You can tell if someone uses a proxy by attempting to connect to their IP on common proxy ports, or even all the ports, and figuring out which protocol responds. It isn't solid, but it is 99.9999999999% correct.

It's funny, last night I was forced to watch Boston Legal (maybe night before?) and the lawyer of a murder trial, who knew his client was guilty, told the jury that he had the real killer. That she would walk through the door at the back of the courtroom. As he anounced for the "real killer" to enter, every single person in the courtroom turned to face the door. No one entered.

His point, was that even *looking* at the door, was reasonable doubt, and that reasonable doubt was enough to prevent the jury from finding his client guilty.

The reason this logic doesn't quite work, is that misdirection is easy to accomplish. Inacting a response from someone on instinct doesn't mean logically they believe it. His client was guilty - they had a mountain of evidence - everyone knew it. Yet every jury member looked anyway.

I simply entertained the idea by responding to that account, but my point still stands.
