View Full Version : New New Rankings are up

The new rankings are up for Armageddon based on the accumulative scoring system. I can say I was helped by it immensely.

When the January rankings came out I did not make it because I could not get in enough games to break into the list of people with so many more attempts. Now, while I am still handicapped by not being able to get in as many games, I can beat opponents with higher scores and move up faster.

Sure, I'm only ranked 100 and barely made it, but that is probably with less than 20 games total since the scoring system was put in place. I have heard of some people playing HUNDREDS of games already.

Go take a look. It is most interesting.

Once again, grats to the Elite, who prove worthy of their name (at least on the GL server)! Remember, Aro used to be one of us too!

That being said, there are still ways to boost your ratings: i.e., play highly-ranked greys. However, once the Gold server is up we should have a truly representative score to write home to Mom about.

If a grey is over is highly ranked, you can pretty much bet they have beat a gold or two. Fair enough to fight and beat them on your gold account.

As you get up over 1100 or so, it gets harder and harder to score points and you have to fight just about only golds to get into the top 20 scores.

I'm thoroughly confused. I can only see the new rankings for Banff while the rankings for Army and GL are the same ones from Jan. 10th. WTF???

yes yes they are..bah at this point they dont show much..since not everyone started at same time..and a bunch of people who will remain nameless (RATCAGE!!!) noobslay..so rating isn't completely accurate..

Hey hey I personally like the new ranking system over the old one, this will slow the cheaters but not completely stop them. I never have enough time to play as much as I would want. Last time I checked on my rating I was in the mid-900s. That's good enough for me... I'm still gray but oh well.

How could a noobslayer (Ratcage) get above 1200, let alone 1300? Does he deny battles from good players? I just don't see how it could happen without absolutely everybody knowing about it.

Most of the top spots in Army are pretty accurate with the exception of players who haven't been playing alot such as ROR and a few others. Mysterious Wanderer deserves the #1 spot and very close behind him is snarr which is also accurate. All i'm saying is that the old ratings were completely out of whack and the new system is a much more accurate indication of how strong a player is.

You can gain well if you dont play a lot.
You just have to beat some people a couple hundred points above you.
a 1050 beating a 1250 gets 24 points in one game
a 1050 beating a 850 has to do it 4 times.

4x the work for the same gain.
You can gain with fair skills and more time
or gain with excellent skills and less time

Ratcage plays only noobs, previously..he is starting to accept some challenges..but mostly jumps in 750 rating games..he gains 1 for winning..and yes he played that many games..the earleir games he prolly gained much quicker..but now its a lil harder to gain..and yes everyone in banff knows hes a newbslayer...

I was one of those low ranked greys he played. If what you're saying is true, its nice to know I took 32 points off his rating.

Who cares who and what he plays. The ranking coorelates only between the amount of games you have won/lost, and the average ranking of your opponent. You don't have to beat golds constantly to get into the top 100, 20, or 3. I have played my share of gold games, and definately won more than I've lost.. but still they only represent not even 5% of my game total I bet. I just play to play, whatever open square is there.

I'd also be willing to bet that I am the highest ranked on GL, because of my indiscrimination. 750's are fair game just as much as 1200's.. it was their choice to step into the ring.

In any case, if you do have such a problem with him being a "newbslayer" just do better than him and take over the lead. Simple as that.

And that was a heart-warming message from #1 rated GL player, Tavern.

How many games u play is still more important than how good u are... I should have contributed more to my own server and bring honor to my clan.

Taveren

Well, it wasn't meant to be heart warming. It's more pointing out that being the best really has nothing to do with being #1. Not with this ranking system, nor with the last. Which is fine really, this game is meant to be fun, and I believe it is. That is the only reason I play.

Until there is some sort of listing of wins/losses against others within the top whatever ranking, that actually shows who you have beat AND simply challenged.. being number one doesn't mean much. I don't know if the coders have any desire to do something like that, or really can do it. It would be nice though. Maybe even another perks for gold members, who knows.

Bah, I'm one less than xyx in the ratings. That's cruelty right there.

Ah well, I'm pretty much happy with the new ranking system. It's much better than the old one in any case.

Nothing any1 else hasn't said before, really, but I needed my two cents :D

Or, to get your rating up, you could play Elite-members like yourself :D

Sorry 'bout rubbing it in but that game this morning made me late for work...

More to the point anyway, since I don't see that anyone has brought it up..

You will not make it past 1400 ranking against new people. You will have to defeat someone that is atleast ranked ~850 to recieve 1 point when your ranking is that high.

I think that the new ranking system is far better than the old one. However, I am just wondering the effect on Golds when all the Greys are reset (if the reset occurs again). This will reduce all grey ratings to 750, while Gold ratings will remain around 1300 (by the time the reset comes). This means that any gold who actually cares about ratings will no longer play newbs and low ranked players, since they will gain 1 point for a win and if the enemy's witch blocks 36 times and they lose, they will lose about 50 points. While many golds would not care about this, I foresee (having asked the mighty Bottle, the God-Cat) that this may be a problem. Already most golds almost never play newbs- surely it is in their interest to coach a new generation of potential golds?

Just an opinion, if anyone wants to tear this post apart you're quite welcome to.

Long live the Bottle!

Thanks Siquo, an 1100-rated grey who beat me last night. It was a Great Game, no matter how frustrating it was for me.

I fell asleep at the switch, letting my dragon get hacked.

I'm a better person for it. ++ *snif*

...and my Furball got Mothballed too as a result. Who else was it who said that their Furball cost them three losses against greys? Oh well, I'm sure I'm better than that, anyway. I only lost one.

Well if thats the case you guys will pass him him soon enough cause he will be forced to either play higher ranks to advance or stay put. and if he does play better players and advance it means hes good, though i must say do advocate for people to play all people even if they are better cause then the rating system is more representative. Do you want to have your ranking knowing that you are bad and dont deserve it? I;m totaly not implying thats the case Taverner dont get me wrong.

Snarr, Ratcage does not deserve his rating, and he admits it..the few times he played golds..me being one he got pwned..so he just doesnt do it..he plays the greys only and like the greys give him a few rating..and that adds up..since most of his games result in the newb leaving anyway..

UH smub i havent abeen pwned by all golds. Ive beaten most of them that ive played. I admit to not being the best, but not the worst. Id say 20th. The golds ive lost to were smubeht, ozmaj85, rogue_wolf(1-1), pyro_guy4(1-1). I have beaten other golds like ravus rhin(2-0), dark samurai(3-0), and more ive been trying to face but now turn me down =/. The 750s i jumped were not on purpose, i never checked stats before i jumped someone. Also, xyz you jumped me not the other way around, while i was trying to play a friend testing a new setup.Smubeht the second game yes you blew me away but the first i got you down to one.

I'm not going to argue the merit of earning it or not, but you can't say he didn't do the leg work to get there. I just hit 1400 a minute ago, well ahead of anyone else on any server. Does this make me the best? Far from it. I just means, sadly, that I put more time in faster than the next person. It's the way of the system.

Ahab, can't say that I've ever lost because of it, although sometimes I wish I had the knight it replaced. It has saved my ass many a times though, especially against golds.

Snarr
02-04-2004, 03:20 PM
Well in that case the system will show it, if you are not the best this system will show that. All it needs its time thats all, at some point you will no longer be able to accumulate points and the less frequently playing players will catch up. All it needs is time. Luckily in army most people play most people, not many back holders, they want to merit their ranks, though not all.
