Shade – Beast Spellcaster
Hit Points - 40
Power – 15
Armour - None
Blocking – 60% Front 30% Side
Recovery - 2
Movement – 3 Teleport
Target –Single target within 2 tiles, LOS
Shadow Breath
Blows a gust of shadowy energy at a single target up to 2 tiles away . This attack will hit the first unit along its LOS (line-of-sight).
Possession
This attack is activated when an attack by the Shade will count as “from behind” (LOS applies). The Shade will be temporarily removed from play and the possessed unit will come under the player’s control for three turns. Friendly units can be possessed. Wards and barriered units cannot be possessed. A possessed unit also has its blocking chance decreased by 20% at the front (10% at the side) and its power by 25% rounded up for the duration of possession.
If the possessed unit is killed, takes 20 damage or more in one hit or the three turns is up, the unit will be de-possessed and return to its player’s control with no recovery (ie. can be used immediately). When a unit is de-possessed, the Shade will return to play “in” the position of the possessed unit and be moved 3 tiles in the opposite direction the unit is facing. If a Ward, Barriered unit or the edge of field is encountered within those three tiles, the Shade will stop 1 tile before it. If the Shade encounters a unit within those three tiles, the unit will come under possession. The unit that was possessed cannot be possessed upon de-possession (ie. if the unit has its back against a Ward or the edge of the field). If a Shade after de-possession cannot possess another unit or occupy an empty tile, it will be destroyed. If upon de-possession it cannot possess another unit but can occupy an empty tile, it will lose 10 hit points with 2 recovery, and be facing away from the previously possessed unit.
(This unit can “possess” an enemy unit: quite unoriginal, really. Basically a possessed unit comes under your control and loses 25% of its attack power and 20% block (10% side) while possessed. Note that the ability requires LOS, if you aren’t careful you can possess your own units: which does nothing except decrease its power. Possession only works “from behind”, otherwise the Shade uses its normal weak attack. This could make it not so easy to execute, particularly since the Shade is a rather slow unit.
The more complicated part is de-possession. A unit can lose possession if it is killed, damaged for 20 hit points in one hit (that’s after armour reduction), or if the three turns time limit is up. When that happens, the Shade is ejected from the back of its victim and rushes out for up to 3 tiles. It can be blocked by wards, barriers or the edge and stop short, or simply run the full 3 tiles and stop: in that case it loses 10 hit points at maximum recovery time, making it vulnerable. On the other hand, if the Shade meets another unit, enemy or friendly on the way, it will immediately possess it: regardless of the direction the unit is facing. This could make Possession a bit more interesting, since you have to be careful what will become possessed when the Shade is ejected: or purposefully place the Possessed unit facing away from a crowd of enemy units so that the Shade can possess another quickly.)
Additional Information
You can only place 1 Shade on the field.
(Note: since the Shade is removed from play while possessing, it cannot be healed during that time, and you cannot heal the possessed unit. The opponent, however, CAN heal their units which you have possessed.)
