Perhaps you should spread this around to the "loyal" members you currently have instead of making a blanket offer to all TAO forumers.

However you want to view it is up to you. This is strictly marketing and PR. We will add other sponsorship programs down the road. For example, if a player sends a business lead to IEA for website and/or email services the player will recieve a sponsored gold for the entire time referred organization/individual remains customer of IEA. Sweet deal. Like I said, it's business. We scratch your back, you scratch ours.

Here is the business equation, don't think about it from a players point of view or you will never get it. Try to think about it from a business point of view.
Equation: We support TAO, we sponsor TAO players. In return we recieve brand awareness and hopefully a few customers down the road. It's that simple.

Passwords will be given to sponsored players. The 5th sponsored account will be reserved for the top dog. (i.e. Magician). Sponsored players do not need to convert their existing acocunts to Team USA, only play under the Team USA account assigned to them. Simple deal.

Alright, well then speaking from a business point of view, I can see why you need all the help you can get.
To be honest with you, I have never heard of a company called teamusa, however, depending on the product may explain why.

Ok, disregard the above post of mine, Dape has forced me to wake up and pull my head out of my rear.
I haven't heard of the company Internet Engineering Association, LLC either, but that is more understandable.
Good luck with your new program.

inetassoc is a small-midsized hosting company specializing in business site design/hosting/emailhosting.
Not a bad track record overall, but not for the average webpage maker either.
Part of the reason I think their goal for adverts here are so misguided is because the average user of TAO is not their target audience for clients. A company usually sponsors a "ream" in a sport or event that is highly active with their target demographic. And last time I checked TAO players are not made up of many small-to medium sized businesses looking for complete webhosting options.
They'd be betetr off (and spend less money) upgrading their account in WHT and keeping the offers their open more often.

We look forward to working with TAO.
Jeffrey, some may feel that we are wasting money on "misguided" efforts. We have been doing what we do for near 15 years. Allow me to further explain as I sense you are opposed.
We will be doing a press release about sponsoring "digital athletes". This is the digital age. We are an Internet company. Everything fits.
TAO will serve as a model for future sponsorship projects. We may actually end up sponsoring other top players in various popular games. We truly believe that a digital Olympics is not far down the road. We are positioning ourselves to be able to take advantage of it.

Even in media campaigns, marketing companies still target their specific audience pf customers, or at least potential customers.
And quite simply, your type of customer is, for the most part, not interested in games like TAO. TAO is simply not a wide-spread enough phenomenon that is is known to the majority of people, even if they do not play.
Take WoW for example. Even if the business man does not play, or know someone who plays, they have still at least HEARD of it. And as such, a marketing campaign containing it might still hold interest for them long enough to get them interested in your product. (because, in the end, it IS about getting people to look at your product line)
Now, I am not saying you don;t have a good product. Actually, I am saying much the opposite. The product you are trying to sell is simply over-quality and over-priced for the audience you will reach.
Also, since you seem to know very little about TAO and it's community, the very aspect of what you are trying to put together is also something that VERY quickly can grow to be bad advertisements. It takes simply one of your "paid" athletes being deleted for boosting or spamming to undo any good image built by your group.
I agree with what you say about there being Digital Olympics. But what i am pointing out to you is that they will not contain a small-game such as TAO, that is so under-developed and non-maintained.Maybe using TAO as your first testbed might work, to get the kinks out of the system. But in the end it will simply be money spent on research, and nothing gained to get you into the forefront of the Digital Athletics.
The biggest problem you have here is lack of proper insight. Before taking this step, you really need to have at least ONE person on board who has been waround TAO for a somewhat lengthy period of time, who knows the ins and outs of the game.
This would go for Wow, or any other game too.

02-05-2007, 04:47 PM
Why are you back to using the pils account? What's wrong with Mod-Team U.S.A. now, pils?
When I first saw this, I thought; "hey, free gold account. cool."
Then there was the denying of identities. Then there was the sponsorship of Dape. Then there was the usage of new forum accounts, as if to show that you were dedicated to this "Team U.S.A." and meant to show it. Then there was the cowardly arguements in the lobby.
You are whoring yourselves out to the first benefactor that came your way, plain and simple. Why would you want multiple gold accounts, anyways? What could possibly be the point? The only reason I could see in this situation is to show that you are a part of Team U.S.A., and that shows loyalty to it, as if it were an actual clan. It is not. Or, it could show that you're proud of being a member of this team assembled by somebody completely ignorant to what skill is in TAO, and being proud of that isn't much better. I think, had the sponsorships been given to random talented greys on the server, this could've been much less of a negative ordeal. As it is, not one single member that I'm aware of is receiving anything but disrespect from, well, anyone with respect, for participating in this. That alone should be a small bit of a hint.
Snork
02-05-2007, 05:00 PM
Zander, calm down.
This is a cool idea.
And entertaining. :)
This is something we've never seen here before, that I'm aware of.
The least we can do is be positive towards it, and see where it leads before we poop on it.
When something new comes along, try it, see what it can create.
TAO is constantly evolving and changing.
If we don't take every opportunity to explore new concepts, we're cheating ourselves out of experiences.
Just relax, and let the good times roll.
And complain later if you still feel the need. :)

I cant find my post so ill say it again...
I dont see their motive.
THey are paying 5 dollars times 2 years (24 months) = 120 dollars PER ACCOUNT.
Either they are wasting money, or they have another motive that they arent telling us. I see why zander is skeptical, and i think i should be too.
Teacher
02-05-2007, 06:48 PM
It is completely reasonable to be skeptical but think about it. What is the worst that can happen? You play on a gold account that you do not have to pay for and it gets taken away?
Snork is right, I was bad mouthing it at the beginning of this thread and decided to see what was really going on or at least get a better understanding. I have been speaking (via email) with the person running this little campaign and he sounds sincere, he allowed me to join as a grey just to get an idea of what is going on. To be honest, not much. The golds that have been chosen take a bunch of crap from other golds in the lobby and for the most part they try to laugh it off.
To be honest, as far as I am concerned any of the golds that sit in the lobby and intentionally start crap with these guys are acting jealous and warrant very little acknoledgment.
As for Dape being a member, (if I understood that right) this guy decided he wanted to build a team based off stats. As we all know, this is not the best idea as stats mean nothing, once you add in the ability to cheat. However, he is ignorant in the ways of TAO and deserves our support rather than our constant complaining or accusations.
If for some reason this company feels that it is necessary to spend $600.00 for a marketing campaign and some people get some "Free" upgraded fun, then so be it.

Theyre an internet company, and are interested in online gaming. They think theyre will be a digital olympics, where people compete in their chosen game and get medals and such. Theyre trying to snag the good gamers from some active games so that when this digital olympics does happen, their name will be right there with some of the best gamers. Theyre also trying to get us to find them business in exchange for a gold account. I like what theyre doing, its an outside the box approach to making money and advertising. I wish I wasnt working so much, as Im sure I could get 1200 as a grey. I will look at your business site some time, Im going around town and applying for jobs, and Ill mention your name if theyre looking for internet sites or whatever. A sponsored gold has been removed from Team USA. As a result, we have an opening. Applicants must be skilled greys or FORMER gold account holders. If you have an existing gold account please do not apply. Sorry, but we already have enough sponsored golds who already have other gold accounts which they use.
To apply simply email clan@inetassociation.com
A short list of approved applicants will be reviewed by the team. The team will select 3 from the list, I will make the final decision.
Could I please be pmed the current list of the golds and the players using them? Just wondering who you guys have, as I haven't been paying much attention to TAO lately.
