I swear that these ODT are ruining the positioning of the TAL rankings...
How do they, in any way, reflect the skill of the collective community? There are so many people who simply are getting robbed.

Just because I am not personally being robbed of the opportunity this time, doesn't change the fact that other people are.
It's about the fairness and equality of the competition as a whole and not about my own want of TAL points. Yeah, I'm happy that I have a chance this time, but it sucks that Prof, Hool, Mag, Isaac, and other top players who deserve a chance aren't even going to be here.
Even if I win, do I deserve the 5 coveted points of being a tourny winner? Not if people like that weren't even here.

2 AM? You deserve to be tied down, beat up, then beat up some more, then shot, and then beat up again.

You can whine all you want about TAL rankings, but it's somewhat akin to whining about seedings in the grand slams. They cannot be a perfect judge of overall playing skill. For one thing, there are significantly more freestyle tournaments than any other kinds of tournaments. There is no way to, with perfect accuracy, demonstrate which players are the best. So get over it.
Something else to consider is activity. There are a lot of awesome players in TAO that don't compete in many tournaments in general, and hence don't have many TAL points (I think Wack has like 5 or something). I used to be pretty good at one style at least, but I don't play anymore. I don't have any problem with people getting above me in TAL points, even if I'm a higher quality player than them, because at least they play.

It is ok, Eagle. :) It is nice that you get worried, though. I am here and could easily play, but I choose not to, as in all the other ODTs I did not take part in.
ODTs are for those people who really really want TAL points. They are about nothing else. The weaker players sign up, the better chance you get at TAL points. Do I have something against this? Not at all. It shows that those people are trying, that they really want to have a chance at the cool prizes. I would rather let someone who really cares about TAL points win them in my place. Especially in ODTs, where I would just have no fun in competing. Even if you win, ODTs will be forgotten in next few days and they do not consist of the best players around. That means they are not prestigous.
I do not hate the TAL hungry players. Perhaps I envy them, that they can get happy about something like that. I would like to be happy because of such things too.

Gee, that's a new concept.
?????????
Edit: Actually... let me elaborate my question marks. Your post is ... well... let me demonstrate...
Me: I like ODTs, I like the people in them, I envy them the fun they have from it.
You: Why do you say I am a noob?!?!
Another example:
Me: I like apples.
Apple: You apple hater!
Did I say ODTs are bad? No. Did I say the people in it are bad? No. Did I say the people are bad for joining ODTs? No. Did I say they have a negative influence on TAL? No. Did I say the people in it do not deserve TAL points? No. Did I say the current 8 are noobs? Yes. Oh wait, no I didn't....
How can someone take what you did from a post like mine... For example... one of those people you mentioned that "I called noobs" pos repped me for the very same post.
Again, I like ODTs, because it lets the people who really want and try hard to compete for the prizes other people could get, who do not try as hard. I envy the people who have fun from playing in 6 freestyle tournies a month with different players in them. When someone good joins everyone is like: "DAMN SOMEONE GOOD JOINED, NOW I AM LESS LIKELY TO WIN" I have NOTHING against it. I prefer tournaments that consist of the best players around. I prefer prestigous tournaments. TAL points are no fun for me. I would love it if they were, if I cared enough for them to make this game as interesting as they do for you. That is why I envy you.
And just for the record, Lieutenant. You might have not been sure, so let me make it clear for you. I AM NOT SAYING THAT BRITNEY SPEARS OR GEORGE BUSH IS A NOOB IN THIS POST.
Lieutenant

I understand you Hool, I know it sounds a lot better to get TAL from big tournies and stuff, rather than ODT's where it's activity that counts more. But, in Top 8 of TAL, in order to participate you need to be active. I know you don't constantly search for TAL, cos you don't join any tourney, you join the ones you're interested in, but take elim for example, or sniper master. They'll join any tourney to get their TAL, and that's good, because they really want a Top 8 spot.
