I just recently bought a new HP Pavillion 6500 laptop for my schooling. As i started to use it, i began to notice that my internet was getting very slow speeds, slower than what my old crap desktop would get. I've looked all over for things that pertain to this, though none of them have helped me out with my situation yet. So now i was wondering if anyone here can help me out with my problem. The system specs are here:
Windows Vista Business (32-bit)
4 GB RAM
Intel Core Duo 2.0 Ghz
383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphocs card
Intel Pro/Wireless 4965AGN with bluetooth
160 GB Hard drive
So far, i've tried:
Uninstalling the Norton free trial that came with the laptop
Writing a new registry file for the ipv6 thing
Turning off the windows firewall to allow everything
Moving around my laptop and the wireless router and modem
I'm still puzzled as to why it is still getting such really slow speeds and loading times. If anyone can help me, that would be a great help.

im sorry to say this but the might be coming from the windows vista software itself because, i was using a laptop with windows vista last week compared to the laptop im using now(installed with windows XP) , my laptop is 2x faster than the one even though the specs are all the same but the one with vista has processor of 1.80 and the one i have is only 1.66 and yet im suprised its faster than the one with vista, there comes to the conclusion that vista is slower than windows xp and also for my laptop, i havent changed anything that came along with my laptop that came with it but rather added more stuff
4 GB of memory? Seems a bit high for a laptop to me, but I'm no guru either. I just bought a computer as well, that came with Windows XP media center edition. I specifically chose not to upgrade to Vista simply because the memory requirements of Vista were so huge that they exactly matched the specs of my machine. I looked at it like putting a big engine in a little sports car, or the family van. Sure, the engine will power either car, but the van will go like a van, and I want a sports car. Also, I don't trust Microsoft anymore. I don't trust them to develop quality software and address issues with it in a timely manner when they come up. The Sasser virus opened my eyes to a lot of things. Since then I don't use antivirus software, I see no point in it . But working with an operating system that I know how to use the system tools on is necessary to go defenseless against virii. Maybe I'm supersticious (sp?) but maybe one of my fears has become a real issue for you. Seriously though, I'd double check how much RAM that computer really has.

Im not all convinced thats its because of Vista.
I just recently got a HP dv9308nr notebook with Vista Home Premium
160GB Hard drive
986MB RAM (dont laugh!)
Processors: 2x AMD Turion64 1.60Ghz
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Graphics card
and my wireless internet works fast whether im inside, outside, or next door. I think there is another problem.

Yeah I'm not sure if it's all Vista, I'm running Vista Home Basic, which is the shit version too, and my internet's fine. I would rather have Xp though, everything's slower on Vista. Oh well.
Edit - And I'm on a laptop as well, with about the same specs except for the ram, which I only have a gig of. So good luck

Oh well, thanks anyways, i kind of sorted out the problem, though i think i might need to get a new router and modem box to optimize my internet.
