I saw this online and I am appalled, maybe this has been covered before, but here it is.

This is an appalling video detailing the rasisct event that occurred in Jena Louisianna. They are being tried for 22 years in prison, and one trial has already been in effect for over a month now. For some reason, the news is not covering this, and there is a need for major grassroots support. Please watch this video and go to the link at the bottom of this page to sign an online petition for an appeal of those unlawfully prosecuted becasue of their race. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuoiZnr4jLY)

here is the link to the online petition, nothing is needed except your name and your email adress, which is hidden from public viewing but is used to verify signatures. (http://www.petitiononline.com/aZ51CqmR/petition.html)

Please do what is right!

They hide things to create a state of equality with everyone in masses. By telling them things people absolutely do not need to know, they throw not only the country into chaos, but escalate the problem even further.

This is a small example, the Russian/ America with the missle silos. When Stalin and America were doing the arms race. They didn't tell america that we had missles pointed and stationed in Turkey because America would see Russia's retaliation as justifiable, and not only lose support, but would have people looking over their shoulders going to work fearing for their kids lives in a Russian retaliation.

As for the Jena 6, there's racism everywhere, it's gonna happen because of sterotypes, I'm signing it. But, it's like using the words "Nigger" and "Niggas" There's nothing wrong with those words in general. It's the bigot asshole using them.

I am by no means a racist, so let's just get rid of that right here. I do think the punishment is by no means fair either, but let's think about this further.

My question is why is it so important to sit under that tree? I mean...really. I totally understand that there should not be a problem with it, but if a bunch of stupid ass country bumpkins want to sit under that tree and think that is the be all and end all of everything then so be it....Let their dumb country asses sit under that tree and think that they are superior if they want.

Now it is obvious that this guy knew that if he went to sit under the tree that there could be ramifications...hell he went to ask the principal if he could...as stupid as that sounds.

If he really wanted to make a stand he should have hacked the damn tree down as it seem to stand for racism in that town in some way.

He had every right to sit under that tree. Same as Rosa Parks had every right to sit in the front of the bus.

Sure, if he did not stand up there would have been no trouble. But the problem would still have been there. Those that sit there and do not fight for what is right are just as much part of the problem as those actively discriminating against others.

A man pulls a shotgun on some kids and threatens to kill them, and they get charged with theft for taking away from him??? White kids beat up a black kid, and nothing happens. Black kids beat up a white kid and they get charged with attempted murder???

It's called a protest. Do you think Rosa Parks didn't get up not knowing that there would be hell to pay? That's exactly what a protest is. A way of getting someone's attention and showing that you're not going to put up with segregation or racism anymore. And not just for racism; any type of descrimination.

And for the part about cutting down the tree, it wouldn't have been as effective. The fact that this kid stood up to them is amazing. Cutting down the tree while nobody is there wouldn't have much of an impact. Sure it would be a protest, but nothing compared to what he did.

Do you see how what this kid did? It's going to change his whole city from a corrupted racist town to hopefully something better. I think this kid did something great.

He had every right to sit under that tree. Same as Rosa Parks had every right to sit in the front of the bus.

Technically speaking Rosa Parks did break a law, albeit a stupid one. They were know as the Jim Crow laws.

But, I think you missed my point Jeffery...there was nothing good that was going to come from sitting under the tree.

Rosa just didn't want to get up and for her it was more about being asked by a supposed gentlemen to ask her to move. In the South that is not a gentlemanly (if there is such a word) thing to do...more likely a gentleman would give up his seat for a woman.

Sure, if he did not stand up there would have been no trouble. But the problem would still have been there. Those that sit there and do not fight for what is right are just as much part of the problem as those actively discriminating against others.

Trust me the problem is still there despite where he sits. Those idiots are still going to have their beliefs and having a black guy come sit under a tree is not going to change it.

Chopping the tree down makes a better statement in my opinion....even if it is against the law.

A man pulls a shotgun on some kids and threatens to kill them, and they get charged with theft for taking away from him??? White kids beat up a black kid, and nothing happens. Black kids beat up a white kid and they get charged with attempted murder???

If you can sit there and say it is all the fault of the kid who wanted to point out the racism then I have news for you. YOU are racist. No matter what disclaimer you want to put before your post.

Without hearing all of the details I agree that the punishments are beyond harsh or fair. I suspect that the judicial system will sort all of this out as the punishments do not really make much sense.

Well I don't think you have a good understanding of the situation. I do infact live in the South...Blacks and Whites pretty much all live in harmony where I live....but go into some rural parts of the South (such as this small town) or the inner city and not much has changed.

A racist is not going to be forced to change his opinion on his thoughts on blacks or whites(yes there are racist blacks who hate Whitey too:shocked:) just because someone sat under a tree. Their feelings are deep rooted and multigenerational. You can not force anyone to feel a certain way by someone sitting under a tree.

Jeffery, I am sure there are parts of your own town where you would get your ass beat to a bloody pulp if you just showed up...just because you don't have the same skin as the those that are there. But would that be a good reason to just see if it would happen? To prove that there was racisim?

Only thing you would have proved was that you were a complete dumbass for thinking that you might actually have proved something....

A way of getting someone's attention and showing that you're not going to put up with segregation or racism anymore. And not just for racism; any type of descrimination.

Go read for yourself what Rosa Parks intention was....She didn't do it for a protest as it is so often refered to. She was tired and she wasn't going to get up for a man because she was a woman....Sure all the history books make it sound like she did it to be apart of a protest, but that really had nothing to do with it. It was later part of a reason to protest in the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Do you think that Montgomery improved because of any of this? Southern and Central Alabama has to still be the most racist part of the country I have ever been in.

If you really think that this going to improve this town in the near future...well I have some ocean front property to sell you in Wyoming...

There is not a part of any town I would not walk in if I wanted. I've done it in both Chicago and Milwaukee growing up, and been there in Columbus several times. You only get beat up if you are stupid enough to do something to get beat.

You are wrong when you say nothing good could come from the kid sitting under the tree. Change will come to that town. Politicians that saw nothing wrong with doing things "the old way" will end up out of office. The school will end up having to actually pay attention to racist behavior of its students, and not just turn the other cheek.

And yes, a few racists might even end up rethinking how things are. It's happened before.

Your solution to just continue the racism and not say a word is cowardly. Thething is that your kind think you are right, that racism exists for a reason, and there is no reason to do anything about it. Luckily there are a lot of people better educated than you that have seen racism is wrong, and will stand up and fight it.
Even if that fight has to start by just sitting under a tree.

But I am sure you will find another tree to lynch people from. Your kind always does.

But, just so you know, no matter how much you try and stop it, someone will stand up and fight for the right to be treated equally. And yes, being allowed to sit under a tree is one small step in that direction.

Rosa Parks stood up for what she believed was right. No matter if you want to recognize it or not, what she did was in fact a major protest. Just because she didn't plan it out does not mean that is was not a protest.

She was a black woman in a society where she was not accepted, and she was tired of it. She protested by not getting out of her seat for a white male; her oppresor.

Must live in Germany

Actually, Germans seem to have a problem with all the turks living in their country. I don't really know why, they just do.

Back on topic. I think the whole situation is brought on by morons over in Hickville. Stupid people tend to be ignorant and act foolishly. I really don't see what this has to do with America, unless you want to bring our past into the fray, which is entirely uncalled for. You may however bring to the table the opinion that this is a small redneck town in Geogia and many of the people that live there are poorly educated, and their opinions on discrimination and racism are not conventional with more modern beliefs. So whoever said America sucks needs to go sit in the corner for a time out.

Actually this brings to mind a story. I had a friend visiting from out of town not to long ago, and he's... well a hick, says so himself. Anyway, he comes to Austin and I'm showing him around town and we're on Congress Bridge and he sees Leslie(the local transvestite, kind of a strange Austin icon). First thing he says is, "Let's go beat his ass." At first I was a little shocked and appalled, because I actually know Leslie and he's a nice guy. Then I realized that's what he grew up with, and got over it relatively quickly. I explained to him Leslie was cool, and I don't go around beating up people that are different than me. It's pretty much the same thing here to a larger degree, give these folks a slap on the wrist for being ignorant and let them go on their way, don't make such a fuss about it.

Someone must have your account password....or maybe you are starting to lose your memory sooner than you should...or maybe you meant to say something else....

Honestly, RG, tell me.. does a kid deserve 22 years in prison for getting into a fight? The white guys didn't, so why should the black guys? Racist.

Well you might try reading...as I said in my first post in this thread, on the first sentence...I will quote for you since you seem to be....how should I put this....A little well....SLOW!!

Might I suggest that you go sit under that tree with those dumb country bumpkins and I will bet that they might be able to teach you some reading comprehension...It's a stretch...but I have faith in you Hornet.

I am by no means a racist, so let's just get rid of that right here. I do think the punishment is by no means fair either, but let's think about this further.

Sure looks like I said that I didn't think that the punishment was fair, but that's just me.
