This is the thread for the FPS Grey Team Tryouts. Discussion and game posting are both allowed and encouraged, but try not to spam the thread. I do have to read through the thread to record games.

All grey games will be dropless. If you fail to follow this rule in game, that is not ok. It will be taken as trying to see your opponents form to try to counter it.

Make sure to set a dropless form before playing, this is very important

Activity, along with skill will determine who makes it onto the team. Record will not get you a free ride onto the team if you haven't played very many games. Inversely, playing a bunch of games won't necessarily get you onto the team if you don't win a good number of them.

I think I'd like a simple game posting format, nothing fancy.

Ex:
I lost a game against allstar. allstar posts:

This tournament is going to be a round robin / free-for-all type tournament. You may play anyone in the tournament. You may play them multiple times, but I'm only going to record the first 2 games between two players, and none after that.

I might implement things as the tournament goes along. For example, I might randomly assign each player in the tournament an opponent to play, along with the round robin still going on. I could use this to help gauge activity.

I might also ask for a "vote" from each player for who they would like to see on the team.

Both of the 2 concepts above have been discussed in the FPS Grey Tourney thread. If you want to give your input (I would like it), feel free to post there.

Okay, so here it is:

Forum name = blue
Game names = red (or the same as forum name).
Win/Loss/Draw records will not be color coded, but instead recorded in that order.

First post too long: moving ranks to my next post in the thread.

well, i just want to say...i am eastern time(gmt-5) and i will be on at 6:30 my time almost every weekday up until school ends...i will be on other times, butnothing predetermined...so im on then if anyone wants to play me.

Everyone, I am GMT +10 hours... I can play around 6pm - 11:30pm everyday, more during the weekend if i'm not doing anything. Off to bed now, though I can maybe play in about 8 or so hours before I go to school.

Comments: Some early scout blocks for myself, combined with killing his scout early on in the game essentially did him in but he still gave me a run for my money (though surrendered after my sassy blocked a sixty-five percent side hit). Good game I'malive.

Comments : He had an offensive central rush set, and I was using a corner turtle type. He ended up sacraficing his scout for my cleric, and then retreating. I just rushed up my knight and kept my scout in range to do some damage, and ended up in a winning position.

Incredible, I was losing again by a terrible diference of potential, i cant play good games, and my opponents are really doing ok, anyways, that was just in the beggin when my comp just restarted, but my chances were minimum, if i had any chances by the way, ninai beat me so hard, impressive.. Just wait and see the Screen Shot!

I went up in the beginning, trading my assassin for his scout, then i made a stupid move with my scout, allowing him to bomb it.

It ended up in a standoff, then i rush with two of my knights and witch and weaken his two pyros and knight, end up fronthitting his knight for the kill, and he leaves.

The game had weird luck from the beginning. Both sides had misclicks. I ended up winning by 7. I lost my barrier ward, knight and witch.

Yeah, AFO bested me.
It was pretty wierd at the beginning, he took control early on.
I thought I was gonna be slaughterd.

Towards the middle it even out a bit, I went on the offensive. Was doing *ok* until I accidentally moved my scout (wasn't really planning on moving him... just clicked....)
Didn't really matter though, he probably had me. Just wouldn't have been by 7probably 6 :p

yet another quite close game, I survived his attack, then he almost survived mine, end was my 2 knights (one badly wounded) + wards + cleric against his 2 full knights, but my knights were still on the other side of field, so it was close..

Comments: He started off very aggresively, allowing me to take out two of his knights and scout which essentially won me the game. He got angry about a side pyro block and left at the end (though his knight only had sixteen health, the cleric had a one turn wait, and my second knight was about to get a back shot to kill). Good game kingedward.

gg, gig...and i was mad about that pyro side block, but i didnt leave because of it. My mom came and told me to get off, i said let me finish this, and then she hit the power button.

It would have been close but i think you would have still come out on top.

Yep. I took out mav. I baited him into taking my scout, and he fell for it...I lost the scout, but lost a lot more, + positioning. I was able to move my remaining units in and busy his enchantress while my witch and chanty moved up to free them. The witch bought it, but he was busy losing other units and his enchantress.

I'm surprised I won, considering the bragging post he made in the other thread and the fact that I'm not a brilliant grey.

Ah well, as departed Vonnegut would say, "So it goes..." :cool:

We both made some mistakes early on, he hung his witch to kill a knight, but let another knight die in the process...I let foolishly let both my wards bite the dust. In the end, he killed my 4hp scout and smartly retreated his knight to his wards. His knight is 19, mine is 33. There really wasn't going to be a way for me to kill his knight, so I stayed away. Clearly, he wasn't going to come out and get me (his knight was -70something). So it was a draw. A fun game for both of us. I had a little bit of the luck edge, mostly in the form of killing his assassin on a 41% side shot.

1 quick question, I'm under the impression that we are supposed to play 2 games with our opponent, Fps and Legends styles. I havent seen any games matchups that have had 2 games played. I hope for our sake that we do play legends style, because this IS a tourney to make the team to play againts the legends team...isn't it?If I am wrong, i apologize for the spam.

I got some nice blocking early one, killed assasin for my knight, but in doing so got nice positioning with scout/knight to kill chanty. I also reduced his one knight to 2. Then I threatened his cleric, he threatened my scout with witch. I witchburned killing his weakened knight/damaging witch, then killed his witch. He had no one threatenign my pieces, and I had his cleric pinned.

Yea, few early bad moves put me in a disadvantage. I was able to make the game closer but another bad move in the end sealed the deal. Too bad the next match I won but it was only a practice game :(.

First off u did get some good luck there. 2nd I am was in a bad mood already b/c I just competed in the State Track Meet yesterday and my team placed Runner Up when we were expected to become state champions.3rd I was distracted b/c i was talking to this girl I like on the phone.... I am sorry about any attitude I have shown..I am normally a nice guy.

comments: It was a pretty fun game. We traded scouts early then he was able to take a one unit lead by killing my witch and knight in exchange for his witch. He tried brining in his assassin but I injured it and forced her back. He tried to pressure me with his knights but I managed to trap one of them in the corner. He set up an assassin bomb and killed my full hp knight along with his 4 hp knight. I was able to weaken his knight enough so that it wouldn't be able to past my LW without getting killed. gg offline.

Description: Started off opp sides, sets where identical except his assassin was up one. Started off me killing his assassin for nothing, he mvoed a knight in I dealt with that, was still alive though. He than rushed me with 2 knights and his scout, killing my Witch. I than got another knight, and later on I killed scout and the 2 knights which rushed in for my assassin. Ended up winning by 8 units. I think I could have flawlessed if I was trying my hardest though.

Kingedward, you did well, and you have alot of potential, just keep playing and you will end up being a hell of a good player as you are good now and you have only been here for 5-6 months. Good game. Don't let losing those games get you down, you have alot of potenial in the grey game. Keep your head high.

I have been informed that IROK is trying out for the FPS grey team. Please note that as he has an 8 month ban in both forums and game, he will not be able to take part if he were to make the team as we are planning to organise the main tournament on LF and Legends. This isn't my choice, and I personally feel the 8-month ban was ridiculously excessive, but I'm not an admin.

I'm very sorry, IROK. Of course, you can still play in the tryout tournament but you can't play in the main event.

You misunderstand. IROK is banned on the forum and game for 8 months. By playing on the FPS team he would break that ban as the tournament itself will be held on Legends. Also, we're going with the same rules as the turtle tournament, ie. every game must be played on Legends (instead of Rev) and all wins must be posted by the person that won the game or they won't be counted. Simply put, there is absolutely no way IROK will be able to play on the FPS team. And I'm surprised he even signed up given that he KNOWS that would be the case.

It was a really fun game. I don't play too many same side games, but that's what this was. He did some nice damage with his wish, when he finally sacrificed it for my BR and scout, a nice move.

He was a little sloppy rushing with his knights, and with a lucky block/hit on my side, he lost two knights trying to get my cleric. But enough of that, you can see how it ends in the screen shot.

Each of us had luck, so it basically canceled itself out.

Not a lot to say, he tried to sneak his scout in to kill my cleric, but I witchburned his scout, my assassin, and his witch, which set up my assassin bomb. He barriered his scout (he couldn't heal) and my assassin blew up his pyro and LW. He then retreated the scout and killed my witch instead of killing my cleric, which was probably a mistake...although if he had killed the cleric, he'd have had no range, with his LW and pyro dead, my witch would have killed his, and my LW would have killed his scout, leaving him with 2 knights as his only attackers. So I don't think it would have really mattered.

Yes, I'm banned on LF and Legends, but not only can I still play any and all matches, but can get the wins posted. I wouldn't cheat. I'm good enough to not need to.

Phenominal match Fry. That witch block surprised me, but the only 2 things that occurred during that entire match that would have allowed me to get the win (perhaps) were that killer scout side you got, and that knight frontal block. I knew I wouldn't get it, but insane luck does sometimes occur in TAO. That just wasn't one of those times.

It was a good game, very different than the ones I've had so far, and definitely the toughest. We started off cross-town, and he immediately brought ALL 3 knights and his scout down. There was some major scuffling in my territory, but because of the haste with which he moved in his knights, I was able to sort of separate them as they came in. He killed my chanty, but then switched his focus from my scout to my witch. Witch blocked a side shot (whew) that really bought me some time and allowed me to kill his final knight. In the meantime, I had finally made his scout retreat. So he lost 3 knights, and I lost witch, chanty, and BW. So I went on the offensive, and he really made me work for it. Eventually, I was able to score a 90% hit on his assassin to kill it and end the game. My assassin is at 9, and knight is at 27. It was a real nail-biter. We both played well, neither of us saw any big mistakes the other one made. The witch block helped me indeed, although he got a scout side later that made the ending even closer. (Being fair, the scout block was more likely to happen than the witch block.) Excellent game, AU.

Game discription: Wow. very good game.
He had a wierd set, and I'll be honest, same sides was intimidating.
I didn't know where to start, so i thought I would throw a knight out on the outside of his set and see what happens. He basically opened the door, and let me in... taking his sassy, which was on the outside, back instead of being aggresive and attacking with knights....
From there I headed straight for his cleric and witch. Took a shot at his witch, first.
Then I went for cleric, I got one hit in. Then I got an extremly lucky block which allowed me to take his cleric, and heal. From there I killed his chanty with ease. He killed my knight.
At this point it was his scout, BW, LW, 6hp witch, 3 knights, and his assassin
Vs my cleric, BW, witch, sassy, 2 knights, chanty, LW, and scout.

He rushed in a knight on my scout, I handled it well with chanty and another knight (along with scout)

I eventually took 2 knights and witch, losing my assassin in the process (was using her as a diversion which worked quite well, because she killed one of the knights that I had LW'd twice)

Eventually I widdled him down unit by unit. Getting unusually good luck....
Call it karma, seeing as (apparently) he was getting insane luck against IROK. And I had terrible luck yesterday....

I wasnt paying attention. My brother was making me look up the surf report, i was have a fun little argument with my girlfriend. Those factors caused me to lose my scout in an embaressing way.

The game started out very much in his favor, both with blocks and with gameplay. I thought I could march in and do what I wanted, but he wound up taking a knight and assassin for just his chanty. At this point, I really thought I was in trouble. He followed by pressuring my scout and sending in 2 knights with scout backup. 1 knight had to retreat, but the other wound up killing my witch before I was able to dispense with it. So I now had only 2 knights + scout as attackers, while he had 2 knights, assassin, witch, scout. We shuffled around for a bit, and it looked like things weren't going anywhere. He even offered a draw, which I thought was strange, since he had the unit advantage. But I figured, why not try to win...and lo and behold, I was able to catch his scout in a corner and send it scurrying away with a -70 modifier and 17hp, which enabled my scout to kill it with a frontshot. Then, the tide turned. He made another mistake, allowing my knight to get to his cleric and witch, and after sacrificing one of my knights to undo the barrier and damage the witch, both the witch and cleric were mine. The other knight died soon after, but it didn't matter. This was the hardest game yet, having to fight back from such a deficit. Stinkydog's pretty good, he sure outplayed me at the beginning.

Yes, I'm banned on LF and Legends, but not only can I still play any and all matches, but can get the wins posted. I wouldn't cheat. I'm good enough to not need to.

And I had no clue that this was being run on Legends.

Honestly...this is unfair.
You didn't say the ban was unfair at the time. I'm sorry, IROK, but the same thing would have applied if Dape or Jonspen or anyone else that is banned on Legends tried to get onto the FPS team. Likewise, anyone that's banned on the FPS forums/game was ineligible for the turtle tournament.

Take it up with Omega if you really want to argue it.

He flanked me pretty quickly. If he was a bit more organized he could have had me. I also made a pretty nub move at the beggining which could have given his assassin the bomb. Luckily she blocked. Ended up winning by 8. He may have been able to take out another unit. I had wards, cleric, knights, witch, and scout. He had wards, cleric, knight, scout, and chanty.

On a note about my game with Fry, basicly, I over-extended myself and failed to kill his scout, I had a 50% shot to kill his scout at one point, but it blocked. I managed to trade 3 knights for witch/bw/chanty/1 knight(he forgot about that knight), but I was so out of position I could not capatalize on my one unit advantage. He was able to simply pull up his knight with scout support allowing him to take cleric/chanty. It was a good game, and could have gone either way. I'm happy with how I'm playing, and how everyone is playing.

He got my scout in the process. It was only a matter of time from there. Attack with knights. Retreat. Heal. Repeat. =P

I screwed up badly to give him my scout. I would have been able to take his archer or save my after it blocked though and we would have been even again but I missclicked with my archer instead of hitting his archer in the side I just moved back and my archer easily got picked off and his archer lived, that was the game right there.

This was very close early on where i had a few lucky shots on scout leaving his scout with 15 health and i attempted a 5% scout frontal hit with my scout and succedded which was unexpected but hey it hit and from then on I went on to take his witch and ws sitting in a very strong position. Geoff then had a very good recovery using the assasin bomb to take out my scout and then made a vwey nice chanty move to freeze me up but i responded with a very nicve chanty move of my own then the rest was as they say history, I have to say in Geoffs defence i was extremely lucky although his attitude would suggest it was all luck and no skill for which he did apologise at the end of the game but thats the way the cookie crumbles i guess

I was pissed as would anybody would have been, I apologised. I was angry. I stood a good chance of winnig. But a 5% hit screwed me, i did come back and killed 4 units which i think was good. After he killed my scout, I did not really care, since i had no chance to win, so i stuffed around. Was not a good game, thus why it was not said at the end of game.

I am hoping this kind of BS luck will stay out of this tournament. As i do not want people getting in on some stupid luck.

I'm sorry Geoff, but I'd prefer if you showed a little better sportsmanship about it. Maybe I should update the first post, but sportsmanship is definitely going to be a factor in deciding the team as well. The Turt Tourney had only a little bit of trouble about it, but no trouble is better than a little.. so we want to minimize conflicts.

It's not a game that will decide your fate probably, so there is no reason to get worked up about it. It also spammed up the thread a few posts, which will make it harder for me to rescore.

Also, FYI for everyone who is active:

We are not picking your team for you, and personally I like IROK and voted for him being forgiven for what he did over the mod password issue. But the fact is that IROK has an 8 month ban on Legends and if the tournament is held there then he will be expected to respect that ban. In fact, he voted for the ban himself at the time.

You really need to get on the same page as bludhoundz on this before you post things in public if you really are helping to run the FPS tryout tournament. We have both already agreed that the ban has to be respected.

Was a same sides game. Does this mean that all the games we played earlier didnt count? If so i might actually stand a chance b/c i got off to the worst start EVER. 3-9No it just means thats how far hes gotten with recording the games that have been played. Hes on page three, and hes making the list you quoted as well to keep the scores accurate.

That's pretty bogus.From what Gig and I figured out, hes going back through the pages and marking down the match ups as he records them. If you notice hes on the 3rd line of page 3.

I'm sorry I haven't been updating the games. You guys have been playing so many so quickly I can't really keep up. Tonight and tomorrow morning I will be too busy to, so I'm going to get a headstart now and try to catch up with you guys by wednesday night / thursday morning.

Actually Bax, of my 5 games, I've played 2 phenominal matches (Fry and nutbuster) a decent match (allstar) and 2 bad ones (mental and Selek). My match with Selek I tried using a center turt, something I haven't used in forever, and though I beat Pun, I just wasn't ready to use it again.

The only way to describe the match I just had with Worker is...insane.

We played opp sides, and I moved out my assassin and knight early. Losing my knight, I managed to set up an a-bomb. That's when things started getting insane. Luck was going both ways at first, he missed a high % knight frontal, and then got a 9% knight side right afterwards. Both our scouts were refusing to die, same with my assassin. He gets the assassin frontal at -12 or so to kill it, no bigguy, I just needed to block. He then blocks a witch frontal which saved his witch and confirmed the win.

I'd say good game, but that match was most luck for both parties rather than actual skill =/

Draq beats me. Amazing how much a game changes when you can't seem to get anything to go your way. If I got a 54% scout side early I think I would've done better. Good game Draq.

Description: It was a same side match. I started out by beating on his LW and then got a scout side block which saved its life (about time I got one of those :)). Ultimately the deed really didn't affect the outcome of the match though, because I really didn't use the scout afterwards. I used it to kill his chanty near the end, but it would have been a pyro doing it if I didn't have the scout. My scout just refused to die, at the end surviving 2 frontal attempts. Good game KAP
