hey guys... i know it's been a while since i've been here. i've been thinking about some pretty heavy things, and i'm just out trying to get the opinions of as many different people from as many different walks of life as possible.
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog&pop=1&ping=1&indicate=1 (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=29243918&blogID=242942867&MyToken=b5ca04ee-411b-4527-883a-db6accb6b3ab)
here is a link to a blog that i wrote. please, read it and send me a message or something letting me know what you think. I'd prefer not having comment after comment on either my blog or my home-page... if you want, send me the message, or you can just comment here in this thread. i want to hear what you, as a community, have to say. Also, feel free to read my other blogs and reply in the same manner.
If they don't come here regularly, could someone get the old-timers of TAO to come check this out? people like london jack, glam, elentari, Omega Paladin (if you can find him), Warcow, and others that i cant think of... but want to hear from.
Thank you for everything guys...
**edit** fixed the link so you will be directed to my blog every time.

I understand. I could type for days about this, it took me 3 hours to explain this to my roommate the other night, and he still didn't get it. It's amazing that every word you typed, I know (or at least think I know) exactly what you mean. It's refreshing to see someone else who thinks the way I do. Thank you. I don't really have the time right now, but this seems like something we could really discuss, share our personal experiences about. And I can't really prove to you that I'm on the same page without delving deep into this.
Looks like something I read about in a psychology book... No, it was perfectly normal. Actually, it was a problem practically everyone has. Your secret probably has no value in an impersonal sense, but telling it benefits both the speaker and the listener.
Or, I could easily be way off base. This could easily be New Age or something very basic that our society suppresses.
The Internet is immensely freeing for me because what I can't say I can still type.

This is intense... really makes you think. Thank you.

Your inherent flaw is thinking you aren't as selfish as you are not. Everything you do is driven by a motive sincere to you. If it is as simple as making people happy, you're doing it for you. You're also flawed in thinking you have any control over anything but yourself. You claim you can only not control free will, but that isn't true. In fact, I'd dare to say that controlling free will is easier than controlling everything else.

I got bored halfway through that while you were pulling philosophy out of your ass to explain why you were single. :p
So I skipped to the end.
The truth is: We aren't alone. There are always people to turn to. Different people for different sorts of things that you need to lean on them for.
So, look for those people.

and i agree. as a student of economics, i realize that humanity as a whole is incentive driven. but, if you read my blog about integrity, you will understand that i do what i do not to get that warm-fuzzy feeling inside. i do it because i honestly want good for my family, friends, and others i still have yet to meet.
and the free will thing... compare humans and animals. animals don't have free will and can ultimately be trained. but there are strong, stubborn animals who want to do what they want to do and don't listen. same thing can be said of humans. those with a weak mind, or will, can be controlled easily. i dont want this control because i don't want them to mis-interpret something i say. i want them to form concepts and judgements on their own, just like i have, that way they don't look to me for answers. they answer them on their own. i just want to give them the tool to find those answers.

haha, well it wasn't exactly pulled out of my ass... and i wasn't trying to say that this is why i'm single. and i know there are others out there who know how to use logic. it's one of the reasons i came here. this is an incredibly logical game. i figured this, of all places, might have the people that i'm looking for, including you and dirka.

nice blog post. Green, ive got comments in a few categories for you:
There are very few universal truths to be found. In fact one universal truth that IS to be found is that there is no one right way to live. Some people are alone. Some people are not. Some people cannot be alone.
"freewill" is a loaded term, so I don't use it. Instead please define for me what you mean by it?
comparing "humans and animals" is a cultural mistake. Believing that humans are separate from the rest of life on Earth is one of our oldest and most damaging cultural mistakes.
If you haven't, I recommend reading The Fountainhead. The philosophies and theories in there are flawed, BUT for a certain type of person there is something of great value. Based on the very little ive seen, Im going to guess you are such a person. You are not alone, you are complete. And it is possible to be complete and not alone at the same time.

Quite honestly, when reading your post/blog, I see this as a cry for help. If so, you should probably look elsewhere than the TAO community, as our aid is by default, limited. As far as being alone, its a battle that I feel all people go through, particularly those who don't believe in a higher power. My recommendation: find a religious, a girlfriend, and a therapist.

This might be why you have such a hard time understanding the motives. If you look at other people, you can access the opportunity cost of their situation and essentially dive into their being. When you're the one carrying out the actions that you're trying to understand, you can't see things such as your trade-offs or opportunity cost because that isn't the way you think of it. You're more humane than business, so you see your actions as creating meaning and not just mathematical factors that can be computed and resolved. I'm not sure this will help you in the field of economics, being that you think of people as people and not clients who might make you money or such other money motivated labor. You're an existentialist, to put it lightly, one who has a kind of karma associated with his actions.

I agree. I just think it is easier to make people think certain things than it is to do anything physical. Words can do a lot more damage than my actions ever could.

i know someone said it already, but, you do do things to feel good. the only difference between you and a murderer is that thx to sciety murder makes you feel bad and helping people makes you feel good. people do nothing that doesnt produce a good feeling. it just might be delayed.

it's not society... it's moral law. look it up.
and again, the reasons why i do kind things isnt for self gratification. it is for the gratification of others. i know the issue you, along with the other guy who said this, are trying to bring up. and i've grappled with it myself. i truly do things to make others happy.
and yeah, maybe being an existentialist isn't the best mindset for an economist, but it's who i am and what i love. hopefully, with my unique outlook, i'll come up with some major breakthrough. call me steve levitt! haha
