Dumb question. Since I just bought new tires that cost about a grand I really need to know. Does power sliding in the snow hurt the tire? I don't think it would, drastically. I've killed my tires pretty good power sliding on dry pavement.
Your telling me! and why are you taking off your spoiler, it sutes the car. Unles of coarse your going to be replacing it.
Better gas mileage. Less attention from cops and assholes. I'll replace it eventually. For now it is getting me too much attention.

Because I don’t spend like you I prefer to do it in snow, or at least on wet pavement but yes. nothing drastic but yes. And depending on what kind of donuts you do you can do serious damage to your struts.

I would be getting less than a year out of these tires if I drove like I wanted to on dry pavement. They should last 3 years. I'm gonna have some fun in the snow though. I've only driven a minivan before this  . I'll be afraid that it's going to flip over, probably.

It wont. If the snow is good (I'll teach you how to know) then all you should do is slide out. Trust me your more likely to flip over on concrete then in snow.I would be getting less than a year out of these tires if I drove like I wanted to on dry pavement.
Hell if I drove the way I wanted to in a car like yours I'd be lucky if my tires lasted half as long as that.

I empathize for you, I learned to drive in an 02' Civic SI tippity top of the line.

You know I just noticed that you kept referring to your car as an “EVO” it took me until now to realize that you mean an evolution the Mitsubishi is your car. I thought you where trying to sell your Mitsu’ in order to buy one of these (http://www.evo.co.uk/) “EVO's”. I will admit that it sounds stupid, and when you showed me the pictures you said you where trying to sell it which threw me farther in the wrong direction. Don’t forget I’m a car enthusiast I thought you where talking about this and that’s why I felt it to be so far out of reach for you. It was totally impossible

Even though I'm more then sure that your planing on driving your mitsu for a good number of years. I plan in the next year or 2 to get a 99' Acura Integra LX. I don’t really feel I need to apologies for both necroing and multiple posting in this thread but I probably should any ways. Sorry.
It is perfect out tonight. I had to let out my joy out to some one some how, seeing as no one else was out tonight. It’s the first night all week the rain has let up enough to go for a good spin. I mean literally the asphalt is perfectly saturated for drifting, power sliding, drifting and all that stuff that makes my life my life.
I was sort of hoping that when I went threw town that, that Integra would be some where in some back parking lot or something. I haven’t had time to get any good challenges in since I moved to this little college town, there is literally NOTING here (If the college shut down the town would die). From what I have seen the Acura looks like a 95’-98’, Black with sides skirts, front and rear bumper build, decant rims and muffler. I have no idea as to what experience the driver has but I’m sure a few good revs from me and they may realize it’s a clange. One of these days I will get that race and I’m sure I’ll fill in any other enthusiasts with the juicy details on this thread.
Any ways all I realy wanted to say was I got a good adrinalen rush tonight
At the start of the week I also got my new camera the Fuji FinePix S6000fd. I decided to take my camera and tripod along for the ride (granted the tripod bouncing around in the back). I went up right next to the high way and got some pretty sweet blurring images, mostly because you have to use a slow shutter speed due to the darkness. If you want you can PM me and I’ll send you some links. They will also be in my signature link, when I get them sorted through them.

Yet another pour sole who learned to drive in a minivan.
This reminds me of a question I was going to ask you Eric. If you learned to drive in a minivan, and assuming it was an automatic. Then how did you really learn to 0-60 in a little under 5 seconds, with in less then a week of getting your new car? Unless you some kind of super learner then I’m not entirely sure that can be true. Does you family also have a standard car? You must have had previous experience with a clutch.
I’m curios Dirka, please fill me in.
And for any one who is intersted here are the only photos I took the time to put on the host.

Aside for on a fourwheeler, which is utterly different, I had no prior experience. Thing is, only gotta shift into second to get to 60, so it's one shift. I am a fast learner when it comes to cars though.

I figured that much. That's why I knew it deep down when you said you beat the viper you really didn’t I have never seen any one try to win a 0-60 race, Sure you could have beet him to the 60 mark but I’m sure he stomped you after that. It’s almost always “to the end of the road” or “from here to the next highway exit”. So sure your car has the power to accelerate but you where still not very experienced with the clutch. So the viper would have stomped you on the quarter mile or even 0-100.

Granted, I didn't go further than 60. I let off the gas at 60 and it kicked up to about 70, then I let the car slow down when the viper pretty much high tailed it to the next country. I've already got enough speeding tickets.
Anyway, I got some modifications lined up. It should do 1/4 mile in 10 seconds by the end of next year, and in two years it should do it in 7.5 seconds at 190mph.

This is the one and only plus side to moving to the middle of absolutely no where: there is absolutely nothing, including RCMP.(police)
I really shouldn’t say “No police” but there are so few of them present I pretty much have free rein over the place. There are only 2 RCMP cruisers for all 3 of the local counties combine LOL!

And, since it should be on the forefront of every automotive discussion: the Tesla Roadster. I don't know if it's been discussed here or not, but it's worthy of being discussed again. As long as the company maintains good contact, support, and maintenance with their customers, this could be the way of tomorrow.
Not only is the Tesla's fully electric sports car an answer to the questions of whether or not electric cars will ever be fun to drive as well as economical, but it is also the answer to whether or not sports cars will live on when emissions standards tighten and/or alternate fuel supplies become necessary in order to keep commuting. It may not be the immediate future, but dinosaurs just aren't dying and becoming fuel like they used to.
I may sound very enthused about it, but it's difficult to tell whether it will be a staggering success or a devastating failure, pushing the idea of an electric car backwards even farther. However, if it is a success, I can't wait to rev up my 300 horsepower electric roadster someday, slam it to 14,000 rpms with the accompanying sound of a jet engine turbine from behind me and coast to 60 in >4 seconds, all while saving the 3 legged jackalopes.

I really don't think the sports car will live on to what it is now when we do change over. And I know for sure that the mussel car is as good as dead. Sure the new generation will have the toque and hose power but where is the sound the feel and nostalgia?

Some of you may not believe it but I just got to test drive a Pontiac Solstice… Though I did do more then just take pictures of it. I got to parade around the school showing it off to all my friends and such. Afterward I took her onto the highway for a session, lets say passing a neon at 180KM/H at 6,500RPM in a kick ass car is more then enough of a rush in it’s self. There was an oncoming semi that I had to dart around as well. Regardless the expression on the neon drivers face was priceless. I whish I had taken my camera along for the ride… Either way I have a few good pictures and videos of it. I’ll try to host a quick video of me doing a doughnut with some E-breaking at the end. Man that is one peppy ride, though don’t get me wrong I’m much rather have a Honda S2000, but a nice car nun the less.

A real sports car? Well, since I got my evo and have been going to some races, I've driven 3 different lamborghinies and a porche 911. I'm exactly 6ft as well and in all those cars what I said was exactly correct. Only difference was that one of the lamborghinies adjusted automatically, lol. What exactly is a real sports car? Anyway, my evo is in the shop, I bent a rim pulling 360ies as well as bent the unibody slightly. Not a big deal, didn't hit anything, just was doing them too often and too fast. I was probably doing 20 a day at 60mph. Someone told me to go faster and it'll slip more and put less stress on the unibody.

To me, an s2000 is what I call slow. Sports car? It takes more than 5 seconds to get to 60mph. Maybe we have different definitions, but to me a sports car must also be a race car. My car, completely stock, owns that "sports car."
Anyway, I doubt it would roll unless I got going near 100mph. I'm thinking somewhere around 80mph would be ideal to pull it. I would hate to need to use the ebrake though, it's cheap. Can't do it in the snow either, because the overcorrection just makes it drift sideways. The rain helps out a little bit, obviously, but snow is too much. I don't know exactly what I should do. It would appear nobody in the world does what I do either, I can't find any information.

Well, I can't PM, it's turned off. I'll tell ya what I do here.
You need a road with about 30ft in width. This is just an average two lane road with a nice shoulder. That or an empty parking lot if it makes you feel safer. Basically, you turn sharply left and then sharp right. This will get the wheels burning out, right when you get to the side of the road on the right you have to cut left completely, which is the overcorrection. If the car is good for it and you've done it right, you'll just rotate left instead of actually stearing left. The main problem is being timid, you actually have to make the wheels go as far as they possibly can with every action. Another thing is you definitly don't want to keep rotating, after a 360 from 60mph you'll be going about 50mph. If you get down to under 30mph, chances are you'll grip and go right off the road. The rotational centripital force will keep going, so once you've done a 360, you need to hit the brake to get it to stop rotating.

You don't even down sift to get the RMPs up to the point the tires will spin out easier?
I doubt I'll be able to do this... I don't have power stearing
I would never get the wheel from full lock left to right any where near fast enough.
The best time to do this is just as it starts to snow, befor too much starts to colect on the ground. It's a little better then rain but much better then 2-3' of snow.
Ice and snow is only fun in a completely empty parking lot going about 1000km/h see how may full spins you can get etc.

That might be why it's so easy for me. My steering ratio is like 1:4. It's like driving a gokart. My wheel only turns about 170deg. Snow has always resulted in the car drifting and not rotating. Anyway, you might be able to do it with RPMs. Considering I can do it with overcorrection, once the tires let loose, the RPMs goto the rev limiter anyways because the tires just spin.

01-20-2007, 09:37 PM
Yeah RPMs would be another good way to get the tires loose, sadly I clearly don't have the torque.
I find reverse is most fun for snow. Take her up to RPM governor in reverse, cut the wheel lock up all the wheels and see what you get. Try it for me next time you get the chance. I'm interested to see how a better handling car will... well, handle it.

I've done it, only I've gotten it to about 20mph in reverse and just cut the wheel and locked the brakes (which is hard to do because of the anti-locks). Same effect, almost, probably a little bit slower because of the anti-locks. It pulls a 180 and just goes forward, unless I lock the brakes until it starts to turn and then give it gas, in which case it just keeps doing axis spins. I believe you're more talking about the axis spins, which are fun. Reverse donuts, which in my car it actually spins on the axis.

No. I do those too, but they are more fun on dry pavement. I have a oldy so there is no anti lock, no power stearing, or other traction stability doodads...
I can almost get up to 60km/h in reverce. I'm pretty sure it half kills the car but I can get a 720 almost every time. Doing it forward isn't as great but I have slid over 300 feet by just locking up in the snow. Kinda just went all over the place, but it was ok because I was in an empty lot.

Yea, reverse is always great because you are steering with the backend of the car essentially. It's like those lawnmowers that have the backwheels that steer as well. It makes them alot more manuverable(sp). My car absolutely hates to not kick into anti-lock brake mode. I've learned to brake by shifting in the snow, it's actually safer even because its perfectly even distrobution of drag, where as the brakes it might not be (although it is suppose to).

Once it comes in they are going to call me and ask me to bring the car in so they can match the paint and then of course paint the body kit and install. :)

You also need to realize that most rims won't fit most cars. Those rims won't fit your car unless you have gotten new tires, the original equipment tires are 7 to 8in rim width on that and those rims only come in 8.5+. This will cause odd tire wear, poor tire life, and possibly even structural damage to both the tire and wheel.

I said I liked the wheels wasn't sure I was going to get them.. :p
But I'm getting both rims and tires and I'm looking for possibly some 16-18 inch rims.. I found a lot of 18" rims but nothing really too appealing and I think 18" rims might be a litte to big?

It all depends, it looks like it has semi large disc brakes. You need to consider offset and even spoke design on that. American Racing is infamous for not considering either and if you buy their wheels you'll most likely have to go with hub centric spacers, which I am no fan of.
It does look like 18s would wit, but with the requirement of ZR17 tires you might have a problem matching the two up. What I would do is buy the stock rims off a different sports car that are the same size as what you have now.

The mods I have on it increase the hp by over 200 and the 0-60 is definitly under 3 considering the 0-60 can be accomplished while still in 1st gear. The only thing an enzo has on me is the top speed. Mine is about 200mph and the ezno has about 220mph. I still have more hp per liter. Depends on what kind of car you like. I would even like the looks of the enzo better. Mine is a rally car, looks come second to aerodynamics that keep it on the road when it is sideways. An enzo has the aero that keeps it on the road only when it is going forward. Try and turn an enzo at 100mph and you'll flip. Try and turn an evo and you'll burn out and go into an axis spin.

Rally racing is high speeds and sharp turns. Enzos are designed to go straight at high speeds and stay on the ground.
Ignition
02-04-2007, 11:03 PM
Pffffft. Enzos are supposed to and do, go fast over curvy race courses. Your car does not have that kind of down pressure do to aerodynamics, not saying it doesn't have any... but the Enzo is more or less a fancy wedge. It doesn't get much more down forcey then that. I'm wiling to wager that it has much much more stability at high speeds on a paved raceway. Sure rally is high speed, very high speed for the terrain, but they do more sliding and drifting then they do cornering.

Enzos definitely will flip a lot faster than I will. The very point is that I can drift and they almost can't at those speeds.

You would rather have a car that looks like it is from the 30th century?
Anyway, 650hp? That's a joke. I had expected a limited edition Ferrari to be MUCH higher than that. I can get that for $35k. A top speed of 218mph? Seriously, I'm not seeing much that I can't get for $35k. What I did see is alot that I don't want. It reduces shift kick back? That's plain dumb. It has a paddle shift gearbox. Well after having it up on the lift and taking the entire front passenger side wheel completely apart brakes and all (that's where the sound sounded like it was coming from). He didn't really find anything and now it's decided that it no longer want to make this noise. Although when I got back from the shop my car still smelled of burnt clutch... I hope it's not completely blown and rubs because of normal driving as well :\

If your clutch was completely blown, it wouldn't move. You would literally be able to sit still and just move the shifter in and out of every gear without a single grind. Burnt clutch is a normal smell. If you drive like a grandmother, you wouldn't smell it, but in most other situations you should be smelling some clutch.
Ignition

Yeah, I know I haven't blown it but I'm sure it's slipping randomly now. Just driving to school (normal driving) the clutch doesn't seem to grab as soon/well as it used to. After arriving I can still smell clutch, and that's even if I drive like a grandma.

What you must have done originally is called a launch. A racing clutch only has 50 or so launches before it is complete garbage. Basically, you have about a month at the most before it goes completely.

dirka dirka
03-30-2007, 03:03 PM
It would be easy to roast tires on the dyno. That car is gonna blow if he keeps abusing it like that. Don't get me wrong, they are made for that, but you don't go all out on a dyno.
Ignition
03-30-2007, 05:45 PM
They aren’t free spinning cylinders, they have resistance so that the engine doesn’t blow. So if he gives`er enough of coarse he can squeal a little on the dyno. But that still isn’t completely easy, it clearly cant be a stalk.
dirka dirka
03-30-2007, 05:57 PM
I don't know what dyno you've been on, but a dyno is supposed to absorb any power created by the engine while still providing a torque back force so it represents a load. If it burns out, you can't even get an accurate reading.
Ignition
03-30-2007, 06:11 PM
I know that, that's just what I said. I was saying they weren't free spinning and that they have resistance. I was trying to say that yes they simulate the weight of the car.
and it's common since that pealing out on it will give a very pour reading.

The dealer is going to try and put them (with the low pro tires) on another car in an attempt to seal a deal. I told him I have dibs on them if the deal falls though, so I'm holding my breath until Monday some time when he finds out if this other guy is going to by the car with my rims. if not I'm more then sure I'll be getting them, and damn do they look good.

Kyle:
I was scheduled to take my car in on the 23rd for a body job any ways, because after all it is a 10 year old car and it shows (rush, chip from the highway etc..) so I have to get this single dent appraised so he can cover that portion, and the head light which is almost more bother then it's worth.
hell, if he wasn't such a swell guy I'd make him pay for my hole body job. but seeing as it's going to be close to 2000$ I don't think I'll stick it on the pour guy

Kyle:
I'd take pictures but if he sees me taking them he would probably feel even worse

go take them now, its dark out
Kyle:
yeah, I'm in my PJs and I live in Atlantic Canada. it's midnight and it's been raining all day it's probably 10 below freezing.

Do you have a personal CD, MP3, or even just an old school walk-men? If you do you can get an FM transmitter, it does the same thing as the cassette converter, but instead it just generates it's own FM frequency for your cars radio to pick up.
Not a car note, but Sergiy just picked up a 2006 CBR 600 F4i... Besides, everyone knows bikes > cars in terms of enjoyment.
Better acceleration, and better on gas too!

Damn, I didn't even think of those. I knew there was one for an iPod, but for some reason I never thought that they might be made for other stuff too. No way I'm dishing out $200 on a cd player that's not even for my own car now. :)

Been riding three years now and I've only dumped the bike at about 5mph due to me completely being a jackass and not paying attention while turning. If you're not an idiot, you'll live and have no injuries. No Injuries > "Two broken ribs, concussion, broken leg in 4 spots, broken arm."
The bike I'm riding around to/from work during these nice days is actually an '06 R1.

Nice! I know some one who has one of those, and his girlfriend got him a camera mount for the gas tank. yeah he's pretty much asking to die with some of the stuff he does on that thing.

Pffft. I'll stick with my petal bike. Back in the day before they filled in the old dirt quarry we had some good dirt ramps, berms, woopdi doos, and other dirt track racing components for BMX, Dirt Jump, and Sprint.
I went off the 3rd table top into the side by side time trial track with a friend and my wheel cought a rock on the lip and I landed with my front wheel almost side ways. I think by now you can Imagen how many flips I did before coming to a stop on my head I was wearing a helmet though.

Not getting into an accident is a different story. The fact that when you get into an accident, the danger is a hundred times worse is the story.

These are all my "before" photos. As some of you may know I recently got a body, and full paint job done. When It stops raining and I get to wash and wax it I'll get all my "after" photos.
I would also like to point out that old Hondas and some mini vans head lights fade, fog, and yellow over time. I had that problem and tried to polish that out, Then when Dave smashed one with his spare tire. Now I have two brand spkaning new head lights, along with new ultra bright lights.
The two below are pictures of the damage caused by my land lord backing into my car with his brand new jeep.

Haha, I feel so funny driving around in this. Especially now that I'll be blasting death metal in it... (got an FM transmitter :D).

I think the only part that is really appealing to me is the 0-60, and the fact that it wont let go of the road. He was doing something like 80 around a turn with one wheel in the air and it still held on. For that, and that reason alone I will consider an Evo.
Could you fill me in with some statistics of slightly older models? will a 3-4 year old Lancer Turbo still be able to pull that off?
"one finger power sliding!" -at this point I was cracking up.

Help! Looking for a car to get me to college!
Looking at the local papers for a decent car to buy that isn't overpriced at the dealer's. Found two that I'm particularly interested in, but I'm not sure which one to buy!
The first car is a 1997 Nissan Altima, in good condition and with automatic everything (or so the ad says). Priced at $3200.
The second is a 1992 Cadillac (doesn't specify on whether it's a Seville or Brougham model), ad says almost nothing about the car actually, except that it's been kept in good condition. Priced at $3500.
Now, the prospective buyer in me is saying the 1997 Nissan Altima is a decent car model, gets good mileage and runs quite well, all at a fairly cheap price. The child in me, however, wants to cruise around in a freakin' Cadillac!
Which car would be better? I'm not that big on autos and I don't really NEED anything too flashy, but it's a Cadillac! Come on!
Should I do what's right or what's expedient here? Should I even get a car at all (I don't need one for a few more months anyway)?
Edit: I'm seeing some cheaper models in the papers here too, but nothing particularly good... I'll edit with anything else I find.

Go for the import. Domestic tend not to hold them selfs together as well after the 10 year mark. I would personally not buy a car under $4,000 simply because they tend to be more expensive for the better condition they are in (but where as I'm Canadian the price may be close).
I would actually recommend you look at a Toyota or Honda before the Catty because the large lugsury(sp) domestics tend to make selling points of weight and horse power. Neither of which is good on a students monthly gas bill.
That's why I'm even going to recommend a 2 door before a 4 door, simply because if you don't need the extra weight then don't get it.
When looking at a new vehicle I would recommend you look for rust, that's going to be your biggest problem when looking to resale. If it's already started simply maintaining the vehicle will not stop it from further damaging it, unless large amounts of time or money are spent repairing it. Timing belts are one other thing that tend to go after every 100,000Km. Be sure to confirm that the undercoating is still adiquit for the next winter, some of these sleazy car guys brining out the cars with no undercoating in the summer months. Finlay in imports you want to check to see if the catalytic converter is still good or getting bad, which tends to happen around the 10 year 200,000Km mark any ways.
One of the best selling points your going to be looking for is the age to millage ratio on older vehicles. That and the amount of visible rust.

So a friend of my fathers came over in his 20 year old Porcha to take a ride in my fathers brand new s2000. Kinda funny I thought. Any ways it's sitting parked out front so I decided to take some photos of it, it's not a very nice day out so the lighting is kinda gloomy. If any one is interested I can post them here.
