After playing this game for two weeks, and being gold for a week and a half, this is my conclusion about Arena Tactics.
It's a fun game, probably the best online, multiplayer strategic game I've tried in years. This game does kick ass!
However, being gold sucks. Paying isn't worth it. Why?
1. Greys Drop games all the time. Finding a good match is extremely difficult. 90% of my time is spent starting a game, and then having the other person surrender or drop, and then starting another game... for the next person to drop!
2. If you find a good match, the other person will try to cheat / be extremely annoying if they are going to lose (push F5, start doing time outs, etc)
3. Very few golds are ever online, and not many of them are a challenge.
4. These servers seem to be overrun with 10 year olds. Their half-assed attempts at insults is ridiculous, and really just takes alot of fun out of the game. Not to mention all of the whining they do when they see a gold unit.
So, paying $5 a month to play imbecilic, rude infants who drop after 3 rounds of playing isn't fun, and sure is not a good bargain.
Who cares if you get big, buff characters if nobody wants to play you anymore.
Whats the big deal about keeping extra units when everybody just drops after five minutes of playing.
Whee, a huge win ratio means nothing when the greater majority of wins are totally meaningless.
What would make it better?
A dedicated GOLD server, all gold accounts are on it.
Public servers have no gold players. This way everybody is equal, skill is the biggest factor.
So, I'll be dropping my subscription and not playing after my month is up.
Fnord!
