Time is short, but this is an idea I really want to try out before I retire.
This idea was partially inspired by the general structure of Greed’s Backyard Unit Draft Tournament. It occurred to me, what would it be like if in a tournament, players did not have set advantages over each other? That sounded interesting, but at the same time I had to wonder, which set would they both use? If it was a turtle, advantage would be to the turtlers, if it was an anti, advantage would be to the anti-rush users, if it was a rush, etc. So here’s how this tournament works.
You and your opponent will take turns designing one set, a set that you will both use. Player 1 (decided randomly) will pick one unit and place it wherever they want (for this part of the tournament, there will be no delay if you pick the DT, you will both just take turns putting down one unit each; if you pick the DT, your opponent will NOT pick twice in a row next turn). Then Player 2 will pick a unit and place it wherever they want, etc. Although, if the DT is chosen, then Player 2 will only get to pick and place four units, so Player 1 will have an advantage in that sense.
They will place units by declaring the unit and the tile number, using this map as a reference:

The one limitation to the selecting process is that the cleric must be placed in the back row, to attempt to prevent complete and utter chaos.
Once the set is designed, Player 2 will then have the option to either choose who goes first, or whether the game is “same side” (or exact mirrors opposite each other), or “opp side” (exact same set, just with both setting close to the trash can). Whichever one he does not choose, Player 1 will choose. If at the start of the game the wrong player gets first turn, he will pass his turn, but the player that starts will still only be allowed to use units available to him had he gotten first turn (meaning he can’t use a scout, dragon, dsm etc in his first move).
This is a bit confusing, so I decided to give it a trial run with Priest, to make it more understandable.
Using a randomizer, Priest turned out to be Player 1, with me as Player 2.
Priest: Cleric on Tile 4.
Mith: Golem Ambusher on Tile 43.
Priest: Wisp on Tile 12.
Mith: Mud Golem on Tile 44.
Priest: Berserker on Tile 45.
Mith: Scout on Tile 33.
Priest: Scout on Tile 48.
Mith: Dragon Tyrant on Tile 46.
Priest: Frost Golem on Tile 21.
I decided I wanted to picks turns, and I take second turn.
Priest chose same sides, so he stuck with the set as we created it, and I switched sides, so I had a scout on 40 instead of 48, etc.
The opening looked like this:

We played a very interesting, difficult game, and Priest outplayed me. Then he got a key Berserker side block to solidify it.
If you have any questions, by all means ask them, but read carefully first, I think I have explained it fairly clearly.
I will run this in a single elimination, typical strict rules setting. Players will have one week to make the set and play their game.
