This was a very close game i hate Centre Setups which is what gig was using i had early advantage taking his DW and then got 2 knights in behind to take his cleric and reduce archer to 15 hp he then took my cleric but i got 2 of his knights so it was 4 of my units versus 2 of his knight,assasin I took some LW damage but eventually got him with some lucky strikes as his units appeared to not want to block gg GIG

Umm, you got like 3 side hit on my knight within 5 turns yet your knights blocked 1/2 of my side hits. No use in complaining. Game is over, just move on =)

Well, I already had the upperhand in that game, so those blocks did not essentially matter. Plus, complaining is a good release for me... as long as I do not flame anyone it should all be good ;).

Blocking was crazy, his knights blocked so much in the beginning, but I started getting good blocks and hits towards the middle and end.

At the end it was my 3 knights/lw/bw/cleric/sassy vs. 2 knights/chanty/bw/lw/cleric.

I lost one knight for nothing, trying to get his chanty. My only hope was a sassy bomb. I set one up easy enough, but bombing his chanty wasn't so easy. After going back and forth with hit and runs, it came down to if he got a side assassin hit, I would lose. If it blocked, I would win. It blocked, I won.

Luck was all over the place, I may have had the lions share at the end, and it is the reason I won at the end.

Description: it came down to his two knights, sassy, bw lw cleric vs my two knights chanty bw cleric lw. i risked the side shot on his sassy, and he blocked, and he was able to blow up my chanty knight and his lw. He got more blocks than i did, but i got some key blocks, so it was sorta even, but in the end, he got the key blocks, which opened up the stalemate, allowing him to win.

Just to recap, TGM says he can play on the name "relentless." At least, that's one of the names he's identified by on the 1st post. Bobcat uses that name as well. Bobcat is trying out for the Legends team.

I have no idea if they're the same person or not. Just making sure we have our bases covered.

Au beats me...I played like butt, and he got some key hits / blocks. Luck was a bit more on his side, but it was really the timing that did it.

Description: I was using my odd center, and Fry was using a side. He attacked my open cleric in exchange for 20 damage on his scout, he Barried it. He killed my knight, while I killed his knight. He then got my witch, while I forced his scout/witch to retreat. Then, I killed his chanty in exchange for me freezing his knight/assasin but loss of a cleric/damaged scout. I forced his scout into a hole, where I got a lucky frontal to bring it down to 2 before he healed. Then, I got his cleric, and he bw'ed his scout, forcing me to let it go. My knights only had 15/32, and my only other attacking unit left was a pyro. He shot at my pyro, but I got a front block. I got his scout, and it was over after that. I could just killed his frozen units then take out his knight at my leisure. I got slightly luckier, but he had also gotten a witch front block earlier on.

Was a good game, a lot of it was spent shuffling around, trying to outmaneuver the other person. 1/3 through, my -7 knight blocked a front shot that would have killed it. I wouldn't say that was really lucky (73% chance to block) but it helped. Then we started chasing each other's scouts around. I was able to pursue his into his backfield, and he had to freeze his cleric and assassin to stop my knight...so I brought another one up, and instead of BWing his scout, Elemental trusted that the +50-ish scout would block from the side. It did not. I think it was about a 45% chance to hit, give or take. After that, the game was mine. He set up his assassin bomb, but I was able to move around to avoid it, and with some nifty chanty work, I wound up winning with 8 units left. That total's very misleading though, because it was very close throughout, and if his scout had blocked, we'd probably still be going.

But the mod couldn't tell me his IP... So I am having him PM Meat.Eater (mostly because meat is the most active super mod I see these days, and I don't want it to be a long, hassle type thing...)

Anywho, I talked to Bobcat on Legends and he told me that Speed Demon gave him access to Relentless (but he is not the one using it for our tourney). He also said Jax'D has access to Relentless and you can see where this thought is going.

The Gold Master (TGM) is a mate of mine from Aberdeen. As far as I'm aware, him and Bobcat are in no way linked. I'll be happy to eat those words if I'm proved otherwise, but I think you're chasing loose ends.

Oddly perhaps, Hoolwath, TianChao has beaten me twice in 5 or 6 turt games, whereas TGM only has one win against me out of about 20-30+ games. Bobcat can most definitely turtle, though its not his preferred style of play.

Frylock, we're not talking about old-school Leigh here. :p Nice win AU, btw. :) I might just have to stick my neck into this tourny if it's a) not too late; and b) if I can remember how to grey. >.<

Well can I just say instead of debating who I am or who I am not did it never occur to anyone to actually ask me instead of going through mods and checking IP`s as most of you know im an honest and decent guy emphasis on the GUY part as I am Leigh a 28 year old male from Scotland who plays using The Gold Master Account on GL and REV and I also have a sponsored gold on GL called RELENTLESS and a grey on ARMY and BANFF called RELENTLESS I am not bobcat nor am i TIAN CHAO and The 2 RELENTLESS accounts I have on BANFF AND ARMY are grey and have hardly been used. If anyone requires any clarification as to my character feel free to speak with Magician who you all know and respect.

So far from what I have seen (if I remember correctly) there are 14 players with winning records, and I think out of those 14 maybe 1 or 2 have less than 10 games played. So far the team should be pretty set. I'm out of this tourney now, GG to those of you I have played and GL tho those of you who will represent fps. I might stick around for a bit longer for fun, but I'm officially withdrawing from the tourney.

At the beggining of the game he got a few unexpected blocks and killed my +50-60 knight so he had 2 knights through my defences within minutes. I realised my only chance was to send my own knights after his backline while his were dealing with my enchantress ^_^ eventually I had to sacrafice my enchantress in order to move my scout and it came down to wether or not his -10 something blocked a front hit or not. Was a pretty game though gg TGM

I was talking about wins to losses margin (thanks stinky). Mine would be plus sixty-six while yours would be plus twenty-two (which I can do in a lot less games but I just pulled a number that I knew would work out of my bum)!

So currently the debate is slowly turning from who should rightfully be on the team to what team will have the best chance against legends. Cliche - when tacto (and others) asked to join during the tournament, the organizers told them it was too late and they would not be allowed to join. While I'm not necessarily bound by that decision, it would indeed make a mockery of the tourney if, at this late date, I decided to ignore that prior decision. Further, I haven't seen any evidence that tacto wants to be part of this.

-EDIT- If, for some reason, I come to the opinion that we have NO adequately-skilled players left in the available pool, then I would certainly consider people like tacto, wack, etc - if they even wished to be considered. But we're not at the point yet.

-EDIT #2- If Geoff doesn't respond within a reasonable time (I'll give him at least a couple days), then plank will NOT automatically make the team - I have other people in mind who could step into the playoff and go against him. I'll deal with that if and when it becomes necessary. Just trying to be clear.

BUT I also want P and G them to play 2 out of 3, and I'm pretty sure my decision will be based on that. 1) it takes less time for them to schedule games with each other than it would for them to play the entire team. 2) since they are competing for the spot, it's good for them to go head-to-head.

As nothing is written in stone, and Fry is obviously reasonable and willing to discuss the issues that are present, I shall add my input.

First things first. Fry as captain. He obviously has the popular vote for being captain, I agree that he should as well. But what does being captain entail? Does it allow him to singlehandedly decide who should replace the inactive people on the team? I don't think so. This is a team, we should come to some mutual solutions after hearing several people's views on the subject. How good is a captain without a council?

Now for the fun topics, who should replace b00z and ninai.

Ninai crapped out and openly said he would be inactive, obviously we don't want him on the team for that reason.

b00z has some real life issues that he has brilliantly decided take priority over TAO, best of luck to him. But this leaves us with two spots open and a handful of people wanting to take their places.

As this effects the whole team, I believe the whole team should have a say in who and how these two people are chosen. As I am gladly part of the team, this is what I think:

The tryout tournament had it's flaws. Inactivity is at the forefront of the many. While the chosen team seems to be active for the most part, that problem has been handled (apart from booz and ninai).

I think another problem with the tournament was the lack of skilled greys that did not participate for one reason or another. People like realist, blud, wack, mith, mich (who is currently vacationing from TAO so not a good pick) etc.

These are all great grey players that for one reason or another decided not to tryout for the team. I for one would like to know this reason, and if it has changed for whatever reason, I would like to see them fight for the remaining open spots. This may seem like I am stabbing the tournament players who just fell a little short of making the team, but it is not. The tourney was designed to find the best grey players that FPS has to offer. When some of the best, who have proven themselves previously, do not participate, we must think why.

My suggestion is to talk with blud, mith, wack, realist and others to see if they want to fill in the two spots. If they do, we can work from there and see the best way to proceed. We have plenty of time before Legend's chooses a team, we should not be so rash in picking replacements.

If anything, we should come up with a list of people who qualify to fill the spots, whether they participated in the tournament or not. Skill and ability to be active is more important than whether one showed up for a tournament.

I'm not sure the choosing should only be limited to people who participated in this tournament. I know that when legends chose their turtle team, only some of the people were chosen via tourney and the others were kind of elected onto the team.

I'm not sure if I believe in the rigidity of "only if you were in the tournament," but it does seem kind of unfair to give other randoms a chance if they didn't put as much effort into joining as people who joined the tournament.

You should form a team from the people that expressed an interest in the tournament. That's about as simple as I can make my point.

This whole situation is incredibly simple. The matter at hand is if we want the best possible team or the most fair team. When it comes to deciding that FPS wants the best possible team, problems such as attitude can arise. When it comes to picking the most fair team, actual skill can be washed away. I believe we need to find a healthy balance. Nobody wants a poor sport who complains about luck or could possibly drop out halfway through the tourney. On the other hand, having somebody who displays the best possible attitude but only wins one out of ten games will not be very helpful either.

I think we should be weighing the time and effort players took to sign up and participate in the tryouts rather heavily compared to those who did not... but I think people such as Wack (who did not tryout due to being involved with too many other tournaments, which are now over) or Mith (who had a busy school/personal schedule at the time of our tryouts) should still be considered. I know that when we chose the original team it was pretty clean cut who would and would not make it but now... it comes off like we are scraping the bottom of the barrel to get the rest of the team together (to fill the shoes of Ninai and dab00z). Hell, why not refill the barrel and give it another go? If there are more people that can now be active and have equal or greater skill to those members already on the team, why not give them a shot. The people who already tried out got their shot, so we are not really supplying the "newcomers" with an advantage. Adding players who did okay and have an okay attitude (does not seem like a healthy solution) because they were ABLE to tryout does not compute in my brain. I am pretty damn sure everybody can agree that Wack and Mith are a couple of the best FPS greys and display outstanding attitudes, whereas a couple of the people we are beginning to approach lack in one or both areas. If plank, Geoff, Elemental, or whoever cannot do better than Wack or Mith... do they really deserve a spot on the squad simply because they COULD make the tryouts at the given time. We obviously started them very early, I mean look at Legends... who knows, we might have a whole new mix of amazing players to choose from. Yea, yea, all of this nonsense is easy for me to say since I have already made the team but if you really want FPS to win, shouldn't you put our team in front of yourself? We are treating the "newcomers" no better than the previous "tryoutees," just giving them the same chance.

At this point, I truly have no idea what I am writing about but I am all for letting more people join up. I agree with Bax about the council as well, because although Fry is our captain and should have some executive power... the rest of the team should get some input too. There is my two cents. Chew on it for awhile.

My second sentance was addressing that certain people who didn't sign up were too busy to participate in the tournie at its begining. After all, it was the closing of school and many families take vacations/trips or just plain school its self is very time consuming.

If everyone agrees to this then I think we should be picky about who we let tryout for the team.
We already decided upon the team. Some people obviously didn't make the cut... But a lot of them deserve a second chance... Some people that come to mind are geoff, elemental, plank...
And then theres the matter of who we *want* to tryout, but haven't.
Well I say that you make a mini tourny. And let THEM COME TO YOU, don't go PMing them asking them to tryout...I would advise letting them decide for themselves whether or not they wanna be a part of this. Rather than just trying to please you, or anyone else for that matter.

In my opinion we should cut ninai all together. Hes made it apparent that subs will need to fill in for him. Why not solve the problem of having to use subs ahead of time....

I followed this thread loosely until the team was picked, mostly out of curiosity. Once the team was picked I assumed it was over so I have ignored it until now. Giggles pounced on me in rev a little while ago, filled me in and strongly encouraged me to throw my hat in the ring. We talked for a while. Here's the deal.

The reason I did not enter the tryout tournament is that Bottle told me the tournament would take place in August, when he asked me to run it. I can't run a tournament or be in a tournament in August. Starting August 4th, and for at least two weeks after that, I will be completely absent from TAO, non-negotiably (long story). Giggles tells me that the tournament will be in July, which is doable. He says if I do this, I'd have to pwn, heh heh, I mean PLAY ten legenders. Dropless games between good players take a while but I think in a month I can manage to play ten games, if my opponents aren't inactive jerkwads. I will not be the most active person on the team I'm sure, but if I join this thing, I can guarantee I will do what is necessary to do my part (unless I am being deceived about what I am signing up for).

Most of you know my skill. What some of you may not know is that I am, at this moment, at the absolute peak of my skill at this game. There was a time when I played dropless grey all the time, so I had an archive of strategies and ways to approach different things. A year and a half ago I played this game to master it and I learned a great deal. I haven't played a ridiculous amount of dropless grey in a very long time so in one sense I haven't gotten all of that strategy and stuff back. But in that time I have spent a lot of time trying to master freestyle. I won't pretend to be the best freestylist in this game but I think I'm up there, having won three freestyle tournaments recently (one of them last night). The freestyle skill I have gained has greatly complemented my grey game. I'd be happy to play some tryout games with a few of you to confirm both to you and to me that I can live up to how good I believe I am right now (though I don't have the time for 30 of them). I am confident I will not disappoint.

Bax - good idea. If people from the team want to play Geoff and Plank and PM me their opinions, that would be fine. BUT I also want P and G them to play 2 out of 3, and I'm pretty sure my decision will be based on that. 1) it takes less time for them to schedule games with each other than it would for them to play the entire team. 2) since they are competing for the spot, it's good for them to go head-to-head.

But I will certainly take my teammates' thoughts into consideration.

Cliche - when tacto (and others) asked to join during the tournament, the organizers told them it was too late and they would not be allowed to join. While I'm not necessarily bound by that decision, it would indeed make a mockery of the tourney if, at this late date, I decided to ignore that prior decision. Further, I haven't seen any evidence that tacto wants to be part of this.

-EDIT- If, for some reason, I come to the opinion that we have NO adequately-skilled players left in the available pool, then I would certainly consider people like tacto, wack, etc - if they even wished to be considered. But we're not at the point yet.

-EDIT #2- If Geoff doesn't respond within a reasonable time (I'll give him at least a couple days), then plank will NOT automatically make the team - I have other people in mind who could step into the playoff and go against him. I'll deal with that if and when it becomes necessary. Just trying to be clear.

This is a good clarification to know. I can guarantee that if my opponents are not inactive jerkwads, I can get ten games done in the twenty or so days I have available in that window. I won't just straight out promise to get all the games done because I've run enough tournaments to know that sometimes when a game is not played, it's because one person didn't try, even though the other person did everything they could to get the game in. Why hold another a tourney? Why not pick someone. Replace the people with people who deserve the spot instead of having ANOTHER tourney. Letting people who were either too lazy or who couldn't participate in it.

I see no point in letting them in when they had their chance. So what if they are great. If we let people who did not try-out on the team. Half the people on the list wouldn't be on. Simple as that. You know it. I know it.

If you have a team. Would you rather wait til the last minute for the team to so called 'gel' before the tournament. Whereas if you choose someone, the whole team vote on someone. The team can be organised now, and start training. I know it sounds lame but say Fry plays Gig, Fry see's some weaknesses, he can help gig overcome them, instead of worrying about picking more people to join.

This is my opinion, pick someone who was already in the tourament. Get the team chosen as soon as possible instead of waiting around.

Ive got to agree with geoff on this point...i dont know if i have a say since i didnt make the team, but still. You guys have a very good team put together...however, its like geoff says. You guys could go from being very good to excellent in training during that month that you would miss for the tourney. Just vote some people in, and use that month to practice. There is always room for improvement, no matter how good you may be.

A word of advice to Fry: whatever you decide, bear in mind that you are going to want a cohesive team. It looks like if Wack, me, Hool or anyone else that wasn't in the tryout tournament end up joining this team, half of the team will despise us for it. We can still "gel" together, seeing as we still have 11 team members already picked and chosen.

Seeing as I never made the team (couldn't make the team for that matter), and am completely and totally unbiased in the matter, I'll throw my 2 cents in.

This tournament is set to kick it off on July 15, approximately a month from now. You've got people that want to fill the empty slots (and if I wasn't banned from Legends I'd want the opportunity to do it myself) and you've got a solid list of players that want to fill those slots.

Play for it.

I was debating whether or not to just suggest running a poll or having the current team pick the final members themselves, but that could turn into more of a popularity contest. Sure, you need to have a team that consists of friends, but you need to get the strongest team you can get as well.

Look, as far as I'm concerned you guys don't really need to "gel". You've all basically known each other for a while now and know what each other are like. Give me a good reason why you shouldn't hold another mini-tournament? Legends hasn't picked their team yet, and you don't really need a month of training in dropless grey, because no matter how hard you train, you're on equal playing field with your opponent when that match starts.

Let Wack, Hool, Mith, and whoever else has a valid reason for missing the try-out tournament have a chance. To the rest of you that have a problem with it, here's a simple thing to think about: winning. Beat them and prove you deserved to be on the team in the first place.

And I think pils was right earlier - we're not gonna go chasing people. If they want to step forward, we'll deal with it, but, so far, I'm not seeing any interest.

I'm still trying to decide what my thoughts are. I really need to hear from the rest of the team - so far, only pils, bax, gig and allstar have weighed in.
