Reset the Rep.

But anyway, why not reset it?

It's gotten to the point that a newb can get a handful of reps and be totally green or totally red.
So... reset it. Give everyone 10 rep points. And better yet... do it every year.
That way there is no incentive to be a rep whore.

(of course, this would destroy the whole reputation system... but it that a bad thing?)

No offence, but we legenders think FPS' rep system is messed up, because there wouldn't be a point if everyone can just get to immortal in one day. And also reputation is supposed to be how much people respect you, and in here there's no difference between people anymore, a great poster and a bad poster can have the same rep. So my suggestion is make it harder to get a rep power and a rep box.

p.s. But this isn't an issue, rep is worthless anyways... :p

I find this to be a very good idea, although it has been suggested many many times. I remember the times when Warcow and theburning had their rep race. When theburning got her 4th box and every went wow. I actually remember a feeling I had for the forums back then.

Not really. :) Early 2005 was when it was hard to get boxes and when it was actually hard to have more than 1 box. I remember how I got my 2nd green box thanks to savannas 8 points. :cool:

In my opinion, rep isn't that big of a deal. It's sort of like one big popularity contest. If people don't like you, they neg. If people like you, the pos you. I think what's important is how you play the game, not how popular you are. Also, people judge other people on their rep. Sometimes though, a person could be really nice and be -10000, and could just be getting negged for no reason. Also often, people don't pay attention to you if you have low rep. They just say something like "go away, noob". Too many people obsess over rep. This is why i don't agree with it.
As for the idea, it's not bad. It prevents rep whores.

right on Sam. what these fps forums need to do is wipe the rep system then implement a new formula for getting rep. on legends it actually means something and isn't based of whether or not someone has 1 friend. right now i believe the most powerful rep someone has is 8 or 9, that took years to attain and i believe that is the reason legends is not in such chaos. anyway, that is just my 2 cents. take it as it is.

That's actually a complete fabrication. In the terms of use, it states quite clearly the reward for your donation. That arguement has already been used by quite a few legenders who didn't know what they were talking about in the "is legends doomed thread."

Paypal will and has refunded many people's money because of this.

For the record, I actually think Legends will probably go on at least for another 5 months, although I am not an avid fan of some of your forum moderators. As far as the situation goes now, I think we're actually in agreement. People can make a "donation," and if they request it from paypal, can get their money back. Probably the most responsible thing for Seed to do would disable the donations until the upgrade system is in place. However, we can easily see how someone would not bother to contact paypal out of ignorance or lack of perserverence, and Seed walks away without providing any service at all.

Actually, if I understand correctly, he has gone pro in the gaming industry and it isn't that he doesn't have time but that he is making enough cash as it is. He isn't obligated to TAO at all and in fact doesn't make a dime off FPS.

I think perhaps you have a little more optimism for Seed's involvement in TAO, perhaps rightly so. I perceive his current neglect as a very bad sign of things to come, and don't know if things will be fixed (or stay that way)

As far as the moderators go, I actually like the fact that you get rid of ones who are inactive, and think the same should be done over here. My qualm is that I feel your mods are way too partisan and clan oriented. The number of threads closed borders on absurd. As far as personal issues with specific moderators, I'm not very active over there, so the only ones that exist are 1-2 old ones from FPS.

Trying to get more boxes was the coolest thing ever as a new poster. There'll always be rep whores and there'll always be flamers in the red, but the typical rep process is just way cooler to give it up now that everyone goes to 11 boxes by week 2. I say reset it, and let the post counts start us up until we're back to a normal community in terms of rep.

If this does go for another five years... The guys with the highest rep are probably going to have well over 5 million, negging for 25,000 and posing for 50,000. Maybe it will be even more. This is because we are already out of the starting gate, posing has a greater effect than negging, and the rep power of each person will increase by larger and larger amounts with each pos. Soon each active forums will have either 11 green boxes of 11 red boxes, nothing in between. That is because the medium in between will be such a slim interval between the rep power people will have. I at least think something should change about this, but I doubt they will get rid of reputation entirely.

A "simple" solution to the number of boxes problem would be to simply change the worth of each box: 10k for a dark green and 20k for a light green. Yeah, that's how high our "reputation" is. I'm fairly confident that most of the top 15-20 by rep have at least 100k. I'm sitting on just over 120k. =/

Psh, just because it agrees with yours! I think that either rep should stay the same, or the rep of each person should be squared rooted after every 2-3 years. Negative reputations would be zero (imaginary numbers won't make sense... purple boxes maybe), and people should be able to neg for as much as they pos for. There's another reaons why rep has been inflated so much.

Nonetheless, we can just face the inevitable and leave it as it is, eh?
