Well, I figured, since I've been here for a long time, and I've kinda grew close to all of you. I felt the need to share.
Anyways, after working 9 hour shifts, everyday day with the exception of sunday, for 8 dollars an hour, I figured I needed something to make a career with, something I could do for the rest of my life, and never regret it.
However, I have indeed came to a conclusion, and I've decided to make a career as a cop. It's kinda ironic in the long run, from the kid who drinks, smokes, and used to cut school almost once a week before I graduated, has decided to become something he avoided his whole life.
Starting tomorrow, I'm going to get some information about the upcoming seminars, and get some information so on and so forth, take some tests.
So this thread is dedicated to information. Because, despite just outright talking to someone about becoming a Police Officer, I figured I'd scrunge up some information beforehand, and not going in their blind as a bat.
And personally, I don't really care if a thread was made like this before, because well, that was their decision in life, not mine. It's not going to be an easy road, but I'm quite positive that if I strive enough to be one, then obliterating a few walls and obstacles would be no challenge right? If it isn't a challenge, then not only is the victory all the more sweeter, but just down right awesome.
And as this thread closes, I've come to the conclusion, to not make this a "hey congratulate me" thread, but a thread to pretty much have some other people interested in helping others gather information online or offline about what they are striving to be, or those who just came to that one crossroad, and is not sure where to go.

I don't know much about being a cop (being so gangster and all), but I really think you would make a nice CPA somewhere, Ed. I think you would work well in charge of money or a group of people, hopefully to help run a successful corporation.

Well, Crack.. what can I say? This is the most adult and mature thing I have ever seen you post. I'm proud of you. Your future career is going to be hard to obtain.. but that will just make you appreciate it all the more. Good luck my dear, and keep me informed on your progress along the way. Stay safe and follow procedure when you become a police officer.. I don't wanna read your obit online someday.

Eh, like I said on AIM.
I enjoy welding alot, but I'd rather go through life without having the multiple scars on me from burn marks. Over the 3 years I took it in highschool, I've gotten about 4 on my left hand, 2 on my right thigh, and a couple on my ankles.
it's a dangerous job, but a great vocational art to learn. But, it's not something I want to make my life out with.

haha.
I used to do it back in my sophomore year in highschool. Cause my cousin (who shall remain nameless) used to get it from a couple of guys from New york who he went to college with pretty cheap.
But, not something I'd be willing to go to jail for, by having it on me.

I've been stabbed in the back way too many times to have people do my work for me :P
Look on the brightside though, if I DO become a cop, I can't do anything since you're out of my jurisdiction. But I could put in a bad word or two for you ;)

Not so rare these days. The kids who aren't busy avoiding cops usually become CEOs.

Nah, not a WHOLE lot goes on in Bayonne. On rare ocassions, there will be some domestic issues, but not alot of gang related stuff.
however, I feel that would change when the LightRail (local train) runs through our town with 3 stops. Cause they all start up in West Side, and Jersey City / union and the rest of there.
in the long run though, would just give the job more excitement.

Nah, I was a little bad ass. Cuttin class since 8th grade. Cops grab you for being that young walkin the streets.
And Jersey IS/trying to pass a law, that everyone underage even in a car with an adult, will get a fine for smoking.

It wont pass. Nationwide, smoking is not illegal for adolescents. It's not even illegal for them to buy cigarettes. The only thing illegal in the entire process is that cigarettes cant be sold to them.

You do know that many police stations look at education, community service, multiple language skills, and military experience right?
If you are really serious about this I suggest going to your Navy recruiting station and asking about Reservist Master-at-Arms. Most of them become policemen pretty easily, plus you get a $20,000 signing bonus. If I remember it is a 4 year term. After 8 weeks of bootcamp you go to Virginia Beach (where I am) which is a decent base, but MA's do get it pretty hard. School really isn't long (4 months(ish) including bootcamp) and you learn many skills required for police work. You get military experience, military police experience, and a decent signing bonus.
Look into it.
(If you are afriad of Iraq, don't consider this. Most likely you will spend like a year of your term there. That's my guess not fact.)
