often, when i beat someone badly or if he loses connection, he will simply leave without surrendering. which one affects ratings more, leaving without surrendering or surrendering?

thats a common misconception. it doesn't make a difference if he surrenders or not.

D/cing took away less stats in the past in case someone d/ced. But it became exploited and therefore changed.

Actually, they leave because surrendering is really really hard and humiliating for people who cannot lose.

surrendering's not that bad...although i see your point. once i beat a gold with my grey(im serious, he put my wisp next to my ward and i zapped it, then my witches and assasin killed his tyrant and he just left)i guess its hard for them to accept the truth.

True i have been guilty of this many times, it is hard to continue a game where the opponent beats you handily or when a game starts out bad.. some days youd rather take it raw than graciously submit.
I think of it this way...in MMA there are only 5 ways you can leave the octagon...
1) YOU ARE VICTORIOUS!
2) YOU GET KTFO
3) you get submitted (aka tapp out)
4) you get disqualified for cheating.
same rules aply to tao.
1) You are victorious
2) your opponent destroys your last remaining piece.
3) You surrender.
4) You are a hacker, or you apply some other form of deviousness means (stalling, or clever wordplay...tacticsexpert) to win, get caught and subsequently get banned.
Don't expect people to be gracoius in defeat, but rather take solace in the fact that they could not hang with a big dog.
