View Full Version : Bama & Elentari's Art Thread

Well, Elentari and I have been up all night drawing and we decided to make a thread about it.

In this thread we are going to post our work and would like feedback from the community.

Tonight I worked on a woman laying in a hammock by the sea. Ele worked on a mermaid.

Bama's : Well this is only a part of the picture, unfortunatly my scanner isn't as large as my art pad.
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/3208/brittainy2nt7.png

Ele's : We had a discussion about the mermaid, but it isn't forum PC.

Ele are you a mermaid?

Nice job both of you.

Elentari

I am actually a unicorn.

EDIT: I use my teeth to hold the pencil?

I remember watching Disney movie about a unicorn or something...

I don't remember what it was called...

AlabamaBoy
08-30-2007, 07:33 AM
Someone obviously has a fascination with Elentari, or is attempting to get their post count up.

I want you to know.

This thread isn't for the latter.

If it is the former, show it with more gusto.

Funny, I'd have thought you would just draw with your horn.

So then the question for Bama is....

Would you do a mermaid??? I mean, sure, up top it's all woman. But things get kinda.... fishy, when you travel down. Even assuming she has human female lower genetalia, would the scaly tail kinda throw you off game or not???

AlabamaBoy
08-30-2007, 07:50 AM
Throw me off my game?

Of course not.

Oddly enough we were discussing how that would work.

You know... considering I don't know how a mermad's anatomy is put together...

Would you give up an "encounter" with a mythalogical being because of a scaly tail.

I wouldn't.

Jeffery
08-30-2007, 07:53 AM
You would have probably one of two setups....

Either a fish style mating system, which means she would lay eggs and you'd have to then do a solo job to get them cooking, or the more human style. Which I assume you have an inkling on how that works. Unless you're catholic.

But, do you really think even if it was the second case, that you would be able to get freaky? I mean, a tale slapping you constantly would be a bit distracting. That and you'd never be able to get adventurous and do it on an elevator.

Excaliber

As shocking as this may be, I would like your thoughts on the actual topic of the thread.

Matt 34.5
08-30-2007, 08:03 AM
Bama's looks good, just two suggestions.
1) The depth is off, with the shadows and whatnot concidering you can see the light source, but I'm assuming you just draw for fun and have no real art-related education?
2) It would be better if it was an above view and she was a nude sun bather.

As for Ele's its well-done, though I'm not sure where the light source is, thats how I start off all my drawings - real sketchy. My only problem with it is that again, her boobs are covered.

AlabamaBoy
08-30-2007, 08:10 AM
I do actualy.

And if you could see the whole picture, it would flow better.

Note the slightly abstract nature of the light source, and shadowing.

It isn't supposed to be within the laws of realism.

As promised:

I was voted Most Artistic in my graduating class of 600+ at my high school. Here’s some artwork of mine I have hanging around my room:

http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/2651/1000410hn3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
This is FINGERPAINT where I had a 30 MINUTE TIME LIMIT (which explains the rushed background). I am always the slowest artist in my class, so anything with a time limit is not good for me, but I think this one turned out alright.

http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/2162/1000411xh2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
This is paint. Only the second painting I’ve ever done. It was a still-life of my jacket, baby picture, PSP, MP3, baseball hat, basketball, cards, and a random Foo Fighters CD. :p

http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/5332/1000414qv0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
The top picture on this one is pencil, the bottom is pen and ink.

http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/7672/1000413ww5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
These are a couple sketches from a long time ago. They’re decent. Grim reaper and skull.

http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/7240/1000412gb7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
This is my favorite piece. It is colored pencil. The microphone, newspaper, and Bible wrapped in the flag represent freedom of speech, press, and religion.

I have a nice self-portrait and drawing of a praying mantis lying around here somewhere, but I can’t find them.

Light sources are for losers. I always have problems with that in my drawings.

And the boobs weren't covered at first. My dad came in while I was in the middle of drawing and asked me to put a dress on her or something (), so we compromised.

That's not why you didn't win though. Real went mostly with the most interesting and engaging entries, or entrees in his words, and a poem can't really compete with multiple post long stories in that respect.

Oh I wasn't saying I didn't win just because Real thought I plagiarized. XD

No, I knew I had no chance from the start. >_> I shoulda kept the last two sentences on different lines.

Next up is pencil.

Just doodling:

I hate having a subject or medium in which to create it in forced on me, as you can see I don’t tend to do as well under such circumstances:

That’s all I had on my Bucket. I’ll dig around and see what I can take pictures of.

Hey! Don't diss the baby photo!

Nec, I kinda like the bowl of fruit. It's abstract, but not TOO abstract. It is appealing to the eyes, very colorful. What media is that?

I used to have some crappy sketches I did when I was, ah, twelve. Or something of the sort. :)

I haven't picked up an artpad in years (literally), as writing is more my forte. Since I doubt anyone here would consider my writing "art", I'll just have to draw more crappy sketches for y'all.

P.S. Mantis - my brother loved the polar bears.

First we had to sketch it, then ink that, then water-color the hole thing. It was done on sketch paper then traced on a light table through onto water-color paper for the inking.

Try adding more value. It looks like everything is either black or white. A greater value of shading will give it a much greater appeal and a more 3-dimensional look.

I like your american flag piece a lot mantits.

Here are some of my drawings, all of them are done in pen, and on binder paper, since I usually only draw in my classes. The last one was from a long time ago, so it was done in pencil.

And none of these drawings are finished since I get tired of them too fast.

This one is my favorite so far:

Guess I don't have to pick up the artpad after all. Our drawing styles are very similar, as well as what we actually draw, only yours are... Darker. The shading has more depth and flow to it, whereas mine look more like comic book art with the more heavily contrasted shading.

Where's the white flag when you need it? :)
