For the record, I am starting this tournament early for Magician, Legend Z, Master TAO and The Professor? only. I will add more players when their spots seem secure. As there is currently plenty of time, the crazy precautions I have taken against people being unfair with regard to playing all styles will be probably unnecessary for now. But, it’s still good for everyone to know how this tournament is going to run.

Edit: I decided to go ahead and add Lieutenant. His 25 or so points isn't enough for him to be really secure, but he is guaranteed at least 7 points in GS3, so he's pretty safe.

This is from the first post of the main TAL thread:
At the end of the season, the eight players with the most points will compete in the season finals, which will consist of a massive round-robin tournament, playing each of the other seven players in each style: freestyle, turtle, and dropless grey. They will have all of August to play their twenty-one games. Players will be awarded 3 points for each win, 2 points for each draw, and 1 point for each loss (to encourage activity). It’s a lot of games to play in one month, so if a top eight player can’t make that commitment, the next player in line will be able to take his place. Players that are obviously going to be in the top eight may play their games earlier, to give them more time to get their games in (though they will need to notify me or Meat ahead of time about this). On September 1st, the player with the most points (which will hopefully mean the most wins) will receive a trophy for being the season’s overall tournament champion. If a player other than the overall champion wins the most games of a particular style, such as turtle, they will receive an additional 30 points for mastering that style.

As I said then, players that are obviously going to be in the top eight may go ahead and get started (I will edit in the final players in the top 8 in the beginning of August). If you would prefer to wait until August, you may do that as well. If you decide to begin, be sure to make sure your opponent knows you intend to play a game that counts for the season finals, as well as the type. To be sure there will be no confusions, you should both have a screenshot before the game begins with an agreement from both players. More likely than cheating is simple misunderstanding, so please don’t be lazy with this.

Players, don’t be stupid. Read every word of this post. If there’s anything you don’t understand, ask about it now.

I should notify you of a couple of changes from the above quote. First, I won’t accept draws. If you end up with a draw, you will rematch with the same sets, same sides, same first turn. Second, I reserve the right to not follow the set number of points per win or loss that I described above. I will see to it that the most deserving player is named the winner of this TAL season. Oh, and while I respect that you may not get quite all your games in, and may have to issue a couple of DQs, if you don’t have time for this tournament, let someone else have your place. If you end up with a bunch of DQs, I will be remarkably angry about it.

This brings up a potential problem, which is that different players have style preferences. If a turtle specialist and a grey specialist only have time for one game or two games, which will they play? The game type could result in a different number of wins, which would obviously be problematic. So to avoid this problem as much as I can, each player will specify their preferred styles of play in order (for instance, if I was competing I would specify “grey, free, turtle”). For each matchup between players, you MUST follow the specified playing order I have given you. These playing orders are in place specifically to avoid the problem of people trying to dodge games of their weakest style, and to avoid players bickering over which style to play rather than just playing their stupid games.

Another rule as a precaution to this potential problem is that by the end of the tournament, preferably you will have played all of your games, but if you haven’t, you must have played close to the same number of games in each style. If you have played seven games in your favorite style, and not at least six games in both of the other styles, you will be deducted points depending on how many of the other games you played.

To further enforce the issue, in any circumstance that a game between two players is not played by the time the month is out, one (or both) will receive a one TAL point deduction. If it is a game that is not your preferred style, you will receive a two point deduction. These are not points within the tournament, these are the points you have spent the year earning to get to this tournament, and that you want to spend on units and avatars. You WILL send PMs and make plenty of effort to set up your games with all seven of your opponents. Serious inactivity issues (or sliminess) will be dealt with by deducting further TAL points in addition to points within the season finals tournament.

Make no mistake, you will not do yourselves any favors by trying to screw over your opponents by not playing a particular style, or a particular player. You won’t get away with it, and you will be heavily penalized. If it is an especially bad case, I may even issue a ban for next TAL season. I hope I have clearly expressed the severity of the consequences of not being a reasonable opponent. You WILL send good PMs to ALL of your opponents and post them in this thread, and you WILL set up times with all of your opponents, and you WILL show up to those times and play your games. If you like invisibility mode on the forums, tough luck. For this tournament, I demand that you turn invisibility mode off, so people can know when you’re on and try to set up games.

In general, I reserve the right to adjust these rules in any way necessary to avoid people being asses and trying to gain an advantage by seeking to exploit a loophole or not playing opponents if it’s a game that isn’t their best style. As I said earlier, I will make sure the most deserving player is the winner of this tournament. “Deserving” includes conduct. If you win all 21 games and you have been the world’s biggest jackass in the process, don’t expect to be awarded a trophy.

You would be wise to take a screenshot of your opponent agreeing in the lobby that this is a season finals game. I don’t want to see any disputes. I would also recommend that you not play any of your opponents this month except for in tournament matches.

On a more positive note, we would all like to see these epic matchups between the top players in the game. I understand that not all of you know how to upload games on youtube, so I am not requiring it. But I will reward you with TAL points for doing so. For every five games you upload, you will gain an additional TAL point. Beyond this, I may award a few extra TAL points at the end of the tournament to players for being good sports, for getting all their games in, for being active and easy to work with for his opponents, etc. Similarly, you can bet that I will deduct points at the end of the tournament if you have been a pain in the neck. In this season finals tournament, I am Omnipotent. I can, and will, do anything necessary to make it run smoothly and allow the best man to win.

Congratulations to everyone that is even allowed to participate in this tournament. It is an honor for your tournament achievements for the entire year. You are competing against the best players in the game right now, so while you should give it your all, there really should not be any shame in losing, or even coming in eighth place. Have fun, (as is becoming usual of my tournaments) don’t be an idiot or I will boot your sorry rear end from this tournament just like any other, and may the best man win.

Hey guys, I hope you're doing alright. Up until this point, we're all winner since we're in TAL Season Finals, therefore congrats to all. On a first note, I'd like to get done 3 games per week, so I am hoping I can receive an answer from any of you. I am CST, GMT 5-, and my times are the following:

Friday: 10AM- 5 PM
Saturday: 3 PM-6 PM
Monday-Wednesday: 10 AM-12 AM

I am hoping any of these times work for any of you, then again I am willing to play 3 games, no more, no less. I'd appreciate it if you guys PM'ed me with at least a day of anticipation for the due date in which we would play.

Description: Game started out with a couple of shy moves, with both of us being very conservative. While he was aiming at my dragon, I aimed at basically anything. It was then that he got a Knight for Dragon exchange, but I had a much better position. For which I started to flank his cleric. After that he simply tried to bust over me, but I had already done too much damage to his knights, that his scouts wouldn't matter too much in the end.

Excellent game by both parts, I'll soon upload the video.

As for s/s of confirmation, I feel it is not necessary, as I recorded the game.

Description: Centered wardless vs. one-sided turt. I basically went over him from the first move trying to aim at anything, while he tried to cover up his cleric and important units, I simply kept on drilling. It was after 2 40% opportunities to kill cleric that I got one, which meant pretty much the game for me. Gg, Professor.

Thanks for the advantage MITH, but right now I think at least the 5 of us need training. As for me, I'm trying to get my skill up to it's highest level. I will start sending PM's on July. Unless someone has a rush to get a game, besides Isaac, tell me so we can start this.

EDIT: To Mith: I have a question regarding YouTube system and all. I actually played against Sniper Master yesterday and recorded the game and all. It was all going perfect, but at the moment of uploading it had already been 2 hours and the video hadn't uploaded yet. I was wondering... does it HAVE to be Youtube, or can I put it on other pages similar to Youtube?

Well, I was asking about that...but i wanted to start to get my games soon...because i don't want to be pressured by getting my games in a month..so i asked some players and they said ...they will be more patient...In addition if someone on the top 8 want to play just ask me ...i'm available to play for the final season tourney.

-----And Lieu...the video depends by how much time it take...
i uploaded one and took me like 4 hours.

I don't think so. He is very likely to get a top 8 spot, but with two grand slams undecided, he could conceivably fall into 8th place from 6th place, and then lose his 8th place spot to someone in the playoff. I'm not confident enough in his security in the top 8 to edit him in yet.

Me too, I think 3 games a week is a good rate. As for now, I told Isaac if he wanted to get our Free game done today. I have yet to see if my video system works, which is the only reason for why I haven't played any games yet.

Lieu has never hidden the fact that he plays on that account.
I've seen him playing on that various times on tourneys and he says he's Lieu.. Don't see what you're getting at by acussing of wanting to spy your sets, they don't really need it.

To request a game on a secondary is always sketch. Theres no defending that, especially in a big, important tourney like this.

Even if the intentions were good, thats not what its gonna appear to be and its better that people in this tourney simply dont do it.

it would be lovely if you guys and your infinite alt accounts would identify yourselves....

Excelent game there.

In my opinion, Isaac had the game, he only need use his frost for paralyze one knight of lieu in the last part, when lieu only had 1 range (scout at side of his cleric). and also with this knight paralyzed avoided than his scout at side of his dragon was injured.

Both played really good dam.

Also why the did you record your whole screen of your computer? :confused: you can just record the window of TAO. I also wanted to point out that maybe is not a good idea to post your games before you have played other ppl, because people see your set and know your side and everything, I don't know, just my opinion.

I really thought for a moment that Isaac had that game when he had killed all of Lieu's range and had his frost remaining, however Lieu pulled it off nicely and made Isaac attack him rather than the other way around. It was a preety good game, lets hope the remaining games will be similar.

It looked like he had a much better position on you for the first 5-7 moves.. but you turned it around even though you traded your DT for his Knight. It looked to me that the game was over after you got his Cleric. Well played by both sides. That game was all over the place.

Description: Opposite side turts. Both corners. He got first turn and immediately went aggresive. Causing me to play defense. I was able to weaken his mud for losing my wisp, and i was about to kill, but i still had my cleric clicked, and i accidently healed, instead of killing his mud. he then healed, and attacked with his mud, bringing my scout down. After i killed mud, he was able to kill my scout, getting the advantage.

After that he just bottled me up and took me out one by one. Had i saved my scout, i probably could have countered attacked, since i had a furgon, and he had lost mud, But i just didnt have the attackers. Letting his mud live costed me the game, and he never made any mistakes for me to take advantage of. He played brilliantly. Good game Isaac.

refusing seems a bit harsh, i said that so i would stop being asked to play everytime i log in to rev. i may very well play next week.

I was under the impression that it was our choice to play early. I am very active and will have no problems getting my games in. see: every tourney this season.

I'm at nerd, I mean, engineering camp, and I have only a laptop at very limited times(AKA, late at night), so I will probably not be able to play very many games. In addition, august 3rd to 9th I will have zero access as I will be on Vacation to Cape Cod. However, after that I'm not really doing anything, and willl be very, very active.

Okay, I know a couple of you are busy for a while in the near future, and I understand that. But most of you, no offense, spend a LOT of time on this game every day (or at least, almost every day). There is no good reason for why so few games have been played. You guys have done a great job all season long, it finally reaches this point, one of you eight will get a trophy once this is over, and most of you don't seem to be taking this very seriously. Just get some friggin' games done for crying out loud.

Almost all of you have an almost two week head start. I will keep being pushy until August. If by August, you haven't played at least a few of your games (except for AU), I will start deducting your TAL points as motivation to take this thing seriously. If on August 15th you don't have at least half of your games done, you will sorely regret it (something like a ten or fifteen TAL point deduction will be fitting).

No offense MTAO, but you say that because you dodge Isaac and I all the time. What's the problem if he puts a punishment? That would be saying you haven't played 1-2 games in a matter of 1 month, which is a load of time to get at least 1-2 games in. And seriously, if you were in PSST, and got DQ'ed you'd get TAL deduction, just think of it as PSST. If you don't get your games in by the due date, you'll get TAL deduction.

Comments: I had a strong start, but he had an amazing mid-game to outstand the great game we were having. I thought I had the thing in the bag early in the game which made me to confident and that ,combined with Stiv's great mid-game, gaved him the win. Good game.

Anyways; I've got to see if I can record games, it looks like a pain in the ass to upload them but I'd like people to see them and learn from them.
I didn't have the start I wanted, being 3-1. However all of my games have been great to play, I'll just have to concentrate more and put some good music while I'm playing :p.

Rub and I were playing yesterday our free game, it was like 5-6 minutes when he had to leave, apparently he had to go. I recorded the game, and nothing had really come up by those 5-6 minutes, except he killing my scout, and I his mud.

That game was over like in 30 seconds. But I ended screwing it up a lot more by not using scout earlier, and that scout block didn't exactly help the case either.

I took early advantage killing his witch for nothing and then I managed to flank him preety well, even though it seemed for a moment that he had me because he blocked a 99% shot on his knight that would've put me in a much better position. Thats not how you play alpha turtle aXXo, each player is supposed to stone first turn.

@lieu, that turt's of yours is pretty solid my friend.

There is no rule where it says you have to stone in your first turn, specially if its second corner stone vs second corner stone, if you have second turn then you don't have to stone cause its a waste of turn. Best move to do when its second corner vs second corner same side is to attack with mud without stoning.

You guys need to take into account that the overall rankings only include 6 people. Detonation and AU are the lowest in terms of games played and are therefore last...for now.

You are competing against the best players in the game right now, so while you should give it your all, there really should not be any shame in losing, or even coming in eighth place.

If anyone ends up in 8th place, it doesn't make you a bad player, but definally the weakest of the top 8 lol. I'm pretty sure everyone will be deserved of their spot in the end no matter how unlucky or lucky you get in the games. If you get last place or first place, then it is what it is.... you know. Because getting a certain place and saying you deserve better or you are alot better than what you got is just talking senseless crap. Besides right now theres alot of games still to be played to say who will be last or who is the weakest player of the top 8.

Comments: Same side game, with 2nd row turts. I got first turn and stoned, he then used his muddy to destone. We traded muds after that, with me having more stoned units than him. After wards he brought his stoned scout to destone me, i then freeze it with frost. After moving around a bit, he positions dragon to kill my cleric, and i do It for his scout and positioning. Now I have three stoned units, and he brings wisp down to destone, It's at 22 hp so i kill it. Now that my wisp is destoned too its killed. Afterwards he takes a gamble to kill my scout with +30 blocking, it blocks and then I kill his remaining archer. He surrendered after that. Pretty even blocking. Good game lieu.

Comments: Very close and good game; At the beginning it seemed the game was in my favor because i took his scout and cleric for my scout and knight, but he had a great mid game and he managed to pull all his units in my area and it looked like, for a moment, he had it won for it was 2 offensive units against 6. However mine were stronger and i had a cleric which made it possible for me to win. I enjoyed it a lot.
We'd play the other games but I think lag might've kicked him from TAO.

He saw the video I had against Stiven, where I get countered. In his own post he says he deliberately countered me. Are you serious? Prof didnt purposely counter anything. Thats just Lieu's stupid excuse for a loss. DK had form advantage, but he never knew Lieu's set beforehand. No need to start ragging on Prof for Lieu having an unbalanced set. Also this is the top 8 and players who are truly good enough should be able to overcome set advantages. First of all, countering a setup is a lame tactic to win a game. Lieu has posted his setups freely because he felt that people so skilled that have made it to the seasons finals wouldn't adjust their strategy so they can gain advantage from their opponents.

I know how it can be frustrating Lieu but it's pretty similar to you using a dsm. You used the dsm to jump into an early lead in damage to get some good positioning knowing that most gold players tend to place scouts in a few certain spots. He just thought 1 ahead that game and it paid off. Don't blame you for being frustrated cause I tend to get countered everyday but that's part of the game.

For the record, I didn't know Lieu's set. Infact the set he used was a little different, albeit he just moved one unit around. Fact of the matter is I had an IDEA of what Lieu might use, so I was smart and adjusted my set. Lieu has been known to use an anti and a straight line rush with the normal anti units. So I took a gamble...the only reason you guys are pissing and moaning is because it turned out like crap for him.

Now I respect Lieu for his skills and the fact he plays anytime anywhere, but this shitty sportsmanship is just that, SHITTY! In Pro Sports if you know the ball is going to one player, I'm pretty sure the smart thing to do is focus everything on that player. It's making adjustments. Because like I said earlier, I did not know his set beforehand.

So Deto and Rubbish, please shut up. You have absolutely no idea what is going on anyway. You jump on llrich for defending me, yet your doing the same thing with Lieu. This thread is for our battles! Keep it as such.

People are calling you out because of your idiotic statement boldly declaring that "Prof didn't counter you, Lieu is making excuses". Prof did counter him and he even posted so. Don't post if you don't know what you're posting about.

Countering sucks, but it's perfectly fine and a part of the game. Before going into a battle, pretty much everyone thinks about the opposing set and tries to use something good against it. Using a LW against a possible DSM is no different than using a DSM against a possible bunched up standard anti or a GA against a corner cleric.

Hm, I seriously don't mind if I get countered by a setup which is used on a daily basis. For example, if I got countered by a DSM rush, I wouldn't get mad because I know that's a pretty common setup. But using against that DSM rush a LW is simply taking advantage over the other.

Anyway, if people are doing this on free, I might as well take advantage agains EVERYONE's setup that I know, and simply use it to my adjustments against whom I know their sets.

Also llrich, why should Rub and deto be thankful from you and Pun? Even if you did classify, which I highly doubt, I don't think deto and Rub would've risked anything. More like AU and Stiv, don't you think? ;)

First of all, there is a big difference between countering someone's set by tricking them into playing you on another account before the game so you know exactly what it is; and knowing what kind of set they use and responding appropriately, which is what Prof did. If you know a player likes using antis, don't use a set that is weak against antis. That's just being smart. If you know a guy likes to use dsm rushes, teach him to stop using them by putting an lw in there.

Secondly, as Graphics well pointed out, Prof is not guilty of anything that Lieu is not guilty of in this situation. Everyone is trying to gain a set advantage. He uses a dsm as a calculated risk. If there is no lw in that set, he has a set advantage. If there is an lw, the other player has a set advantage. Anyone that doesn't see that is badly ignorant of how this game works. Unless you're comfortable agreeing to everyone using the same units before the game begins, there is going to be adjusting to try to gain an edge. Think about it. The basic anti is an effort to gain an edge over rushes (or was initially anyway). It's freaking CALLED an anti-rush. Did everyone forget that?
