Regions Tournament Rules and Sign-Ups

Regions Tournament: Signups

Welcome to the 1st session of the regions tournament hosted by Magician, Legend Z, Rubbish and myself; We intend to start signups a bit early because, in order for it to be TAL approved, we seek to make the teams as balanced as possible.

There will be 6 or 8 teams, depending on interest. The teams would be divided in West USA, Central USA, East USA, Latin America, Australia/Canada, Two Europe teams, and One team yet to be decided.

Each team will have 12 members, 3 players per each style (Freestyle, Turtle & dropless grey) and, aditionally, one sub per each style. A captain will be picked for each region to organize the teams (Anyone can volunteer). The people from each respective region will vote on who they want from their region as captain. The captains can then organize their regions roster as they wish. There will also be a challenge feature, but the challenge must be accepted by both leaders. The rosters will eventually look like:

The games will be played as follows:

Team A

3 vs. 3
etc.

This will go on until all people on a team are defeated. If there is a last man standing he will then have to play ALL three styles rotatingly.

Rounds will be approximately one week long. Good PMs obviously have to be posted, so as to avoid disqualifications. You must provide a screenshot or confirmation from your opponent for a win to be valid.

If we get 8 regions, then it will be three rounds, single elimination, with a gold and a bronze round. If we get 6 teams, then it will be round robin on the first round(two groups of three teams), with a gold round between the two teams with the best records, and a bronze game between the two teams with the second best records in their respective groups. The official rules will be included after the signups are finished so we can decide how many regions will be participating.

When you sign up, make sure to make it clear which region you want to sign up for. This should be where you have lived for most of your life, NOT your favorite nationality. If you want to be a candidate for leader, then state that in your sign up post. Also, if your region isn't something already up there, then get some people, show me you have enough, and you can have the eighth region spot.

The actual tourney will probably start soon after the conclusion of the server war.

We are going to put Deto up for consideration. As of now, however, he is considered a Latino. We have also deleted one European group until we get more activity from the Europeans. We have also gotten rid of the "other" group, and moved West USA to Group B to even things out. TheCrimsonKing, I am sorry, but this means that until further notice, you will be removed from the tourney.

Actually in sports If your a citizen from lets say US and you were born in Germany, you get to chose which country you want to represent.

I'd like to put in my two cents for this tournament idea. The overall concept is solid, but the execution is questionable. Here are the specific areas in which I have concern:

1. Size of teams -- You are asking for each region to field at least 9 people, potentially 12. While that may be easy for some regions, it is going to be quite difficult for the minorities of TAO to recruit that many players.
2. Number of teams -- This problem run parallel with the issue stated in (1). Since so many people are required to be on a time, there cannot be many regions competing against on another since there will not be enough participants. A "Grand Slam" fields 64 people, which seems to be about the limit as tournaments go; the limited number will yield about 6 teams. Even if there were as many sign-ups as the last PSST, there will only be potential for 12 teams.
3. Representation -- Areas are not being represented appropriately is something I find especially irksome. The emphasis of this tournament is to have regions compete, but that is not how it is currently run. There is no basis that Australians and Canadians should combine; they are not at all close geographically. This issue can be addressed at the same time as (1) and (2). By reducing the size of each team and increasing the number of them overall, regions will more specifically represented.
4. Substitutes -- I think pretty much everyone will agree on me with the idea that it is better if more people would play than less. You current system of substitution asks for 25% of each team to be substituting. Addressing (1) will require less substitutes for each team, which will lead to solving (2). In order for every member of each team to have some games, another solution to require substitution every other round. Substitutes may also be used as tie-breaker games in case there are situation where teams have drawn.

I propose that teams should be cut to down to 7 players, including 1 alternating substitute. This will effectively increase number of the teams, while making teams more region specific.


In addition to this proposal, I would still like to participate under USA West.

It's not about guts, we're actually VERY open to suggestions & we'll take into account any type of advise or constructive criticism. We're already planning to do follow some of the suggestions DFP camed up with & we need to confirm if everyone running the tournaments agrees with the changes.

Also, I have a suggestion. I think that if we're going to have 6 teams of 12 people it's going to be really hard to handle, shouldn't it be like 4 teams?

I think that the fact that it's so many teams will probably make this tournament a lot longer and harder to contain, as well as harder to handle for those running it. I suggest there should be 4 teams, and those 4 teams should go according to continents and such.

-Europe and Africa
-Asia and Australia

I'll take myself as an example, I live in Virginia. If you look on the map, it's not north or south. I mean, I guess it could be south since it was part of the Confederacy in the Civil War..Yeah, that's right. Arena knows his history. :p But it could also fall under North since it gets pretty cold there during the winter, at least it used to. Or it could be neither since it's distance from Canada and Mexico are pretty close. Actually, I think it's closer to Mexico after I think about it.. :dry:

Me voicing my concerns has nothing to do with "guts." I simply don't believe we should have another tournament structure that is similar to PSST or the Server War where there are tons of people on each team.

To the directors of this tournament:
Nationality is something that has come up as an issue, in which players are choosing teams to be on based on where they are born versus where they currently live. A standard needs to be set that is consistent throughout. Set a standard where you have to sign up for the region of current residency, or where the participant lived most his life; using "where the participant" is born seems unreasonable because this is a "regions," not a "nationality" tournament. I don't want to have to start up a Team China just because of my heritage.

That's all I have to say, 72 is just too much.

72 people isn't too much. Go look at some of the tournaments that have been played. The Super Duper Strict Tournament (a gray tag-team tournament run by Mith) had well over 100 people, and it was a big success (at least I think so).

Basically, if it's run well, it'll be a fun tournament.

But as it stands, the only candidate that I see leading the Aussie/Canada team is allstar, and I'll be damned if I let that team be run by a crack head like him.

Alright, changes have been made. Australia and Canada have been split up, and the subs have been eliminated, bringing the team sizes down to 9. As it stands, we have 7 teams. We would like an eighth,(we were considering making East USA two teams, but dunno yet)but if we are stuck with seven, we will work something out.

In addition to that, we have also decided that you will play for where you have lived for most of your lives, not just whatever nationality you feel like. Please, if this makes your sign-up inaccurate, then correct yourself. If someone brings to our attention that you are not playing for the correct place, you will be removed from the tourney until you tell us where the correct place is.

The point you mention was discussed at length by the tournament commitee. Be honest: How many African players do you know in this game?
