View Full Version : Issue on Disconnects

Alright, well recently I have been disconnecting quiet a bit here lately and I have a suggestion. I don't know if anyone has ever played any games over in Yahoo such as Dominos or Checkers, but over there if you disconnect you have set time to come back to the game after disconnecting. I think it is like 5 minutes or something like that and if the person doesn't come back the person that is still in the game has an option to force the opponent that has disconnected to forfiet and they will still recieve the points as if they have just defeated the opponent or simply just take the game as a draw and niether play loses or recieves anything for the match. To make this imply on Tactics it would have basically the concept the opponent has a set time to come back to the game and if they do not return in the time frame the Player that is left in the game has the option of recieving the win which they will gain stats and the opponent that d/c'd will lose theres or they can accept it as a draw, but they could recieve a few stats or lose a few(Which I doubt few will take the option unless it was obvious they were going to lose). Well thats all I have I figured I would get that off my chest because I know it happens to a lot of people especially here lately GL has been lagging pretty bad. If anyone has any thoughts and suggestions please state them. Thanks.

One word:
NO CODER
This takes coding ability. TAO has no coder. Seed once attempted a fix to this issue. which cut down on it some, but was what started "ghosting" of accounts.

FB has agreat idea here. But I suppose Jeffery's right. And Mag, they do happen but this is a way to make them less "severe" so we don't have to deal with it so much. No one wants to deal with it.

I just got disconnected 3 times in about 10 minutes. What does it matter if we complain though, they do not listen. There has got to be some way to fix it...

I JUST got disconnected in a game against someone with much higher stats than me (Cause I haven't played much since the wipe) I was winning, and BAM! It would be great if I could rejoin the game...

It'd have to be much shorter than 5 minutes, or people would probably start using it to cheat. Disconnecting themselves and making people wait.

5 minutes = 250% of turn length, and will be abused. i'd say rest of turn, that's it, if anything
I just got disconnected 3 times in about 10 minutes. What does it matter if we complain though, they do not listen. There has got to be some way to fix it...It's not that we don't listen  it's that even listening, as jeffery said, there is no one who can do anything about it.
Don't blame the staff here - we're all in the same boat as you.
At the end of the day, a solid internet connection is all you really need.

I have a very solid connection. I just got disconnected two more times, losing me nearly 50 stats.

Happened to me twice in a row and dropped me 26 ranks.... :( Oh well. I will just have to climb back up again. I was winning with ease too..

Next time it happens, run a traceroute to the server you're on

Open up a Command Prompt in your Accessories. (or hit "start" "run" then type "cmd" and hit enter.
type "tracert tacticsarena1.uvault.com > C:\trace.txt"
Open the file trace.txt which will be in your c: folder. Copy and paste the results here. (note, blank out first IP if you don;t want to share yours)
Also, if you switch the "1" to 2,3, or 6 you can trace the different servers.

What if you have a Mac? :p
stab yourself.
alternately, let's look at the great mudslinging comercials for the answers...
Let's see, according to apple, a mac...
...can do anything you'd ever need through iLife, cuz no other software is ever needed past making cool pictures
...works perfectly right out of the box, so you'll never need to connect anything to it like, say, printers, a decent mouse, etc.
...is user friendly! As long as you don't need to do anything technical like jeffery mentioned
:p
