Ok, so I checked this game out last night, and even though I got my ass handed to me, it was alot of fun. Well, I started a game on here, kind of panicked when I realized I had no idea what I was doing, then disconnected. Then I played a game on Legends and got my butt kicked.

Now, speaking of Legends, I was just reading a few messages here about the whole FPS/Legends thing. Do most people here just play for fun and not pay attention to all the drama, or are most people here obsessed with clans, ratings, "us vs. them" crap, and all that?

Because this is something I think I could really get into, but if it's just a bunch of kids playing internet God, then I'd rather find something else to do with my time.

Well, there are stupid very iritating kids here. And on legends to. They just hate each other for no real reason. There are also more sensible people that have fun in the game. Like I did a time back. I quit now and am now at the forums mostly. But if you need any help with TAO just send me a PM and I can teach you some things. And welcome. :)

Most people play here for fun. There are a lot of kids that play this game, but there are a lot of really good people here as well. Try out some of the other servers and try to get to know who plays on what server. After that check out the Clans that are there. Doing this will help get a better idea of TAO as a whole and hopefully make this a fun experience for you.

I play on Banff, so look me up anytime if im online.

Thanks for the welcomes, and making me feel like there are people here that atually want to have fun. I'd love to play anyone that is willing to teach me strategies and stuff, or just for fun to see what I can figure out on my own.

Seeya in the game!

Alot of drama goes on here. You tend to get sucked up into it eventually, and its fun.

So... welcome! :)

If you need help playing TAO, read the following:

TAO IN 15 SECONDS!
Don't do what people tell you. It never goes well.
In the upper right corner of the game, those boxes are actually buttons.
Hit the SETTINGS button to customize your formation.
Armageddon is the server for REAL guys.
TAO is fun.
Only go Gold if you have become a TAO fanatic.... or unless you want chat in the lobby alot.

Because he found the forum already? Because he realizes that he doesn't know anything?

Well, I played roughly 10 games or so last night, and I pretty much lost them all, minus a few where my opponent disconnected, and I couldn't tell whether they thought I was close to beating them or if they legitimately got dropped. Probably just the latter. I was experimenting with formations, but I haven't made one that I'm totally satisfied with yet. I always seem to get raped no matter HOW I have them set up. Is there a good, safe setup with the default pieces? I've read about turtles and this and that, but I wanted to try myself before using a "formula".

Anyway, I really love this game and I will probably get gold when I have the money to spend on gaming again. I'm well on my way to being addicted. :D

IMO, grey games are WAY funner then gold.

There are many, many, many types of formations out there.
THe strategy area is a good start, as well as trying to play high ranking greys and seeing what they have.

The key is, however, to find out what kind of player are you. Do you attack alot? Defend alot? Attack and defend? Defend, then attack? Use mages? Melee units (like knights)? Do you use wards?
If you had a choice, what would you rather have: a second cleric, or a second dark magic witch?
What wards, if any, do you use?

Heh. I hope your eyes didn't glaze over :wink2:
But yeah, your formation will depend on YOU.
I personally use a rather flexible corner formation. It is mostly keyed to defend, but I can attack if I have too.

I'm going for a formation that is balanced for attack and defense. I hate turtling in any game. I'd like to be able to withstand a rush, but also to lash out effectively when I need to (or have an opening to). And I have been reading up some on strategy. Like using the barrier ward along with the chanty. I like that idea. And I read some on Scout LOS. Good stuff. :D

Oh, and how do you get more units as a grey? I read something about random drops on the site, but how does that work?

P.S. Anyone else out there have Xbox Live and think this would make a perfect game on there?

Barrier/chanty combo is one of the most powerful combos of any game. I use it all the time, and it just owns.

It looks like you'd like a corner formation. Hmm... I'll upload my grey form to give you an idea.
It has gone under several revisions since I created it.

It is pretty stable, but there are a few holes in it :wink2:

A good question to find out is where to put your barrier ward.
To far up and it is exposed, to far back and it is useless if you are attacking.
Find a spot that works for you.
Also, find a good area for your chanty. You generally need an area where she is protected, yet can still be used without harming your units.

5 times a day a drop happens. If your in a battle while it happens and you win the drop will apear at your settings in the off field. Though every month the accs here are wiped so you lose your drops every month.

Gold accounts aren't wiped though, are they?
