I made this thread to see how many people in the TAO community are actually 18 and elligible to vote. Out of all those I also want to see how many are voting in this year's presidential election. For those of you whom are elligible to vote but are not voting...why aren't you?
I was talking to my friend's grandfather who's a war vet. and he says that everyone who can vote should vote because it is our right as a citizen and it is a privelage where our opinion should be heard and counted for. Also saying that soldiers are dying everyday to protect our freedom and that we should honor them by not letting their sacrafice go to waste.
I dont know about all that really but I am going to vote just because I really think this country needs a change and I will do anything I can to see the US go in a different and better direction.

<-- Old enough and plan on voting. It seems that everyone I ever vote for loses though... guess that's what I get for being ultra-conservative in California. Maybe I should test my luck and vote for Obama... see if I continue to lose

Sadly, like most states, your vote won't count. After all, it is cali.

You vote for whoever Mommy or Daddy tell you to vote for.
Repeat until you have voting age kids, after which you determine who you're voting for by throwing a dart blindfolded at a red/blue checkered wall and voting for the pretty color your dart stuck to. Tell children to vote for that color too.
Repeat until dead.

Maybe it's just the rebellious child still lurking in me, but I decide to vote against who they are (mainly cause my dad is kinda stupid when it comes to politics, he voted for Bush twice in a row. That pretty much sums it up)

I'm old enough to vote, but I won't be voting, I really don't like either of the candidates. Mccain > same as bush :S I don't even want to get started on Obama. Oh, well...just have to see what happens.

Word. I can (and will) vote...but there's no point.....there is no way Obama can win Kansas. Not implying who I will vote for here, I'm tempted to write in for Megatron or some wacky shit like that.

I can and will vote, but as for what your grandfather said... I believe it is ok not to participate. I would rather have informed voters vote rather than having people who are not informed vote for someone because of relations or celebrities that tell them too.

One of the things that I have always heard is...
"If you don't vote, you don't have a right to complain."
Basically, voting gives you the right to tell others when the elected officials mess up, "I told you so!"

My dad voted for Bush twice without blinking. Funny thing is, he's too ashamed to vote for a ticket with the name "Palin" on it.
Says a lot about Palin.

Oregon is undoubtedly going for Obama, but I'm voting because of a close Senate race and ballot measures/local elections.

Sounds smart. Perhaps all the well informed voters should stay home November 4th and let those morons pick our next president yet again!
Simply put, if you want to stop the morons from electing our president, vote yourself! Unless you are a one of them. In which case, continue believing that we can stop idiots from electing presidents by sitting on our butts on election day.
Just registered for the AIP and plan to vote for my first time. Excited to wait in line for 3 hours...No but really should be worth it if I elect the candidate that wins. ;D

Considering he tells off all of his teaches when they try to help him, and his ultimate goal is to become a hobo... I'd say that's a good bet.

In Aus we have it simple.
1. Vote
2. Pay hells big fine
Take your pick.
Anyway, I think its completely moronic for people saying that their vote doesn't count and that they're not voting.
Seen those Simpsons episodes where Homer doesn't vote and they lose something important? Thats you.
haha. Simpsons taught me something. <3

Does your vote really count when you don't want to vote for either of the leading party candidates? Not really.

yes, because i didn't ask for their help and they keep harassing me. you've never had someone try to "help" you before?
regardless of whether i vote or not it is still more or less up to the morons. plus the smart people who aren't right anyways.
my goal of becoming a hobo is completely irrelevant. lots of smart people do weird things. i was an excellent student in socials studies and AP government and i got a 5 on the AP test. I'm at least well informed about the history of government in America. Which includes a lot of discussion on what decides elections.

Yes.
Because you aren't voting for one of the other lead candidates, they lose support they could have had.
So the vote you MADE didn't make a difference. But the vote you could have made does.
