Thus, we see that the bottom is actually better. Not only denser and wetter, it is littered with yummy goodies, and encased in a handy wrapper.

Therefore:

Bottom > Top.

Alright... if you don't believe me, maybe you'll believe wikipedia.

The marketing trend toward larger muffins also resulted in new muffin pan types for home-baking, not only for increased size. Since the area ratio of muffin top to muffin bottom changed considerably when the traditional small round exploded into a giant mushroom, consumers became more aware of the difference between the soft texture of tops, allowed to rise unfettered, and rougher, tougher bottoms, restricted by the pans. There was a brief foray into pans which could produce "all-top" muffins, i.e., extremely shallow, large-diameter cups. However, the reality of muffin physics prevented the fad from getting very far.

Despite the extreme bias of this article (ie, saying muffin tops are better :rolleyes:), I think we can all conlude one thing from the bolded area of that text: THE MUFFIN CANNOT SURVIVE WITHOUT THE BOTTOM!

We see, however, small cakes and such which ar basically muffins without the tops. They survive fine. The top is only a luxury, and I admit, some of the crumb toppings (WHILE HORRIDLY MESSY!) can be quite tasty, the essence of the muffin lies in the region within the wrapper.

Bottoms: Resiliant, strong pastries.
Tops: Crumby luxuries unnecesarry for a true muffineer.

In the case of mini muffins which can be eaten in two bites, one top one bottom, it is always better to eat the bottom first. You unwrap the muffin, hold it by the top and bite off the whole bottom. You then eat the top. This is why i can eat a whole plastic thingy of mini muffins. Chocolate muffins however, start with the top. That's where all the chips are. Thats the place to start.

So in conclusion, which part of the muffin to eat is case sensitive.

Ok, this has been a hot topic for weeks at my school.

The grade was divided in two. The top-lovers and the bottom-lovers, with the occasional wanderers trying in vain to bridge the two sides under a common understanding of all muffin segments. It didn't work. The groups drifted further and further apart, sitting next to their own kind at lunch, trading fritos with bottom-lover-Lev instead of top-sucking-noob-Noah. It was resulting in chaos.

Everyone's grades were failing, with so much time and effort poured into plans to sabotage the others' stashes of muffin tops/bottoms depending on your side. Some felt the immense pressure of the operation and broke. Just.. broke down.

It wasn't pretty.

It reached its climax today. A top-lover shoved a bottom-lover on his way to math. Let's just say, that top-lover didn't learn logarithms, but was acquainted with quite a different log in the boy's bathroom.

Finally the school intervened. Sat us down. We really talked it out, and reached this conclusion:

A muffin divided against itself cannot stand a symbol of muffiny goodness!

So, TAO community, if it was good for an upper-middle-class Jewish school in Newton Massachusetts, safest city in the world, is it good enough for us? Can we too embrace this standard and end this madness!?
