View Full Version : Disconnection losses

There's a serious problem with the system of rating points as it goes. While this problem has not happened to me, it has happened to many people.

If it is possible to discern a disconnect from a closed window, it would make sense for the person who disconnected to lose half the points, or a draw. Even if it's not possible, three quarters seems reasonable because the person who "won" would still gain points.

It seems unreasonable to me that a person using a dialup connection could lose 30 points due to a poor connection. That's a harsh penalty for a good player playing a bad one. 21 points seems bad enough.

Therefore, what is the answer?

Don't beat up on crappy players.

It won't be changed, and shouldn't

Then there's two obvious methods to change this:

The first I'm going to put in a new topic thread - list the rankings of players in the lobby prominently so that we're not blind about who we're playing. Or do you think I know that I'm playing a newbie when I do?

The second is more subtle; make a newbie server while you're making a gold server. I don't like playing golds, even when I win, and I don't like playing newbies, even when I win. Or, similarly, an UNRATED server. Actually, that's a new topic thread too.

Ideas are flowing. :)
