Well I think im gonna hold a chess tournament. This will determine your actual skill level in a strategy game with no luck involved, so whining about luck wont help this time. It will be a simple knock out tourney with 16 participants. Two sites you can play at are nabiscoworld.com and yahoo.com. Please check to see if you can play at these sites before you sign up. If there is another site that works for you please say what it is when you sign up.
Prize - Gold account for 1 month
This tourney will start January 3rd 2007.

Not much point to organize a chess tourney in TAO community.
And what's wrong about complaining about luck? It gives the loser some hope to win next time.

Change it to correspondence games, like 1 move per day, via email or pm. I'd probably consider it more then... just because I like the game. =D
Though, as Bobcat points out, not sure why you're organizing one over TAO...

Don't be dumb! Luck just gets the person hyped up for the game and its kinda off the TAO community and at a different site whats the point of holding it

sign me up tugster. i swear i have 0 tao luck... i have insane games where guys get five blocks when they had less than 40 percent of hitting , like i said no luck at all which makes it impossible to win which is why im pissed off/depressed that i always lose at this game
oh man pun, i better make sure i dont move my queene to the randomly selected square of doom, cause besides if that happens we might have a game where luck doesnt matter(although last time luck didnt matter u beat me on terms of pwnzmenship....but this time i got pawn-geez)

Let me know what comes of this, Tugnus.

This being the anniversary of when i started TAO (2 years and I am still a noob) I decided to check the forums. To my disbelief I found something worth replying too (zomgzorzzz). I guess I will try my luck at playing chess verses someone on TAO. Hope this gets off the ground and we actually do something tournament wise. But regardless if any wants to play sometime give me a PM. (on TAO or at chess)

So how will we play?
Tugnus
12-26-2006, 05:15 AM
Well im gonna match everyone up in a normal knock out tourny. Then you play the person your assigned to play on a chess multiplayer website. Then the winner of the game will move onto the next round.

To whom was that directed, to me asking about time controls? Or to Vyse.Networks babbling his nonsense? If it was for me, I don't see you mentioning time controls anywhere.

OK, I guess you missed my point, or I am completely missing what you are saying. I did not ask how much time is the first round going to take. I expected an answer such as:
1 hour 30 seconds increment for each side
(or)
30 minutes 15 seconds increment for each side
(or)
5 minutes 0 seconds increment for each side
(or)
[put your time controls here]
Do you get me now? Or am I not getting you?

Ohhhh. I gotcha. Well, the two sites i named do not have time limits. If there is a site that does have time limits and you want to play with limits, ask your opponent. If they say no though then play without them.

Yahoo does have time limits. Nabiscoworld doesn't.
I'm sorry Tugnus, but I will not sign up if there is at least some kind of time control. I hope the tournament goes well. But I could see some people wanting to play blitz games, some people wanting to play rapid games, and some games lasting forever (what stops you for making a move and going to sleep? :) ). Any official tournament in the chess world has some kind of time control in it, even if it is 3 hours for each player.
I do liked the idea of the tournament and I commend you for giving your time to organize it. Can't wait to see how it will turn out.

We can play 15 mins + 0 seconds too.
I'd like to play either that or 5 minutes + 0 seconds. I am used to both.

Ive thought over what El Cid had said. Ok all games will be played in Yahoo.com. If Yahoo does not work, find another site with time limits. The Initial Time will be 15 minutes with Time Increments set at 15 seconds. Go to Yahoo.com, register for free, click on games, click on chess, then play now. You and your opponent agree on a room that you want to play in. Then make a table and have fun.

As for yahoo, you need to have a yahoo email (if you haven't, you can sign up). For Yahoo Chess they currently have a Java version (old one) and a Flash version (new one). You should not have problems with the Flash version, and if you did, then you would not be able to play TAO either.
