Ugh, well just a little bit ago (around 12 something) my niece feel down and hit her head on a corner. She had a huge knot (? Idk if thats the right word) that was the from her eyebrow to the top of her forehead. Shes 1 year old and 3 months, she was upstairs when I she hit her head (My step mom and Dad said she was running and just fell) after they changed her diaper. Well I was in a state of panic when it happened. I ran upstairs because my dad got my attention and told me about it. I got her some cold rags with some ice to see if she would let us put them on it and of coarse she wouldn't. SHE FINALLY STOPPED CRYING and I was freaking out if I needed to take her to the hospital. I came back downstairs and got on the internet (I'm a guy, I haven't dealt with anything like this before), while my parents were figuring out what to do.
Sooooo I couldn't find shit (as I was in a rush) sooo I figured I might as ask somebody with child experience that was online the time. Soooo I quickly asked Jaymee_ and she walked me through exactly what I should do, and blah blah blah. She told me some stuff that I should do, before I did them I got the OK from my parents first.
But as I was saying, Jay helped me today! Shes awesome.... My niece is currently at our other house (pool house) and my dad says she doing fine.

first i thought this was gonna be another thread venting someone's emotions
then i thought it was a thread that would tell a full story with conclusion
then i thought it was a thread asking for help
then i thought it was a thread where you'd give the solution to the situation
and it's none of these!
Dres: how is she now? what did you do? do you need anything? how are you?

Shes fine, she has stopped crying. I am talking to her on the phone as I type. She can't really talk but she can kiss the phone and say hi.
As I said I gave my step mom a cold rag with ice in it. My niece wouldn't even let that touch her head for more than 3 seconds. After a bit of that she stopped crying.
Naw, I am good. :D My step mom can handle things. I just hope it doesn't get any bigger. That thing is huge. Srsly, bigger than anything I have ever had.
Jay told me that I should of crushed a Tylenol and put half of it in a sweet drink (I had already gotten her some Hawaiian Punch 15 minutes before the incident) soo I asked my parents if it was alright if I did this and they said it was ok. So I let the Tylenol dissolve like Jay said I should then I gave it to her. She didn't like it much but she drank it thank god.
And I am good, how are you uni? I was just freaking out for about half an hour... I seriously thought I was going to be in a hospital for the next few hours >_>
Its better when it swells right? If it didn't swell I would be in trouble?

i dont quite understand why you'd be in trouble. actually, the description of the incident is a bit confusing. There's a chance she might have gotten a concussion if she hit hard enough (it happens when the brain clunks into the skull a bit too hard). You're going to want to monitor her closely, and follow up with her doctor. Take note of any irregular ballance issues, odd pupil dilation (shine a small light into a test subjects eyes, then compare to hers), or vomiting.
Swelling means her immune system recognizes something is wrong there, and is infiltrating the tissue by diverting a lot of blood.

Ok, so these are things I should do:
Make shure she doesn't sleep
Check her pupils
Check her up with a doctor (just in case)
Watch her like a hawk
Any thing else I should know?
Ok talking to my step mom I asked her to get a flash light and check her pupils and stuff she said thats fine. The redness around the bump has gone away and now its just slightly purple. They don't say they are going to take her to the hospital. She has a doctors appointment on the 11th anyways. They are both watching her and shes wide awake.
All green.

turns out that "no sleep" thing was just a myth. People believed they would sleep and then go into coma and never wake. Turns out it's pretty unfounded. However, now allowing sleep for a bit does allow for observation.
She'll bounce back. And just think, when she's like 16 and asks uncle dressy why she has a weird harry-potter scar that prevents her from getting asked out, you'll have an amusing story of your protective efforts :) no there won't actually be a scar...

Keep her awake for at least two hours.
Check her pupils for dialation.
Make sure she is not wobbly or dizzy.

hey Dres is an uncle?
I have a nephew too. Both my niece and nephew had had problems...
My niece has "broken" her leg. (I am almost positive her asshole of a dad did it)
The night that happened I went to the hospital with my dad and went straight up to my niece's dad and went to punch him in the face but my dad said I shouldn't.
My nephew was a premature baby =(
He came over tonight, I checked his weight and hes 10 pounds 6 ounces. Hes 3 months old =(
His large intestine wasn't fully developed so they took it out. He now has a stoma and a lot of other crap. At 6 months old they are going to stretch his small intestine to his ass so he can actually crap instead of having to crap out of the side of his body into a bag.
Poor Kid =(
I don't think he will ever get really big because you get most of your nutrients from your large intestine right? Yeah...it sucks. The kids black though so I know hes going to be a fighter. Yes, I am very happy about the fact I have a black nephew, its sweet.
I gots me 2 sisters. Both have 1 kid.
So we just gonna spamm this thread now its all been solved?
Go ahead, I don't care. Why not say a time when you were freaking out?
Sorry AU, but what can I say.. he wanted to ask someome smart. <3
