View Full Version : No Humans League

Fair Warning, this is long...

I have tried to start something like this a couple of times on Legends, but I only got in a few games back in those days. Must've been a year or two now at least... A No Humans Game is exactly what it sounds like, a game with no human units. Some argue the wards, but by design, they are Human Units. That leaves the Golems and the Beasts. There are 9 units among the Golems and Beast, that happen to make a full, legal set, given that one of them is a Dragon, and counts as two.

I believe this happened for a reason. I believe it is the next step in TAO mastery and playing style. I see that Revelations is about the best place to set up shop for this as TAL is the only place to seriously build powerful, viable, non-human sets. Therefore, Revelations is the home of the No Humans League.

Some Things of note about No-Humans Games:

You have almost no range.
You can't heal.
You have almost no armor, though this is easily changed.

These cause games to go rather quickly, or take even longer than the normal turt style because no one will risk getting hurt. Remember, no healing, so every mistake is critical. It also makes the game even more chess like.

I am thinking registering an account solely for this League, and to show my dedication, I am discarding my Human Units. All of them, because I want to seriously stand behind this as a new style of play.

Think back to when you first started, you were dropless, I was on Legends and only had one scout... after awhile, you got a couple of extra units, and your play style adapted. Perhaps you found a clan and learned some tricks... Eventually you got to be Gold, which server is not quite so influential... and you got to play TAO the way it was meant to be played, with a host of units and set options.

Somewhere along the way you played 'turt', a custom setup rule, that hasn't been expanded in ages, a style that helps make the stone golem shine. So you have now played TAO in all it's forms after many years, you have reached some status, maybe you are collecting Frosts or Witches to build that perfect set.

I say get rid of those useless puny whining humans and explore an entire new dimension in TAO, one where skill matters far more than luck, and there is no way to cower in fear behind some ward, and relying on a cleric's healing to win your games... but I digress a bit now and then, now specifically.

Some Ideas, or Suggestions I had concerning the League, TAL, and TAO in general.

Wards to be grouped with Golems, they are both constructions. It would open Wards to No Humans games and help eliminate any distinction between using them or not.

Units granted to No Humans players who discard their human units, this would encourage the registering of an extra acc to play in the League, as most people wouldn't make that commitment on their main acc, but at 5$, for a Rev acc to play in the League, especially if a small bonus was granted for it, I think a lot of people would.

I had thought a second Ambusher for discarding both scouts, and maybe some extra Muds or Riders for the Knights. It needn't be anything outrageous, just something to take the sting out of committing an account to the play style or League. This of course is up to the admin, personally, I'd like to encourage a system where certain units can be exchanged for a few others, but it need not be anything drastic.

TAL points for No Humans players. Either a few within League games, or extra for placing in TAL tournaments. No Humans players are at serious disadvantage against most other types of play. Given that human drops are pointless TAL becomes the primary means of fueling this League, and it's experimental game play.

Well, that is a lot to soak in, I will be posting some screen shots of sets, and details on the League Happenings. I am making an account just for this, though for some maybe just some space in their reserves to hold a sets worth of units for the play style. TAL rules state that 16 people must be in a Tournament and be approved. So I need at least 15 other people to sign up. Not saying everyone in the league has to ditch all their people to try it out, but if TAL approves us, and especially if we are granted some bonuses, then to be eligible for them, I think making a dedicated account would be best.

I am aware that it will take time to build this up. I am a patient man. I want to work with the moderators and administrators to make this happen, I know it won't get anywhere but a mostly useless account if I don't. No Humans Style of play is it's own thing, and it isn't for everyone. I want to get a League of at least 16 people who will play at least 1-2 games a week or more within it. A Ladder or post board would be set up to mark games and ranking.

Not trying to shake things up too much, but I think that TAO has a lot of untapped potential, I want to exercise my creative talents as much as I can to help realize that potential.

I would love to hear some feedback from a mod on this, and the community. I have given this a lot of thought, and I think it and a few other ideas I have may be some avenues TAO, and TAOGaming, may want to explore.

Thank You,

Lord Ash

Wow, awesome response guys!

can wait to get this going. PM me if you want to arrange a game with the day and time, I'm US, central time.

So, only a few more people to gather and we will have enough for a tourny, hopefully each week, with ranking of our own.

I have discovered a couple of other variants I will be posting on, with TAO, there is always a style of play to try out. I am on most days, just ask in the lobby on Rev for a No Humans game, I'll answer if I'm on !

I'm in, but I would like to ask that games be specified as dropless by standard, as some of us are lacking in the extra frosts/BRs/mud golem department, and I feel that would set these players at an unfortunate premature disadvantage. By all means, if both players agree to using drops, go for it - but as standard, I would assume dropless.

Just my 2sense.

Oh, and again: I'm in. :)

You have to get TAL approved before you can hand out TAL points.

I won't pitch a fit if Meat approves it, but I personally won't approve it. I think it's a better concept in theory than it will turn out to be in practice. I would anticipate lots of draw (or extremely slow) games.
