P.S. This is not an attempt to advocate any sort of religion or particular philosophy, so just answer honestly. There are no tricks or no "dodgy" questions.

Don't mind him, zander is just going through his overly cynical/bitter phase.

I don't recall him being like that. It's okay though. Though he added some healthy cynicism at the end, he filled it out, and that's good enough.

I'm considering the rating 3 to be more neutral than anything else.
I believe anything is possible, but I need evidence before I can believe it.

bax, hush. i am in no way in a bad mood.
dove- i didn't mean like sunday school, there are philosphy classes given at some churches, larger ones, to college students.there's a religious philosophy class about 20 miles from where i live
edit:wizzy- you yourself told me you're not religious, you just ignorantly believe in a higher power...that's not an insult, that's how you're supposed to use the word. so you can't tell people they can't have opinions when your own aren't based on anything solid..

What the hell are you talking about? I said I don't go to church, and I dont read the bible regularly, that doesn't mean I havn't read it. My mom, brother, and his girlfriend are really religious, and it interests me. So I started to read the bible, and go to chruch a few times.

I'll add some commentary food for thought if anyone's interested after a couple of the questions
1. There is one god over all 1
2. God invented and made the universe 1
3. God created the world and exists beyond but also acts in the world 1
4. I do not belong to myself, I am created for god's purposes 1
5. There is no god that exists beyond the universe 4
6. The universe is all there is, and it is self-sustaining 4
The universe isn't necessarily self-sustaining, even if it is all there is. If eventually heat death takes everything down to base radiation, can you really say the universe has been sustained? Perhaps the existence of anything is just a blip in time, a freak accident
7. There is no supernatural 5
8. No deity will save us; we must save ourselves 5
9. God and the universe are one 2
10. There are ultimately many realities 3
This ties into the many worlds quantum theory... if the universe is indeed a probability space, it means that every possible action has occured, but not where we can see it happening
11. Man is divine because he is part of god 1
12. God is a life force that has both a good side and a bad side 1
13. God depends on the world and the world depends on god 1
14. God is always "in-process" 1
15. God is not all-powerful and therefore he cannot get rid of evil 3
I voted 3 because I don't think there is a god, and therefore must conclude he isn't all-powerful. This is a bad question, because it assumes existence of god to be answered (in the form it's to be interpreted). However, even if god wasn't all powerful, that wouldn't preclude his ability to get rid of evil; nor would god being all powerful grant him the ability to get rid of evil, since it can indeed be interpreted as a perception
16. There is a god who is the "mind" of all things but he is limited in his nature and power 1
17. There is a god who created and rules all things but he is not all-powerful 1
18. God created the world and exists beyond but is not in the world 1
19. The Bible is a great code of morals, but it is not a supernatural revelation of the true god who exists beyond 3
Again, I vote 3 here because neither option works. I neither think it's a supernatural revelation, nor do I see it as a great code of morals. Sure, rules against murder and theft are nice, but does that make the bible a great set of morals? It's nearly 2000 years old (the old testament even older!), and certainly doesn't apply to today.
20. God is to the world what a master mechanic is to his machine 1
21. There are many gods in the universe who influence the world 1
22. Each of many gods rules his own natural phenomena 1
23. We do not have any responsibility before the gods; they function in their capacities no matter what influence it has on us 1
24. God is actually three gods: the "Father", the "Son", and the "Holy Spirit" 1
25. Many gods of various forms vie for our allegiance 1
26. Why don't you worship Jeffery as a god? Because I'm not retarded
EDIT: I realized I answered one of them wrong

18. God created the world and exists beyond but is not in the world 219. The Bible is a great code of morals, but it is not a supernatural revelation of the true god who exists beyond This seems like two questions. 1 to the first part, because I don't think the Bile is a good code of morals at all, and 2 to the second one, for the same reason I put two on almost everything here. More on that at the end.

Well, I disagreed with, I think, everything here. I cannot beleive anything without having evidence to justify it. Please, whatever you do, don't call me an Aetheist. Aetheists are just as dogmatic as any other religous people--in fact, I would call Aetheism a religion, but I don't want to get into that.
I accept the possibility that there may be one God, many gods, an all-powerful God, a weak God, a trinity, or what have you. However I don't understand why people would choose to beleive these things. Beleif implies that you have absolutely no doubt about its truth. I could say I beleive precious few things.

12. God is a life force that has both a good side and a bad side 1
13. God depends on the world and the world depends on god 1... God don't depend on no world.
14. God is always "in-process" ... (This is a little confusing... if you mean that He is always working or busy, then the answer to that is 5)
15. God is not all-powerful and therefore he cannot get rid of evil 1
16. There is a god who is the "mind" of all things but he is limited in his nature and power 1
17. There is a god who created and rules all things but he is not all-powerful 1
18. God created the world and exists beyond but is not in the world 5
19. The Bible is a great code of morals, but it is not a supernatural revelation of the true god who exists beyond 1
20. God is to the world what a master mechanic is to his machine 5
21. There are many gods in the universe who influence the world 1
22. Each of many gods rules his own natural phenomena 1
23. We do not have any responsibility before the gods; they function in their capacities no matter what influence it has on us
24. God is actually three gods: the "Father", the "Son", and the "Holy Spirit" 5
25. Many gods of various forms vie for our allegiance 1
So... Yes all my beliefs are essentially leading towards Deism. I believe there is one God with three forms, and that He created the world. I take the Bible literally and believe it to be true. Except for Kyir's number 26, which i give a "5" ;)

boogieman, that's not Deism. Deism assumes an impersonal god, who really doesn't care much about what you do on earth.

If you ignore the supermajority of people base their morals around their religious beliefs, you're right, there's no way this has anything to do with philosophy.

Philosophy isn't concerned with popular opinion.
Nor do all moral systems fall under the category of philosophy.
Philosophy and theology are distinct areas of study, and they do not overlap all that much.

1. There is one god over all - 5
2. God invented and made the universe - 5
3. God created the world and exists beyond but also acts in the world - 5
4. I do not belong to myself, I am created for god's purposes - 3
--This is 2 different questions. I believe we are all created for a purpose, but I do not believe that we are bound by that purpose. We have free will to fulfill our purpose.
5. There is no god that exists beyond the universe - 1
6. The universe is all there is, and it is self-sustaining - 1
7. There is no supernatural - 1
8. No deity will save us; we must save ourselves - 1
9. God and the universe are one - 1

Does this mean physically?

While I do believe in the trinity, I do not believe that each is a god in and of itself. I view that trinity as types of influence that God enacts upon the world.
25. Many gods of various forms vie for our allegiance - 1
Some may be confused by my answer here, so I will explain. Obviously, some will claim that Satan is a god in a "various form", and that may be true. But he does NOT vie for the allegiance of the world. He hates God and hates his creation and wishes it all destroyed. Satan doesnt desire your allegiance, he wants you dead and seperated from God.

In having mixed feelings, you ask questions. You weight negatives against positives. You compare in your mind and end in a result. Also known as questioning.

It is simple, wizzy.
"I have some mixed feelings about the existance of god. :/"
"Kreator, you're twelve. You can't have mixed feelings about something you don't know about."
Yes. Yes you can. I have mixed feelings about the war in iraq, but I know very little about it. I have mixed feelings about you, and I know almost nothing of you. It is simple. You can have mixed feelings about something you don't know about. That is my point. Now shh. Half the point of growing up is getting mixed feelings.

This is a survey I was given for my philosophy course. Knowing that TAO is a melting pot of philosophies and ideologies, I thought I'd get a good, broad sampling by presenting it here.
There are 25 statements. For each statement select a number 1-5 where 1 means you Strongly DISagree and 5 means you Strongly Agree. Please fill out completely... that'd be great.
P.S. This is not an attempt to advocate any sort of religion or particular philosophy, so just answer honestly. There are no tricks or no "dodgy" questions.

2. God invented and made the universe
3. God created the world and exists beyond but also acts in the world

To sumerize my views: I don't know if theres a god, don't really give a damn either. If god came to me, I would feel somewhat comforted in the fact there is an afterlife, but not change the way I live.

Philosophy and theology are distinct areas of study, and they do not overlap all that much.
Yet philosophy is inextricably tied to the ideas behind theology, specifically whether there are absolute morals, a creator of the universe, etc. Perhaps dove's professor finds the overlap to be a fun niche subject to study.
The thing I disliked most about the survey was that a lot of questions were repeats.

The repeats are there on purpose. They are done to make sure the person os honestly taking the test, as oppose to just filling out random answers.

Not "inextricably" tied, philosophy can be entirely extricated from theology. Still, could be an interesting thing to talk/think about in a philosophy class.
