If you have heard that there was supposed to be two moons in the sky 12:30 AM August 27th 2007, then I can tell you that it was all a hoax. Since 2003 a Email has been circulating saying that Mars will be so close to the Earth that it will appear as if two moons were in the sky. I went out a half hour ago to go see for myself. Nothing in the sky accept a few stars and the moon. Has anybody else heard about this rumor?

I'm gonna be awake to see that.
It's tremendously unlikely that I'll get anything of value with my shoddy 4x zoom, but I'll take pictures nonetheless, and post whatever I DO get here. :)
Edit: Oh who am I kidding... You can't take pictures with a digital camera in the black of night. :p
Anyone want some pictures of dust on the lens though?

you sure as hell can take pictures in the dark. I've taken a picture when it was too dark to see my hand in front of my face.

There IS going to be a meteor shower visible some time in the future.. and it's a once in a lifetime kinda thing.
I forget when it is, but I think you have to be on the west coast or in Alaska or something.

Nut.. nice one..
But I did hear a rumor about that once. I don't think that Mars is close enough to consider a sight "Two Moons" though.

I researched more about this "Two Moons" Theory. Evidently its just a internet hoax that happens every summer. Oh well, Stupid me for believing it.

Might this picture been of your hand?
Which was, as stated, in front of your face.
Or maybe it was something equally illuminative by flash?

You can shoot in the dark with a digital compact camera - here are some instructions on how you would do it for my camera. Yours might be different, but if you read the manual, it should tell you.

Oh and there was a red moon in Kalamazoo the other night, caused by a lunar eclipse, it was pretty but I did not photograph it. http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2007/12feb_lunareclipse.htm
