"Account" is not a bad word. Fix the filter, please.

To whichever god controls the "swear filter" I would just like to point out a little annoying bit of it.

I remember when the word "assassin" would get you booted. So I know it is possible to prevent booting people for typing long words that contain a "swear" in them.

I frequently play with anyone who challenges me. Which means I get a lot of new players, and the first question they ask me is "How do you get a DRAGON!?" In response to this, my usual response is: I am a Gold Account.

However, every once in awhile, I mistype words. And for some reason, today was the third time I've mistyped the word Account without an O. (accunt)

It's annoying for me to lose 30+ stat points each time this happens, because it is usually a low player who is asking the question. But i'm not a huge fan of stats anyway. What really irks me is that I'm in the process of teaching a new player the game, and explaining what a gold account is or how to upgrade... and what is involved... and I'm booted from the game, most likely to never see them again very easily.

So, in closing... could we fix it so that a commonly used word for players of this game (account) is not tied so closely to a possible server boot just by forgetting a single letter? Just put the common typo on the "approved list" for my own personal sanity please?

So I fish for golds? No... I set myself on a table, usually on floor 9, and anyone who wants to can challenge me. Golds or greys. I do not "jump greys" as I think that is quite un-ethical. And it's easier to sit on a table for a game, and let people join me (as everyone knows where I play). Seeing as Grey's can't challenge... it wouldn't be fair if I only played people who could send me an "official challenge".

And if you think I'm a fisher, talk to Lucifer!!, Detonation, Crip for Life, or any of the other golds I play daily. Or, just ask Snork who posted above....

However, I'd rather you not threadjack this. I'd like to keep it on topic.

I type quickly. I was just trying to point somthing out that might have annoyed other players, and has a relatively easy fix. Had I known the forums had degraded to the point where such a simple thing as a recommended improvement to the game would cause so much dissent within 4 minutes of posting... well, I know it's been awhile since I posted here frequently but I didn't know the close family that this board used to be had completely disintegrated.

And yes Megabyte, I know what swear word the filter is seeing.... :bigsmile: I was just merely commenting that I didn't think it should see that word with the other stuff around it, and being a semi-common mistype. Kind of like how assassin used to boot you because it has "ass" in it.

I'm not a huge fan of the filter anyway, since anyone who wants to swear at me just types "g@y" or "f u" etc. But I think the filter should lean towards being forgiving to users, as opposed to being too harsh. especially since it is so easy to circumvent for people wh want to swear. Seems to me it more commonly boots people who accidentally misstype something, or who angrily respond to people who press their buttons with "leet speak swears" trying to get them to forfeit through the filter.

The filtered words should just show up as ####. Then they don't have to worry about fixing any possible typos. And after that maybe fix the shit filter. Things like "Finish it" "wish it" etc... its very common and realy annoying. "ok this games over, my muddies going to ####", no, not my muddies going to shit, my muddies going to finish it.

The filter does suck sometimes, and maybe it could use a little tweaking. Typing "accunt" or "finish it" has happened to me too many times to count, and it's just embarassing when half the lobby goes "OOOOH! She said a bad word!" :o

There is no need to remove either of the filters. Simply take all thw words from the boot filter and add them to the blank-out filter.

Then the words still are unavailable, but no booting occurs.

This is probably the easiest and best solution. (Aside from TAO's favorite solution of not doing anything.)

"Ass" is part of the actual way to spell "Assassin;" it's not like it's spelled "essessin" and people keep typoing it as "assassin."
