The forums are not "crashed" at night. The hosting company is simply performing a huge backup everynight at ~1am EST that makes it run VERY VERY slowly.

The other random crashes are annoying, but can be expected considering where TAO hosts at. The Planet has a HORRIBLE history when it comes to supporting SQL databases, and the entire SQL service often crashes making the forums unusable.

indeed..i was tryin' to go thru the forums but it kept on freezin' up..so after like 20 tries..i was all like..ahh.."FORGET DIS!! >.<"

They choose to remain with a substandard hosting company.

Obviously there is a reason to the crashes, as Jeff stated. The forums probably run as fast as possible at all times, and the lag cannot be prevented. You are suggesting somethng I believe is out of the site's reach. All website's have to have time to catch up on everything, or add updates, sometime. During these times, it either slows down, or becomes periodically unavailable to the public.
