View Full Version : Sludge Golem

Name: Clay Golem
description: an ancient creature, akin to the mud golem, but too lumbersome to chase down opponents like its cousin, so it slows down its enemies instead.
Class: golem fighter
HP:60
Power:20 (blockable)
range: 4 (LOS applies)
Armor: 0/60
Blocking:none
Recovery: 3
Movement:2
Special:
If hit by attack (whether or not the damage part is blocked), the target's movement range is reduced by 1 for his next 2 turns and, if there is any recovery already on the target, one recovery turn is added. If the target has no recovery, it has an extra recovery turn if it performs an action that normally would require recovery during his next turn. (IE, if a dsm with no recovery is hit, its wait is 2 if it moves and 3 if it attacks, 4 if both next turn. If a knight without recovery is targets, it waits 2 if it attacks next turn)
If it is hit by fire attack (ie, dsm, pyro, or dragon), the damage is halved and it is "paralyzed" for the next 3 turns, but with 60 instead of 0 armor.
Tactics: The idea is a slow but powerful unit that's good support... useful at slowing down advances/retreats... but cannot work without help (no blocking or armor, too slow to retreat).
Yep, I'm bored:D
EDIT: I decided to change the name because given the properties clay makes more sense.

I'm bored too. do you see that as sufficient reasoning for posting this? of course not. i didn't read your unit by the way. i'm just saying, the fact that you're bored in no way makes your post more understandable, no matter what.

I don't think it is the best of the best but I have to give you credit, it is better than most things I ever came up with :). Also, isn't boredom everyones excuse :p?

Nope. There are other ways of entertaining ones self. Seriously. Thats what the whole General Discussion is for. Not creating a bad unit. And say I went and killed a man. Can I use boredom as my excuse? Sure, but it will land me in prison for a few decades.

This is too much like the GA for my liking. And all those minor specials really rub me the wrong way.

Can you elaborate?
It's a ranged, blockable golem that ignores LOS with 3 wait and 2 movement. The only differences are that it sacrifices 1 range for close-combat ability and the minor specials. The minor specials are far too detailed for the little they do - it would be better to just take them out, and maybe replace the first thing with something simpler (a pure 1-turn stun would be more sensible, but we wouldn't want to copy the berserker). The flame special singles out units, which drives me nuts. I would have voted against having the wisp immune to the mudquake.

It doesn't ignore LOS... a lot of things are blockable and ranged with 3 wait. 3 movement would make this too strong.

You think the special effects are minor? It's a two turn movement decrease that effectly protects it. If the movement decrease wasn't there, any unit it attacks with 3 movement - knights, would be able to walk up to it and hit it. The -1 movment makes all the difference in battle, preventing it from becoming a weaksauce unit to kill.
The +1 recovery is what makes it worth it's salt. Without it, there really is no reason to use this over say a knight for muddy in a turtle form.
The flame special is unnecessary, but makes common sense... clay hardens upon contact with heat. If wisp were not immune to mudquakes, it would be a HORRIBLE unit, easy to kill and hard to use. As is, it's pretty weak. The flame thing is the only thing that makes it usable as an agressive unit as it has a place in bombs and rushes that utilize dragons. Without it, we'd have a unit that's solely defensive and useless as an attacker - the opposite of busher.
