So where do you turn when you're down and out?

This project is due tmw, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to solve this last part.

I have a conic (ellipse) which from the origin, goes up to (0,5) and goes to the left to (1,0) so the equation for it would be y^2/25+x^2/1=1 which is great, except I need to put the conic into polar form, and so far every time i've done it it hasn't worked.

If anyone can figure it out in the next 30 min that'd be great otherwise, thanks guys.

So you come back just so you can get some math! Shame on you. :(

Yeah basically.

I mean I read the forums once in a while I just don't post, takes up too much time, and now that i'm effed, might as well ask.

if you can, get a hold of xerent,dirka, or realist. I believe there not bad at all when it comes to math.

I don't have any of their contact info, and i'm currently graphing the rest of the project, and I can't get on aim cuz i'm not on my computer... so lets hope one of them drops by

Well I wish you the best on the project, I know how bad it sucks about to get effed in the A. But lets hope you get a good A, like an A+ .

I'd assume

x = 5 cos theta
y = sin theta

Then there are 4 equations you can use to to transform.

r^2 = x^2 + y^2
x = r cos theta
y = r sin theta
tan theta = y/x

I'm not too familiar with transforming from rectangular to polar (really only the other way around). I'd just look up standard form of a circle / ellipse in polar form, that would probably give you a pretty good idea of how to do it.

BTW, we need an all purpose math thread.
