Date ideas

So, this may sound a little sad, but I'm having trouble thinking up good ideas for a date.

I met this girl the other day who's absolutely bloody gorgeous. She's spending her summer in the US studying at the small college in my town, and she's from Spain. I asked for her number, got an enthusiastic yes, and need to figure out a date. Soon.

Normally, my bread and butter is something to eat, a walk around somewhere nice & scenic, etc. etc.

But seeing as how she's from Spain and it's her first time in the US, I kinda want to impress her and do something 'American'.

I'm friggin' horrible at thinking up good dates so any ideas would be great. Or just a date you really enjoyed. I'm thinking ice skating, drive-in, etc. I live near Boston, so a night there isn't out of the picture.

Hmm... This is a toughie for me to give advice on since I've never actually been on a date (ha ha, laugh it up), but my advice would be a nice restaurant or bistro, preferably something either sit-in or with a beach view (both of which are in ample supply here). That's a little pedestrian though, and I'm adverse to the idea of simply spending one's way to another's heart. Thus, my ideas are:

- Picnic under the stars (pick a good night, of course, which means ACTUALLY WATCH THE WEATHER). I don't know what you and your date like, honestly, but I can spend hours just lying on my back and looking up at the stars. Before I had a car I'd make the 20-minute walk to the nearest field. Now I'll just find somewhere secluded and watch from atop my car.
- Make dinner and eat there (only if you have some place private to do so). Grab a recipe and wow her. Movie's optional, music isn't.

You're really not giving us (or me at least) much to help you on though. Do you know anything she's interested in, or do you plan on finding that out the hard way? :p

Its always fun to do more then just one thing when you go on a date, and then your also showing a little bit extra effort, which is always bonus points.

Other options instead of bowling are iceskating,club (if she likes to party), or anything fun like that.

The club is a good idea because they enjoy it a lot over there. I went there once and they called it a disco +P

If she hasn't been in town long, this is really not a bad idea. Take her somewhere that's nice, shows the city in a good light, and is maybe somewhere she hasn't gotten to go yet. (Ask first! Have a backup location.)

Otherwise... buy some guns and go to a shooting range?

If you can do it, mini-golf is a way better plan than the bowling people have been mentioning. Not all girls like bowling, but ive never met one that has a problem with mini-golf. And mini-golf is something that doesnt require much skill, so she wont have to worry if she sucks.

If you know what she likes, putting together a picnic somewhere scenic is money in the bank and always a good move. Dinner and ice skating is something i like to do. Its an easy way to get to hold her hand. Going to a Red Sox game would be a good idea as well, as LT suggested.

I would think you should try to get to know her, maybe just go get coffee in the afternoon or do a casual lunch, before you actually ask her out on a real date. It'll help you figure things out better.

I hate bowling with a passion. But we have candle pin bowling so I thought it might be novel to her.

Fact of the matter is, Daemon, you're going about this all wrong.
Let me use an excerpt from "How To Get Women" (http://tacticsarena.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32112) to show you what I mean.

I've always enjoyed going to a comedy club. Come early, enjoy a few drinks, have a few laughs, and walk her home. It's hard not to leave with a smile on your face. (It's where I took my gf on our first date)

Not really the same thing, but there's a few from liverpool visiting my lab for the summer and he wanted to do something "american" so I took them to a baseball game (A's, so RedSox should be better). We got a ton of beer and hotdogs and they absolutely loved it.

We all have almost no understanding of baseball and paid little attention to the game. But it was still a great experience.

I dunno... here is a pretty simple equation that usually works for me on first dates. If i am truly interested in what the woman has to offer; Dinner, activity, walk somewhere that you call "your place" (be it a park or the beach, whatever) and a drive home. I wouldnt do movies on the first date because that kills the whole point of the first date which is to get to know one another.

In the end it also really depends on what you are looking for from this girl, because if its not a long term relationship odds are you are better off taking her to a bar, playing pool, getting her drunk, acting like you care what you talk about during the walk home, and then finally handling business. This is just all my experience from going on my 4th year in college.

You can take it or send it back my way, up to you.

Or if you are looking for a long term relationship get the girl drunk, and don't take advantage of her. Then the next day/that night (if she isn't to drunk) say something along the lines of, "I just wanted to get to know you. I'm not looking for a one night stand, and you seem really special." WIN
