Looks like Kentucky got kind of desparate for a coach hiring on Billy Gillespie from Texas A&M.
Kentucky will be a down program for more than just the three years I stated earlier.

You schedule to have your first game in Rupp Arena, One of the largest Basketball arena's in the nation, against a college team that has an enrollment smaller than some high schools, from some no name conference. Not only do you lose, but you get your ass stomped in the fricking ground.

So how did this happen? Well the story goes that Billy Gillespie was brought in after being hired to the Athletic Director. Here's how it went.
AD: Billy we are so glad to have you here at the University of Kentucky. We are sick and tired of having winning seasons over and over again only to not get very far in the Tournement. I want you to change that. I want you to think really hard about who you want at the first game in your coaching career at University of Kentucky.
Billy Gillespie: Well I have thought about it really hard and I want Gardner Webb for the first game.
AD: Not a problem here's four tickets center court on the front row...Tell him to bring the whole family.
Billy: :lol: No I was talking about the little school in NC that has only 3000 students. I will beat them to a bloody pulp and it will make me look really good.
AD: Well I guess we can do that...Not sure how many tickets I need to send to their school to sell though...We probally could seat every student that ever went there. :lol: Heck for that matter we could put the entire campus in Rupp Arena.....:lol:
