Super-Duper-Strict Tournament Round 1: Game 1

It’s here. This is, with a whopping 95 participants (96 when The Fatz0rs get a fourth team member), the biggest tournament in the history of TAO! The previous record holder was X-useme's BST, with 81 participants (closely followed by my own PSST with 80).

Please note that when I say this is the Super-Duper-Strict Tournament, I mean it. No exceptions will be made and DQ’s will be prompt. That, and the innovative built-in substitute, set this tournament apart. Partially, it’s an experiment. If it goes well and results in an enjoyable and active tournament, I hope the same concepts are used in the future to promote better tournaments in general for this game we all love and most of us are hopelessly addicted to.

Now, to make sure no one can complain about their disqualifications, I will make it crystal clear what you must do to avoid being disqualified. And just to make it really easy, here’s a skeleton of the kind of first PMs I want to see. POST EVERYTHING THAT GOES ON IN THIS THREAD. If you made an effort that I can’t see, you will be DQed and it will be your fault.

Sample first PM: Hey such-and-such, we need to play each other for Mith’s tourney. My time zone is such-and-such, here are all the times this week I’m available to play.

Sample second PM: Hey such-and-such. My time zone is such-and-such. Here are the times that work for me.

Between the first few PMs (all of which should be posted in the thread), the opponents ought to have either set a specific date and time for a game, or determined that none of the most convenient times will work, in which case both players must work to try to figure out a time they can play.

My philosophy is that if both players are extremely active and trying to get the game in, they will get the game in and no DQ will be necessary. If the game is not played, I will be forced to disqualify the player Cliché and I deem to have made less effort, or if it’s equal, both players. Post all your PMs, send the first PMs within the first few days (captains, get your players active so on Sunday nights, they can send PMs to each other to schedule their games; if three of your seven days are used up because your guy didn’t show up to schedule a game quickly, he’ll be more likely to be DQed), be active, don’t be difficult and don’t pull crap to try to look more active than you are. I’m not an idiot. If there are any questions about the disqualification rules, ask them promptly. Part of it is common-sensical, but please carefully read this whole first post and follow it. Captains, you are responsible for your teams to make sure they know what all the rules are and to make sure they stay active and try to get their games in.

By the way, I asked meat.eater for a prize and he said typically those are only for mod-run tournaments but he said he would consider it. If you see him online in game, be sure to tell him how awesome this tournament is and how deserving it is of a prize (but please don’t spam his PM box, I might get in trouble if you do that). :D

And of course, thanks to Cliché, my co-director for this tournament, for the help and advice he has already provided.

This round will end PROMPTLY sometime Sunday night, April 22nd. Most rounds will have only one week, this one will have an extra few days because I don’t feel like waiting until Sunday.

We're scheduled to play for game one in the first round of Mithrandir's tournament. I will be available Thursday the 12th from 5 p.m. pacific standard time until 9 p.m. pacific standard time with a possibility of my being able to stay until 10 p.m. pacific standard time for sure, though it's possible that I may be able to get on before 5.
I will also be available on friday the 13th and saturday the 14th, though I'm not positive what the hours will be, however they are likely to be the same as thursday's hours. After that I can't say for certain what days I will be on, though I am usually on daily with non-specific hours, so there may be a chance that we simply wind up online at the same time. Please be on the forums all times that you are on the game so that it's easier to find you. Please send me a private message in response to this as soon as you possibly can with times and dates that you'll be available to play.

Absolutely. Even beyond that, if the two teams that are to be matched up in the second round are both finished before everyone else is, they can send me the starting order and I'll post their next round. You can go at your own pace in this tournament. The only thing slowing you down is your opponents. In theory, two of the finalists could be decided before some of these first games are done, if two of the three draws are much more active than the other one.

Rag got up and rush over with a punch, Fry ducked saying "No so fast honey.."
Rag got mad, doing his fast double punches. Fry blocked and do some footwork encircling his opponent.
Few minutes passed, Rag is already sweating, Fry smiled n said... "Here we go!"
Fry made a fake hook, Rag took the bluff, Fry made a direct Fore-head punch, blood flowed outta Rag's nose. "Watch your nose!", shouted the crowd. This made Rag really mad.
But Rag took the crowd advise... both hands protecting his face and most importantly his nose.
Fry spotted a good chance, landed a few good punches in Rag's chest. This few punches made Rag's hands down and face forward. Fry followed suite with a well coordinated jab, followed by a right hook and turned Rag's nose into a plasted bun, flowing blood like a pipe.
The crowd cheered.
Ding! Ding! The break time bell rang.
Both Rag n Fry went back to their corners.
The next thing we knew, Rag threw a white cloth from his corner towards the referee and fry, say, "Bah Fry, no more, i am done." Rag walked down from the ring.

now press harder, the harder you press, the more pressure you can create to your nose.

imagine u replace the same force instead of a "press", use a full force punch.

I just STUNK it up against Ragnarth...something awful. It didn't help that my units, especially my assassin, were sieves at blocking, but with my play, it wouldn't have mattered.

Possibly. Wolfy is crazy good though. It'll be an extremely important game, because naturally if you clean wolfy out, he'll lose his next game by a lot, making it really hard for Bot to flawless his way to a 10 vs 10 final.

Yeah that first game, in my oppinion, is the most important. If you can win that one, and then get just one or two off the next guy then your next in line won't do to bad *or shouldn't*. Then its like 1.5 people vs the remaining person of the opposing team.

I disagree. If I'd been their captain, I'd have had him lead off too. He just had a bad game. It would have been more devastating to have had just as bad a game if he had been the second player, and obviously completely disastrous if he had been the third player.

You know, the trouble with being on the other side of the world is that when you come back to these forums, 6 pages have magically sprouted up and you've got to read them through. Anyway, looks like The Fallen and I have set up our time to play. Since he hasn't posted his PM's here, I'll just include them in this post to show that he has responded to my PMs and has shown equal effort in setting up our game (just to be fair).


Unfortuantely, Friday at 8:30 is definately not going to work for me, as I am a high school freshman and school starts at 7:20.

I would prefer not to wake up at 8:30 in the morning on my only day to sleep in , however, if tha is the only time that works for you, I guess that's what time we will play . I am av available any times on saturday or anytime after 3:30 on Friday.

If his game isn't finished by the deadline and someone needs to be DQed, it'll be him. If you have an active sub and you're worried about him being able to get his game in, it might be a wise move to sub Override out. It's up to the captain. But make no mistake, on Sunday night, April 22nd, if the game isn't played one or two people will get DQed. There will be no extension. Consider that fact carefully as you decide whether or not to give Override all week long to play.

Wolfy and I can deal with it. We knew Fry was our weakest link at grey, and I suspect they didn't realise the importance of putting your best players later in the order for tag games. And we could hardly drop Fry from RTT. :p

I think we can win this so long as I only have melee units to deal with when I finish what wolfy starts. I'll be confident of victory with 9 or 10 units left against Zadico, whose speciality isn't grey.

It was a good game. The Fallen miscalculated his BW range early on, which cost him his scout early in the game for my witch, but he managed to pull a sassy bomb on me to take out my scout. :cry:
