Hey all you X Box Live n00bs! If ya want you could post your Gamer Tags here =) I don't have on yet, unfortunately.

I will probably be getting one this weekend though (spring break n00bs!). If ya want you can also post what games you play on live :) I gots me Halo 2 and Gears of War, which I must admit....I suck at that game. I could barley beat the game on Hardcore >_>

I don't know what that link is supposed to show us, zander, but I'm not seeing anything.
And I don't understand this obsession you have with telling people that their threads are pointless because they already exist, especially when it's not true.
You said the same thing to me in my last thread, even though a search proved you wrong. You also admitted to doing a search that came up empty before posting, but decided to go ahead and say that someone had already created a thread about it anyway.
Kind of like you're doing now, by telling Abyssion that there's been "so freaking many" threads dedicated to his topic and then posting a link to nothing.
Maybe there have been a lot of threads on this topic. I don't know. But you should at least try to offer some evidence if you're going to try to bring down a thread.

I'm calling you on your b.s, zander. I'm not doing any search because it doesn't matter to me. That's my point. Abyssion did a search before creating this thread and found nothing, and he said that in his post.

I'd also advise watching the language in here. It's your choice, but I've seen people get banned for less than what you just called me.

Language restrictions aren't something i break often on here, I don't need to be warned about them.

I "did" do the search myself.I made the mistake of posting a link to a specific search that i myself performed and that no one else may acess, or even myself after a little while. If he did indeed search for a thread, he is incredibly incompetent, because a search for the simplest part of the subject of this thread gave me 24 results. 24, I checked that specifically earlier. My search did not come up empty "like my search with your last thread."

Telling two people that their threads weren't exactly necessary, one in a completely unserious manner, doesn't exactly qualify as an obsession in my eyes.

Both of you clearly have personal crap to sort out, which easily allows for instant overreaction, even if slightly. So, I'd advice both of you to just drop it, as arguing more will not produce a clear "winner" (zander for not posting the proof immediately and calling someone on it, hugh for seeming biased due to previous similar encounters with zander and evidence being available). That leaves you two only with arguing about arguing (who started it, the tone, the manner, the bs, etc). So, you're both right in your own way, and you're both frustrated, but if you both continue, it's just gonna get ugly. Hugs for both, please dont respond to each other again in this thread.

Even searching for "Gamer Tags" has a hit on a thread asking for xbox gamertags. It is not enough to put in a single term you think is mildly associated with the topic, not finding a thread with the name you had in mind, and making it yourself. Didn't you stop to ask yourself:
"gamer tag for what!? "
"maybe i should specify which system and search for xbox live?"
"don't some people see it as one word, gamertag?" (this yields most of the threads I listed previously)

It is not enough to run one bad search - that doesn't "get you off the hook" cuz you claimed you ran a search. While people get flamed for "not searching", the real reason they are getting flamed is for not finding what's there. That's your responsibility.

Zander, I don't think you won. Nobody wins. Sure, everyone has the right to make a thread if you feel like it, but when so many exist on the same topic, it grows pointless, and all you're going to accomplish is destroying your own reputation.

The fact that Abyssion claimed to search for this topic already lowers my opinion of him. Because, as uniq pointed out, it's quite a simple process to search for related topics by using common, broad terms. Any thread involving XBox should naturally fall under the XBox category, not "Gamer Tags". Even a search for "gamer tag" (without the "s", this is called broadening your search options) reveals an XBox 360 thread.

The real point of this argument, imho, is that anyone with half a brain can find a related thread on almost any topic in this forum. If your first search doesn't reveal anything, perhaps you should try different terms, or try broader terms (i.e. - removing plurals, quotes, etc.). With even a little bit of effort (and a tiny bit of intuition) you can find what you're looking for.

Why not just create another thread? Because spreading out information on a topic makes that info harder to find when someone else searches, which makes it more likely that they will create a new thread and further confuse the situation. It's not just about forum clutter (who really cares how many threads get made?). It's about ease of access for those who come after you, and the idea that redundancy is just stupid. It's just easier for everyone if you group ideas together.
