Name: Fencer
HP: 35
Armor: 8
Power: 22
Range: one tile in any direction (including diagonally)
Block: 88%/44%
Movement: 5
Wait: 2

Description: One of the humans most proficient melee units. The are far more agile than the average knight. Not only can they move farther and hit just as hard, but should they block a melee attack, they use the enemies momentary weakness to their advantage, unleashing a counter-attack. However, because they lack a shield and armour, they are much more fragile should an attack pierce their defenses, and they fall quickly to magic.

Passive Ability: Counter-Attack

- Whenever the Fencer blocks a melee attack, he will counter-attack that unit for 1/2 of his power in damage, which is unblockable.

================================================== ==================
PROS/CONS
================================================== ==================

PROS:

- high block percentage
- good movement and high power
- ability to counter attack melee units
- able to attack diagonally as well.

CONS:

- fragile, with low armour and hp
- cannot counter-attack magic and ranged attacks
- needs to get up close and personal to deliver attacks, but puts himself at risk in doing so.

================================================== ==================

Essentially the fencer is a variation of the knight. More agile and powerful with a good passive ability, but more fragile with less defense and hp.

NOTES:
- he can only counter-attack when he BLOCKS a melee attack.
- Counter-attack hits the attacking unit for 1/2 of his power, and is unblockable
- cannot counter ranged attacks and magic.

Thoughts?

Will he counterattack a blocked scout shot from range 1? How about a BR shot from range 2?
I think this unit is balanced. It's pretty good; it Reminds me of the assassin more than anything else.

If he gets shot from a ranger within one tile of him and he blocks, he will counter attack, since its essentially a melee ranged attack. No to the second one though.

i love this kind of unit.looks like you have some skills of making them.He pretty much a knight on a horse cause it does sound like it but ill give it a 9 of 10(do not comment on that)

Decent unit.

Congradulations on it. Also, please make all your lettering one color.

way too high blocking, but other than that, i thinks its very good

Made all my lettering just plain white.

Also, his blocking is only 8% higher than a knight from the front, and 4% greater from the sides. The concept is he is exceptional against physical attacks, especially melee ones. But if you hit him with magic or from behind, he falls fast.

Thanks for the comments guys :)

And yeah, I have a knack for creating things.

EDIT: Whoops, weird double post... I think it was because of caching that I didn't see any replies. Sort of.

I do like it. but he is too strong, id raise his health and lower his attack.

Tweaked it up a bit, raised health to 35, but lowered his attack to that of a knight. I dont want to overdo anything, taking it in small steps.

the fencer hasso much power and its pretty much knight with more skills.I like it!

thanks :)

But its not exactly stronger on all counts, it has its own set of weaknesses. It will never be able to replace a knight, because knights are vital to a lineup, they tank so well, and dish out good damage.

Very nice Melee Unit...
It introduces the interesting concept of using Magic or Range VS using Melee attacks rather well; users would need to balance their arsenal of magic and melee if this was implemented. Good job!
Pretty balanced as well.

lol, If a attack is missed would it say parry? (Fencing humor...)

I think his movement should be changed to 5 in a straight line because Fencing is played in small straight froward box. (Just to make him seem like a Fencer..)

Other then that it good.

(Also... how does a Fencer do that much damage with a foil? =D [More Fencing humor...])

The parry idea is pretty neat. Up to the devs though.

and this fencer upgraded his foil to a real sword, most likely a rapier. And since they are good at getting through opponents guard and armour to strike weak spots, when they hit, it hurts :)

A lone knight won't be able to catch him with movement 5 in a straight line. How about movement 4 diagonal with range 2 LOS? That would add another dimension to using him. You might want to allow two on the field in that case. A knight would be able to catch him that way, I think.

He would, and the the two range would be a "thrust" in Fencing... Yea.. I know to much about it...

I think it would be a better idea instead to reduce his wait time to one, and reduce his movement to 4 tiles. A 2 wait for a unit like this is a big disadvantage, a knight could easily circle behind and attack from the rear, where the fencer has no chance of guarding. To make up for that ill lower his movement to that of a knight.

It should balance them out a bit better. As for his range and attack pattern, im not sure I want to change it. I dont want to mess around with this unit too much, I might end up making it worse than it is now rather than better.

Bumping this guy, as he is a rather good unit
