keep in mind that run was also on street tires. My next trip to the strip will be on Drag radials or slicks. Idk about the slicks tho I might hook a little to much and snap an axle or blow my rear end up. O well.
If anyone wants I can post some pics up :)

Just, FYI.... you'll likely never see low 11's with a '96 unless you've customized the drive in some way to handle that (otherwise you'll just burn for 10 minutes, and even more so with a 6puck clutch. P.S. At 489hp with those specs, assuming the gears were on during this trap time, you should be running high 12's. Trust me, find some sort of slip control.

I was hitting high 12's with my LT1 T/A. I ran Nitto 555R in the rear with an 11" tire.
It took me forever to get my 60' right. I was running around 350 rwhp through a stall and an A4 tranny. I ran 3.73s, 4.11s would have killed my mpg with an A4 :D
489 to the wheels, btw?
I'd be worried about that rear-end blowing up. 10-bolts aren't known for their ability to live very long. Maybe a 12-bolt or 9 inch Moser in the future?

Yeah throw up your cam specs if you get time. The cam I ran required a tune, headers, and a stall, I believe I ran a 2400 stall. From what I understand, the 9 inch can hold up better than the 12 bolt. At least at the dragstrip the F-body is good as far as launching, thank god for a solid rear axle. My Corvette doesn't have that much luck when it comes to hooking up. A 2.1 60 ft as opposed to a 1.8 in the T/A. Also, I'm getting carried away, but got the flow numbers? Any work to the throttle body?

Well I went to autozone today, for that free analysis where they plug the thing into your car to tell you whats wrong when the "check engine light," comes on.
I think it said something like "random cylinders were firing," if that makes sense to you car guys. The guy said its usually caused by water getting into your ignition or something... Which makes sense.
Worst case scenario, if it doesn't dry out, is I would have to replace the spark plugs/wiring. Which even I can handle. A friend of mine told me it would be in the $60ish range. Does that sound about right to you guys?

I'm thinking if it has to do with a leak as far as moisture goes, it could be the distributor. All engines have a pattern in which they fire, not sure what random cylinders firing means, unless it means some aren't firing. The water wouldn't particularly cause the plugs/wires to go bad. Check the seal on your distributor cap, if moisture is getting in, spray some WD-40 around it.

I have a 1998 Pontiac grand prix. The guy at autozone seemed to know like exactly what had caused it... Said that its usually caused by water getting in the ignition system. And I hadn't even said anything about it raining in my car...
But yeah, you're idea sounds a lot cheaper, so I will try that first. :p
But would some moisture in the distributor cap make the check engine light go on?
It could cause a misfire, so yes.
If you're having problems with the car cranking after a rain or something, to figure out if the problem is the distributor or the cap, start up your car put it in neutral and hold the brake then push the gas all the way down, if it bogs down that might be your problem.

Check your coils. I do not think your car has a distributer. I think it uses coils. What engine is in it? v6? If so its like a 3800 or a 3400 something like that. Both use coil packs. It it most likely one of them is bad. I believe both of those engines is have 3 coils. If its not that then it is your plugs and wires.
I think you are right about the coils. And yeah, v6.
How do I check my coils?
ArcPaladinZero
06-11-2008, 10:12 AM
Heh, I think I over generalized about the distributor.
Do you have a volt meter by any chance? That would be the first place to start for coil testing. But the primary should read between low like .7 or .75 ohms, the secondary should be 10k ohms. Someone help here, I'm certainly rusty on the topic, seeing as how I haven't worked with ignition coils in a while, ha. Anything else generally means it's time for a replacement. Sorry, I'm at work or I'd take a few minutes and look up the specifics for your car.
I didn't have a volt meter, but I ended up getting new plugs and wires today. The plugs were all in really weird ass, annoying, hard-to-get-to places that caused a lot of minor burns (was in a bit of a rush, and didn't really let my engine cool down after I got home) and aggravation.
I had a pretty big scare as I was doing the last one though, because the ceramic end of the spark plug broke as I was unscrewing it. I assume that was the problem, because none of the other ones broke, and I wasn't particularly rough or anything.... Maybe it was cracked or something?
But yeah, I was pretty scared because I was just like, "oh shit, now this is gonna be stuck in there and I will be fucked." But I was lucky with where it broke, and was still able to get it out.
Now the car runs fine (there wasn't anything noticeably different about it before, but eh) and the check engine light turned off after a while. Now all I have to do is get that window up, or get a new motor for it.

Just for future reference. Arc, your doing it the hard way checking coils.
On his car he has three coils packs. Every coil is wired to 2 cylinders. To check them start the car. Get something that will insulate you and the coil wire. (your will get shocked if you don't, but nothing that will hurt you at all) Got about just pulling the coil wires one by one.
When you pull one wire the engine SHOULD lose RPM and start running REALLY rough as soon as you pull it. If it starts running worst put the wire back on and go to the next one. When you pull a wire off the engine stays the same and does nothing or it does not spark between the wire and the coil when you remove the wire, that coil is bad.
In my opinion if your not scared of a low low voltage shock this is much easier that using a volt meter but both work.
Pills,
Yes when changing spark plugs I would recommend you buy a spark plug remover socket. They help greatly reduce the chance of breaking plugs and yes, it is a heart wrenching feeling when one snaps off at the block. Been there and done that twice and I am still glad I had some vary smart tech around me to get me out of the bind each time. But ya with things like that make sure you always take your time. The extra 20 sec you take will save you a lot of money and grief. Also I have never seen a v-block engine that is in a GM car that the plugs and wires are vary easy to change out or replace lol.
Glad ya got your car fixed. It is vary possible that your plug was cracked or damaged in some way.

Don't you wish you could just drop the engine to change the plugs? They really wedged the LT1 in the F-body.
I have seen it done via hold and shock method but I was taught with a volt meter. One of the most fun things I've ever done is jumped aboard on the tuning process of a few cars. Especially newer cars, it's like everything can be done through the ECU now.

Shit,
Hardest thing I have had to go through on that car is changing those damn plugs. I hate how everything is wedged in there. But that is GM for ya. Making this as difficult as possible! Yesterday I was walking into advanced auto. Some guy was in the parking lot changing the plugs on his truck. I just chuckled as I walked by.
Yeah I honestly don't do to much work on tuning. I have done a-lot on my car but, that is not really my expertise. But I do agree with you that it is amazing how much you can change your performance with a little computer.

Had to replace the optispark yet? Luckily I never had to on my T/A but my Vette's been bogging down low under heavy throttle and up in the higher RPMs under WOT it's been stuttering out. Plus after a heavy rain, she struggles to crank.

I've been long stuck between a LS2 GTO and a C5 Corvette, couldn't find a late model GTO in blue with a decent set of miles so I'm going with an '02 Vette I've found with only 20k miles. After that and selling my current ride, I'll be heading to MTI Racing (http://www.mtiracing.com), they specialize in the LS engines.

Wickedness, if you go for it, make sure you give us plenty of pics to get all googley eyed over.
And here's a quick few that I could come up with of my old T/A off my Myspace.

One of the things I learned quickly was when I had to buy the strut bar and subframe connectors. A few hard launches and after a while I noticed especially where my doors met the body it was beginning to twist from the torque. Luckily those quick weld ons helped remedy that problem.
If I had the time and money I'd turn the next Vette into better handling car maybe for an occasional auto-x. If only, one day.

oh hey, cool bump. i need a car. like now. starting monday i have to borrow my grandpa's F150, which i hate driving.
i might be going out today to just look at some cars though (none of the places are actually "open"). at first i was looking into a VW Rabbit, but they're kinda hard to find in manual (or in automatic, for that matter). The one I was looking into was sold like two days before I went out to look at it.
So now I was looking into the Scion tC. Made by Toyota, and rated very good. I'm not looking to really mod it out at all, which is what I guess most people try to do. I just want a nice and reliable small-ish car with plenty of room for my drums (with the backs seats down, it looks like it's got a ton of room), and manual. Preferably under $18k.
Angelic-Hotfox
08-24-2008, 11:13 AM
Reliable, smallish-car with decent trunk space and under 18k?
Scion tC is a pretty good choice, a lot of my friends I know have them and I like the way they look and the interior is pretty cool. The only thing I don't like about that car is it's a little weak, I think stock it has 173 horsepower but its still a good car and you can always make it faster if you do decide to mod it.
A Subaru Impreza 2.5i is also pretty good, im not a big fan of the 08 style so if you find a 06 or 07 thatd be cool, or a used WRX. Car looks amazing, the AWD comes in handy during winter months or if you live in a place where it rains a lot (or if you live in a mountainous region), the 2.5i comes with 178 HP stock the WRX I think is 225, so a little more horsepower than the tC. You can also do lots to mod that car.
Mazda 3 also a good car, around the same price range as the previous listed cars. If you're looking for a faster version you could go for the Mazdaspeed 3 which has something around 250 HP? I think I'd have to check but it also costs around 25k. The regular Mazda 3 is around 17k.
Besides that you could always go for a Civic which will give you good gas mileage which is good especially in a time when gas is super expensive. Its pretty cheap, saves you a lot of money on gas, and is really reliable, and I heard the people that work at all the Honda dealerships are generally nicer and more helpful compared to other dealerships. Down side to a Civic is that its also the most common car to get stolen.
Other cars you could look at:
-Hyundai Tiberon
-Mitsubishi Eclipse (try and get the newer model ones, they look nicer)
-Used Audi A4 (you can find some 04-05 A4 for reallllyyy suprisingly cheap)
-Ford Focus
-Acura Integra (used)
-Acura RSX (you'll have to find these used because they discontinued making them)
-Mitsubishi Lancer (just the normal lancer, not the EVO, another rally car which is a rival to the Subaru Impreza line)

speed-wise, i really don't care much. right now i drive my mom's toyota echo, and am fairly content with that as far as speed goes. also, i don't want anything too fast that'll shoot up my insurance. :D
I haven't really checked subaru out too much, but i will. I know they're pretty reliable cars, overall.
the mazda 3 seems a little big for what I want (hatchback version, anyway), but that's just based on pictures. I haven't seen one in person so I dunno.
the civic also seemed like a good choice, but the shifter seems really awkward. again, i'd have to see/drive it in person though.

but based on what i saw, i really liked the tCs and should easily fit the drums in them. i need to go in for a test drive sometime. i also passed a dealer with some VW Rabbits, but they were all brand new and 18k+.

why are tinted windows cheesy? Its already tinted so it saves you about $250, which is about how much the dealership would've charged you if you decided to tint untinted windows, they block out the sun, keep your car at a cooler temperature, it protects the interior, raises the value of your vehicle, makes it harder for people to peep in and see if there are any valuables in your car, if decreases the chance of your car getting stollen, and it helps with resale value (read that in a Newsweek article). Trust me you want tinted windows. Plus it looks sooo much better

So tomorrow I'm putting in the final payment for my 1986 Ford Mustang LX Convertible. It's got 128,000 miles, which I think is pretty good for how old it is. Brand new Interior and roof. It drives great, but the tires need inflating.
So for $2200 it doesn't seem so bad. :)
But then again, I could use some expert opinions. There's no dents or scratches. White paint, black roof, and dark blue interior.

Yeah, Carfax and the dealership that was selling both said that there have only been two owners before me in the past, so they know the car. It's a six cylinder too. Plus, it's the original paint job and it still looks good. :)
I'm planning on having my boyfriend sand it down and paint it for me in the future, since he can do it for free. Probably viper or pearl blue with purple pearl in the overcoat. Hopefully I can give it a "candy blue" kind of look, idk yet though. Suggestions would be cool.

sooo I just bought that tC. Pretty good price too. Apparently the original price from the dealer was 18,990 something. According to Blue Book it was worth 19,505. Both are more than the basic car is worth brand new though (although it practically is new with only 7565 miles on it). So I assume it's got some extras on it (I know it has upgraded rims + window tint + official floor mats, might be more).
Anyway, Sunday it was marked 15,590. I went in today to test drive, and it was 14,990. So long story short, I'm picking it up Thursday (couldn't drive it home today cause insurance crap). :D

sooo I just bought that tC.
NOW the fun begins. Car payments.
Car payments are a blast, I'm dropping north of $500 a month for my Vette. It's a buyer's market out there so prices are low, I've seen new trucks on lots for nearly half of MSRP.

Yaayyy Car payments.
Ponefish: Yes he does, he painted his jeep and works in a fiberglass shop...so even if he couldn't do something someone else could.
Today I had a problem with my car. I was driving home from the mall, and when it was supposed to be switching gears at 2000 rpm...it started slipping and wouldn't stay in gear unless if I took my foot off the gas and put it back on.
So then eventually it just stopped accelerating past 2000 rpm all together, and I got extremely frustrated and pulled into a parking lot.
My engine was really really hot, and I can't go full-throttle...so basically it accelerates like crap. Yet ALL of the fluids are full, including the transmission fluid and coolant. The radiator cap might be old, but everything inside looks fine.
The guy who sold it to me is going to pick it up from my house tomorrow morning and fix it for me free of cost because he feels bad. So I guess it's not the worst situation, but it sucks when you're all excited for something and then something goes completely wrong. :\

Nothing. They're paying for it.
Since it was less than 24 hours between when I had this problem to when I bought it from them, they felt obligated to fix it. Hopefully that'll fix the problem.

So I got a really, really good deal on my '4th' truck last month.
1998 S-10 Chevy, auto, 4 cyclinders, 60k miles. Extra: Cd player, cruise control, new speakers, new wheels.
The only problem with the truck were very few dents and they were hardly noticeable.
Got the truck for $4,600 when it was really worth around $6,000.
I could have gotten a brand new truck if I wanted, but I didn't feel like being a sucker for paying 300-400 a month for a couple of years. SCREW THAT. Although, I'm pretty sure I will end up getting a brand new truck in a couple of years.

wrong. they don't drain you're battery like hell. I have underlights, an alarm, and a sound system added to my battery and they never drain my battery. Hell, sometimes when I'm just running into a gas station or walmart at night I just leave them on and my battery doesn't die. Just the other night I left them on with the car off for at least ten minutes and I had no problems with the battery. ;)

I've only got about $150 left in the bank now... good thing tomorrow's payday.
And wizzy, I wasn't saying people who fix up there car can't drive. I wasn't really trying to say people with neons can't drive either, that's just the first impression I get when I see them. But I never actually judge someone based on that. Just like you can get a first impression by looking at someone, I try not to judge people like that either.

car with my laptop on it, which I'm on right now (falcon NW DRX).
Anyway, I have a 1999 Porsche 911 (996) with a couple of mods. It has a full exhaust (headers, decat, sports mufflers), intake, professional tune, clutch, lightweight flywheel, and some other mods. Makes about 305 whp, and my current best with it on street tires is a 12.5 in the 1/4.
My other car is a 2005 dodge durango SLT Hemi, with just an intake. I've ran a 14.8 with that. No idea about the HP, haven't cared enough to get it tested, but I'd expect around the same whp as the Porsche.

SWEET car! I love Porsche 911s. Well, I love how how they look anyway. I've never driven, or even sat in one.
But unfortunately, I'll probably never own one. They just don't have enough space in them, and whatever I drive has to be able to fit a full-sized drum set. :)

A full-sized drum set? oh man, you're missing out on a LOT of possibilities then!
I've been trying to figure out what I want to get for my next car, and I'd really consider a 996 turbo, c6 z06, or possibly an arial atom. A friend of mine got an atom a few months back, really an amazing little car...so fast, too.

Yea, not too bad though. My drums and set up are small. I used to be able to comfortable fit everything in a Toyota Echo and still have two passengers. I drive a scion TC now, and it's holds them all extremely easily.
But ya know, when I'm all rich and famous and whatnot, I'll be able to buy 10 cars so it's all good.

Walked like a sad little dog... and just about every other video I've seen. Hell, the GTR struggles to get a sub 12 second time without launch control. Most LS2 and LS3 with minor mods are pounding low 11's and high 10's.
Ugh, typical overweight car with bloated electronics. Good luck at getting one remotely near MSRP. New Z06s are going for under 65k. Sports cars shouldn't be that heavy...

I'm honestly not too impressed with the R35 Skyline either, and I'm a HUGE Skyline fan.
I've always loved the the engine in the 2002 Skyline R34, the RB26DETT.
Very powerful engine, but used in a fairly overweight car. I'm still saving up the money to put one in my 300ZX project (look on Ebay, they sell Skyline engines quite a bit), which would be a perfect candidate for the engine, very lightweight and handles like a dream. I have enough money for the engine, but I need a RWD transmission that will fit, so I haven't imported one yet.

Hey if I had the time to convert and upload my movies from my cell phone I could give you a little clip right before we did 2 laps around the track from last year's Mitty. It's grainy and not the highest quality but I had a blast. I usually hit up both the Mitty and Petit Le Mans every year, they're spread out enough and not too expensive.
Edit: Don't talk about pics, post post post! :D
Oh I just checked my cell phone, I've got a 10 minute clip of me slowly making my way to the track in my '95 behind a C6 then a shorter clip of me actually on the track going under one of the Mazda signs. My battery went dead somewhere along the way and I lost a bit but still it's one of those things you have to experience for yourself.
Everyone should come out to Road Atlanta, the fans are what really make the whole event a blast, there were over 100,000 people there last year. If I had the time to take off of work I'd be out there with an RV all weekend. It's only $65 for the Saturday event. I might get in underneath things... I happen to know the guy who runs security at the place... tee hee. He's actually one of my group counselors here at my office and he's working the track that day.

Well it wasn't exactly racing. More like a cruise with some slowing down for the old farts to get out of the way and then running 70 through some wide turns, the fastest I hit was about 95, felt great.

a GT-R is only packing so much weight because of the AWD
the z06 or most cars idiots on youtube put up against the GT-R are rear or front 2 wheel and will obviously beat a GT-R from a flat start. But once again for the japanese its all about balance which they do with control and speed which explains why so many japanese cars are centered around suspension mods rather than engine mods. put any of those cars in those vids against a GT-R on a mountain, mud, snow, sand, a road with turns. GT-R = the win. Same with an STi or a Evo X, they suck at flat starts but at 60-50 or even 20 rolls they will smoke cars that would smoke them from a flat.

Yeah Panoz designed all their cars on Road Atlanta, and I can imagine the driving school is outrageously priced, though probably worth every penny. I learned how to drive a BMW by my friend Jay. He went through the BMW driving school and is a HELL of a driver and BMW mechanic.

It's actually the other way around... AWD cars hook better from a dead stop than from a roll.
By the way, if I wanted to drive around in mud... I'd probably take an old modded CJ Jeep.
And yes, RWD cars must suck around tracks... seeing as how the C5 and C6 Race cars have dominated the ALMS.

heh, those are like two completely different cars. pretty high mileage on both of them though.
if you need more space for drum sets and whatnot, or if you know you'll do a lot of "off-road" driving, grab the jeep. if space isn't an issue and you're planning to stay on the road, i'd take the eclipse. (but that's just my opinion based on the two cars, not including factors such as mileage or condition)

Does gas mileage play into that decision? If so, I'd go with the Mitsu.
If hauling people or junk around is your game go with the Jeep.

BUUURP *wrong*
if anything in a car like that (being the target of people like me who tend to burn the piss out of the things (simply because the Japps built 'em for it)) I'd look into the Clutch, ware/tear on the frame, chases, and suspension (if theres something wrong with the suspension then the previous owners where a reall ass to the poor thing.) Though Blex's recommendation to look into the transmition isn't bad, I'd also check the records to see the last time the timing belt was replaced.
From what I understand, Japanese cars are easy to find parts for, plus they're pretty fast. But Jeeps are more reliable, and this one is much more roomy. O_o WUT!?
Japanese cars are not as easy to find parts for (new after market that is) lots of used stuff but some of it may be older then what your looking to replace. Car camping wouldn't be an issue in an eclipse provided its the modle that's got a hatch back. if you fold the back seats down (for most vichicals like it, Toyota Celica, Acura RSX/Integra etc etc) they have WAYYY more room then you'd ever imagine possible. my dream car for example the RSX, when I went to try one I made a point of checking to see if there would be enough trunk space for my subs. It blew my mind, with the back seats down it was on pick up truck proportions.
Let me put it this way. Japanese cars are more reliable then a wood burning stove. Provided they have been looked after and had regular maintenance. They may seem "faster" simply because they are visually designed to appear so and the little tuned small cylender engines tend to give off more RPM and a "faster" sound when in fact they aren't really all that much faster.
The jeep.... how do I break this to you... they suck. Hard on gass, history of being 'rugged' in the short term and un-reliable in the long term. Typical GMC vehicle, expensive parts/serves by dealers. very little after market part selections. if they aren't round into the ground the older GM motors develop noises that "cant be located but I think its working fine aside from that" noise to match your shotty suspension (especially if some red neck got the thing lifted)
If you'd like I can talk to a few friends of mine who have owned jeeps in the past and I think Josh still has his Eclips I'll bug him to let me take it out (though his is quite new [luckily before they got ugly though]) and I'll come up with some more imput if you'd like? Just fire me off a PM and i'll letcha know.

Psst....Jeep is a Chrysler Product:bad:....and that is actually worse than a GM product..... Chrysler can't seem to make a decent tranny.
Mitsubishi would be my pick over the jeep.

I will confess I have a hate for cars that start with eclip and civi that being said that is why I would pick the jeep. I wont even sit in Mitsubishi car and the only Honda I would ride in is a Del Sol or Pilot. I'm not a fan of Chrysler either but.... Eclipse... No

I thought you were getting the Mustang Convertible.
I have it right now, and it's done for. It's slowly breaking down and it's gonna end up costing way more than it's worth to fix. I'd be better off buying a new car I don't have to constantly make into a project.
And I'm going with the Jeep. It's got 113,000 miles in 9 years, which is like an average amount. No rust, runs good. The Mitsubishi...Idk it's a really cute car but I have a bias against asian cars. Plus, it's got 150,000 miles on it and its only 7 years old. The Jeep is already inspected and still has the manufacturer's warranty on it, plus new tires. V6 I think, but I could be wrong. It's also $1000 cheaper than the Mitsubishi. I talked to the guy today and he pretty much finalized my decision.
Thanks for the input guys, it actually did help a bit.
Nec, You need to chill with the "omg I know everything about cars" attitude. I love you, but you need to stop. Don't think you're the only person I've talked to with extreme knowledge of cars. :p

Pft, any car will last if it is taken care of. Drive the piss out of any car and it will fall apart. LS engines are some of the strongest most reliable engines out there that can take a beating for sure. My cousin's 1500 Silverado has over 250k miles on it and the only thing hurting is the suspension rides a little rough and transmission kicks a little but with proper maintenance anything can last.
The key is knowing what to take care of and how to take care of it. Most people have the misconception that outside of oil changes and new tires nothing else needs attention.
There's plenty of Civics, Jettas, and just about every other car on the market that if it hasn't been properly maintained and driven into the ground will fall apart before even turning over 100k miles.
Granted, some cars have more faults that others and things that come straight from the factory that are junk... Take most Fords for example. :D
I hate hearing the arguments of my car is better than yours for XXX reason. We could argue this all day long but in the end most everyone has a preference and absolutely everyone has an opinion.

Yeah... I've been in a few Eclipses, and the back seats are cramped as hell, at least the ones I've been in. Yeah they have the same amount of seats, but for one, at least two people can ride comfortably-enough in the back, and if people ever needed to sit on laps in a Cherokee it'd be A LOT more comfortable than a tiny ass Eclipse.

Exactly, my Trans Am had backseats as well, good luck fitting anyone over 4' tall back there, and they're SOL, I'm sure the Eclipse isn't a whole lot better.

People who drive automatic are annoying.
Yesterday I got off the highway to go a back way cause traffic sucked, and I had to stop on a really steep hill cause there were cares lined up at the stop sign. I looked in my mirror thinking "please, noone pull up behind me." Sure enough, some guy pulls up ridiculously close. So since I've got a manual, the second I let off the break my car started sliding backwards fast and I had to slam on the gas just to avoid hitting him. My tires were squealing and I'm guessing I missed hitting him by a few inches, cause after that he gave me plenty of room. :)
So to all you automatic drivers (or manual, if you do this), don't pull up as close as you can to other cars whenever at a stop sign or something, especially if going uphill. Cause it's annoying.

That's what you get with the idiots on the road. Practice makes perfect though with a manual transmission.
I'll say this much, motorcycles apparently go invisible, to some people, while in motion. At least that's how I feel out there sometimes, if anyone has to be extra careful it's us guys on the bikes. :ninja:
