32-Man "Arena Chess" Tournament: Sign-ups and Round 1 (TAL Approved)

CHESS:
A game long compared to that of our beloved Tactics Arena. I've always found these parodies to be a load of bogus. Therefore, I decided to make a Tactics Arena mini-game as close to chess as I could find.

HOW DO YOU PLAY?

It's simple, really. You and your opponent each have a set mimicking that of a chess setup (details forthcoming.) You then try to *check-mate* your opponent, or in this case, kill their cleric. You may not, however, stone your cleric or include 2 clerics.

You set your cleric middle of the back row and build your set accordingly:

ALL UNITS MUST BE IN THE BACK 3 ROWS
NO DRAGON TYRANT
STONE GOLEMS ARE FINE, BUT NO STONING YOUR CLERIC
UNITS MUST ALIGN IN 7 ADJACENT COLUMNS WITH THE MIDDLE COLUMN BEING THE ONE IN WHICH THE CLERIC IS POSITIONED
NO MORE THAN 1 CLERIC
GOLD DROPS ELIGIBLE! :)
YOU MUST HAVE 7 UNITS IN THE THIRD ROW IN ADJACENT COLUMS WITH THE MIDDLE COLUMN BEING THE MIDDLE COLUMN OF THE BOARD (THIS ALLOWS FLEXIBILITY OF PLACEMENT WITH 2 UNITS IN THE BOTTOM 3 ROWS)

KILL YOUR OPPONENTS CLERIC
KILL ALL MOBILE ATTACKING UNITS (ESSENTIALLY, ELIMINATING ANY UNIT THAT COULD KILL YOUR CLERIC

Hatch: I am allowing gold drops unless you say otherwise, big guy.

Rule I left out, you must have 7 units in the 3rd row in adjacent columns. With your cleric in the back, middle, this gives you the flexibility of 2 units in or behind the 3rd row. These can be anywhere.

For the last setups, I didn't know what extra unit I should add.

I just had a 3rd game with Ol' Time. The first 2 were relatively uneventful, with us both being noobs.

The 3rd game is where shit got heavy!

We traded muds. I furged up a storm. He took most all my attacking units and left me with a knight, a BR (which had penetrated and attacked his cleric) and a trapped scout (surbbbed in with 10 HP.) I had built up a good enough defense that my knight/BR combo in his grill was his main threat. In the end, he didnt think, forgot to realive my knight could attack a shrub and move right next to his cleric and i took unit. I won with 2 attacking units in play (scout shrubbed in) while he had 2 knights, a br, and both scouts.

Taught me one thing: never take your eyes off the prize. The cleric is the goal. Take it, you win. Wont even matter if you're down 4-5 units ^_^

I challenged the creed for our Chess game, he accepted, we got in game. 1 move before i kill his cleric which it was pretty obvious i was going to, he continued playing instead of saying gg, what made me think he did not realize after he lose his cleric he loses the game. I asked him and he told me he didnt even read the rules...

So i dont want to take this as a win. He had a valid set though... and he saw mine which is the biggest problem for me. If Doctor Device decides its better to replay the game, ill be happy to do it anyway.

Okay well it's good that we're both CST. That'll help. Tonight I won't have time for a game, unless it's after 11:00 PM or so. I'll be on after then for an hour or two.

Wow, just wow. I dont know if its because i am drunk right now ( id like to think so XD) but DD pwned me three consecutive times in the chess mode. I really appreciate the one who made the tourney plays like that his own tourney. Congrats XD.

I feel good i had like 2 different units to his set. One of them he said it was a great adition. This style should be considered as a new style in all tao tourneys. Its simply Fun as hell. And luck is almost never involved.

I believe this statement is very harsh. I hadn't read the rules in a week or so based on the fact of not needing to pay attention to this in that amount of time. All the same he did validly beat me, so good game Rag.

You gave no chance by only mentioning your playable times, just like "i dont care about you, but ill play at these times", notice that there is a huge differnce between our times zones, and of course your times would midnight/morning for me , obviously i cant make it. Thats arrogancy, try to talk and make a conversation to arrange the game before you assume wrong statements, there are pms and visitor messages, any option should be good, but since "you'll ignore any vm or lets play now" message, guess who the "slow" here.

Well, i already posted my schedule in the thread, but since i guess you skipped over that post of mine, ill re-post it for you

As for my game with Snowolf, i didnt see him today, nor did i see him during the week and after i didnt see him on Monday, we were never in contact again. I hate to leave this decision on you DD, but im leaving right now for the weekend and wont be back until Sunday evening.

If I move on to the next round, here is my "PM" to my opponent for next round so that hopefully something can be arranged for me when i come back.

My availability:

Monday: 8-9am, 3-6pm (possibly later if we can arrange something)
Tuesday: 10-5pm
Thursday: 1-5pm

Yea, it was well-played by ZAD. I was a few moves away from completely annihilating him, but i couldnt piece it together all the way. Spending the whole game on the defensive is tough and ZAD did a good job of threading his way in.
