Just in case anyone is wondering what the player rankings for Great Lakes should look like. I just did the top 50 (22) people.

You can see the actual rank of the people as compared to their practical rank (in red.)

I just statted everyone in the top 50, and if their stats were the same as the latest rankings, I deleted their name. Of course I don't pretend to accuse everyone deleted as just sitting on their stats, or being retired yet trying to whore yourself on the rankings. I'm not accusing anyone of anything. I'm sure there are many people who I excluded that have lost games and re-earned the exact same stats. I didn't know, so I excluded them. I'm sure some are just on vacation for the week and haven't had the chance to play. Totally understandable. If I had older Player Rankings, I would have used them to see who hasn't changed stats in a longer time, but that is not the case.

I just thought it was interesting to see that more than half the top 50 players on GL don't change stats every week. People ranked 24th can actually be in the top 10. It's pretty obvious who the real "retired" people are, but it's a bit less obvious that there are this many.

It's less obvious because an account has to go without being logged in for 3 months before it becomes "inactive".

Hell, mine's only up there because I logged in last month before the grey wipes to make sure it wouldn't be deleted. :)

I should start playing on LT soon though... I figured I'd just play on a secondary account for a little "warm-up" period before resuming my turtling challenge, but... Now it just seems whorish...

This should be done across the board, not just for GL. Implementing a system like Legends where players have to play a game where stats are exchanged. This would mean a change in stats, not just playing a 750 grey once a week to stay on the rankings...

I did play on CG. Then I stopped for like a week. Cause I went on a "bad luck" streak and stopped at like 1627-40 Don't really remember. Then It dropped to like 1500 when I wasnt even playing on it. Now I just have Marth on GL which I rarely use...

Personally, can't say I'm in favor of this modified "ranking" system. In fact, I'm opposed to really any attempt to rank players based on stats. For a long time, Dragoen Link was at the top of GL. Yet to get there, he played the same 20 golds which he was 100% sure he could beat. Did this make him the "best" player, even when he was active? Or did the fact that he lost 4 out of 5 in clan games against me make him probably a less skilled player?

As far as a comeback is concerned, many things are ready to go. Let's say kegsworth has been "supervising" me as I have been getting much better at both grey and gold. I feel I'm easily in 1600 gold skill now, and better than I ever was at the grey game (which isn't saying much). The main issue with a return is the lack of a cause. Since my falling out with AK, I'm really not sure where I want to be. meh, anyway, peace

your stats refect activity and skill... he may not have been as good as you, but he played more non clan games than you did, which more than makes up for it. there aren't that many good golds that played during that era to begin with...

Good points, but on one fundamental I respectfully disagree. If a player makes 1800 player literally playing the same 15 gold players which he knows he can beat, his stats are artificially high. Basically, I'm saying that stats are reflective of two things: a player's skill, and the player's selection of games. A 1750 who agrees to play anyone is in my book a much more talented player than the 1820 who got there player 15 golds with 1250ish stats.

I'll go as far as saying that game selection is the primary factor to one's stats. A gold who has the skill to beat 1280ish golds 100% of the time in my book is probably about a 1450ish skill player. Yet clearly by only playing these types, you could get yourself well into the 1800's

Usually whenever I go on GL, the turtlers want to play the freestylers in turtle and the freestylers want to play the turtlers in free.

Seems like the turtlers tend to think that their style of play is "better" and that the freestylers should play them in turtle instead of them playing the freestylers in free. That is just what I have observed.

I've been secretly praying for a stat reset for so long.. Stat's being inflated aren't really news, I don't consider most 1450+ players to be good, or at least not 1450 good.

Or two new servers. One new server would just be flooded immediately. Two would make it last longer :cool:

Anyway, guys: Emphasis on last three months... I'm not getting on once a week to keep my account on the rankings, hell, I'm barely getting on once per wipe... The same can be said of many other players--seeing their names both on the charts and inactive isn't entirely surprising.

The selection of games and the stats gained from them balance each other out. The 1800 player who plays only 1200 opponents has to play over twice as much games as the 1700 player who faces 1400 opponents, and thus has a much higher activity level.

A a reaches 1800 by playing 1300 nubs, he is an 1800 player. Whether or not he's a better player than another is entirely opinion.
