Should names be a kickable offense?
My name on Army is Cyber Me!!!, teio, or xerent here on the forums, booted me on sight. I was not asking for cyber games, nor was i even talking in the lobby. Now, i understand some names should be kickable, such as OFFENSIVE names, such as racial slurs.
Is it right for mods to make assumptions on names and to boot on sight?
EDIT: THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT MY PERSONAL SITUATION.

So your cyber me.....
I see that names do normaly work with what they are there to do....
However... if you do not ask to cyber.... then well you should not be kicked...
So no, names should not be a kickable offense.

I think it should be a judgment call.

If your name violates the TOS, you'll be booted for it. Cybering is offensive and violates said agreement when you play the game.
It's akin to any other offensive or disruptive name.

It's impossible to draw the line though. What some find offensive others may find humorous.
Would you kick someone with the name:
Cex
Cexalot
Hugh Janus
BigGuy
Class '69
Who gets to decided, is it just a judgment call by the mod? Should he still kick on sight, or ask a few questions?

How is my name offensive or disruptive? I do not cyber, and when asked to cyber, i say no. If anything, i help the mods catch cyberers.
And to bax, i agree that teio should have asked me a few questions or investigated before kicking me, or at the very least, have asked me to switch to another name

Agreed, that's why WE don't draw the line, the mods do.
They decide what is offensive and allowed, what violates the TOS, and what doesn't.
It's actually really silly of Maverik to even ask if it's a kickable offense if 2 mods have already booted him for it. Obviously the name was a bad idea, and he should have simply dropped it.
Teio behaved exactly as she had a right to. See a problem, boot it. Bam, problem solved. That you don't like the way it was handled is personal, so handle it personally.
The mods decision is absolute, and no number of TAO players disagreement with it will change that.
edit: note, I don't find anything offensive, whatsoever ;) So don't try to pin it as my personal opinion on the topic. I'm merely spelling out reality and answering the original question. Yes, it was a bootable offense and why it was.
Voose Lagina. I find that name very humerous.

Liz booted me cuz i asked her to cyber as a joke, i thought she knew who i was, and would get the joke, but i was mistaken, as she did not know who i was

It was silly of you. ESPECIALLY after the numerous times I told you that I *almost* kicked you for it. The reason I didn't kick you for it is because I found out early on that you were only using it as a joke. But you were warned, you can't claim you didn't realize the implications.
So no, it wasn't the best reason for him to kick you, but you weren't being too smart yourself.
Overall, I'd say it's perfectly acceptable for a mod to kick offensive names, and I feel any action made by a leader (Despite megabyte's notions) should be questioned if needed.

So you're a liar.
You based your claims on the arguement that you never cyber, and everybody knows it, but you admit that you asked a mod to cyber.
You have absolutely no credibility.
Also, you don't need to ask to cyber.
Your name suggests you do, and is an invitation to ask.
So a violation of unacceptable chat occurs in your name.
The mods are perfectly justified in kicking you.
And they have no reason to warn you, you know exactly what you did.

guys, don't get pissed off at the mods. Is Having a name with sexual suggestions really important enough to make a thread about it? like mega byte said, if you are in violation of any of the rules they have the full right to kick you. If people know they will get kicked It's thier problem if they're dumb enough to actually violate the rules. rules are rules and if you can't follow them then don't play the game any more.

You had it coming. You knew when you made that name that it was borderline inappropriate, and you took the risk.
I'm just thankful HK asked me to get on a different account before kicking me while playing on voose lagina.

Not my notions, just a statement of reality based on the complete history of the TAO community's reactions to Mod actions. Popular and/or public opinion (much less public displaying of Mod's responses/policy) has not swayed the policies, nor has it ever resulted in a loss of a mod. I suppose you can say that Mod questions HAVE been questioned, but no action or change has ever resulted of said questioning.
I reserve my opinions for a well founded discussion and topic ;) not someone making a silly thread over an obvious question.
