FPS vs Legends Turtle Tournament (finally) [Archive]

Rules
Each team has 11 players. 9 starters and 2 substitutes. All 9 starters from one team play the 9 starters from the other team, resulting in a total of 162 possible games – each matchup between two players consists of two games, an FPS Alpha Rules turtle style game, and a Legends Rules turtle style game.

Here are the rules for Legends Style:
A turtle is a formation that has a stone golem in the back row, cornered or next to the corner, or to the very side in the second row, or in front of a cornered cleric, with at least 4 other units within stoning distance of the golem's original position. The formation has no golem ambusher, no dsm/pyro, no witches and has no mobile ranged units in the front row, except for Dragon Tyrants. No unit is allowed to be put in the first or second row from the central vertical line on. Legends Style games must be played opposite sides.

Each player has 18 games to play. They may allow a substitute to play up to 2 games for them (or 2 substitutes play one each). A sub may not play more than 9 games – they need to split the work fairly evenly among the total possible 18 games that can be subbed. The sub games can be in either FPS or Legends style, and do not need to be distributed between them equally. Subs should only be subbed in if the two players have drastically different schedules and rarely (if ever) see each other online, or if it appears that 2 players will not get their game in for another reason (ZAD and I will decide if the other reason is a good one).

If a player disconnects from the game, both players in the match must agree upon a rematch from the start or from the position from which they left off. The player who does not d/c is REQUIRED to take a screenshot of the situation at the end, and list waits / health points of the units in play. If they cannot come to an agreement, it will be up to the captains of each team to decide. If they cannot agree, I will bring in an impartial third party member.

Before you play a game, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU AND YOUR OPPONENT ARE CLEAR ON WHICH STYLE YOU ARE PLAYING. Also MAKE SURE YOUR SET IS LEGAL UNDER ALPHA OR LEGENDS STYLE RULES.

A win will award the team with 3 points, a draw 2, a loss 1. The first team to get over 327 wins (this number could change depending on the # of draws, since there are 2 right now, this is the #, wins. See post on page 32 for reasoning. Since it is a little complicated, basically the first team to pass 81 wins, wins.

The tournament starts on Tuesday, February 10th at 12AM EST (GMT-5), and ends Tuesday, March 10th, at 12AM EST.

IROK and AFO represented us last year. And they both play more here. It wouldn't make sense if they played for Legends.

Eh, whatever, people who were born in FPS' belly should have a chance instead of those who are originally from Legends.

This is something people can interpret differently. I personally prefer FPS players representing FPS and vice-versa. You might disagree with me, but both are valid points. I just would've prefered seeing people like Hool, Mag, DFP in there representing the true FPS players.

AFO is originally from Banff just as an FYI. Plus, Sniper, AFO and IROK have been playing FPS exclusively for the past 2 years maybe less, but it isnt really a big issue. Lieu, i really wish you just spoke up during sign ups, you put this on yourself by not voicing your opinion. Lets not take away from group victory now, lets focus on winning this shit.

How is lame to have me on the team? I've been playing on FPS exclusively for quite a while now, and I was on the team last time around. Just because I first made a name for myself on Legends doesn't mean I am a "Legender". I have been on FPS longer than I was on Legends, and my career technically started here.

Besides Lieu, I openly stated in the tryout thread that I'd give you my spot if you wanted it. It's your own fault you didn't try out.

Legends just happened to be where I made a name for myself, and that's only because I couldn't afford to pay $5/month for a gold here.

I suppose technically you could say I'm from FPS as well. I found FPS from addictinggames.com and it took me several months before I discovered legends. But extremely few remember me from my FPS days since I didn't get involved in the community. But this doesn't matter. I disowned FPS the moment I discovered legends. Legends is where my heart is.

I seriouly doubt they'd played more time than I have on FPS. AFO, Sniper and IROK passed most of their time in Legends, and I'm going for my 4th year on FPS...

Pretty good game. Only won by 4 damaged units. Brutal got my cleric early but I got his range. My frost was able to do some good damage and my attacker advantage in the end won it for me.

Opposite corner game. His furgon back-row (2 knights, no dragon) versus my standard back-row. Luckily, I got first turn, which helped, as well as a neutral furgon front hit to kill. Once his furgon was gone, he was pretty much toast. Good game Blud.

Comments: I kinda had him till one point i put on purpouse my scout and br in his poison wisp range since in case he uses it i would hit his wisp with my dragon, but i am so dumb that i did not realize my dragon had 1 wait turn. He obviously used his wisp and all my advantage came down in that move. When i do this kind of stupid mistakes i always make like a couple of weird moves after. As expected i made 2 stupid moves and he took the advantage till i got a side scout block that let me be even once again in the game which it was all what i needed to finish it. Gg thou.

Sorry guys.. I didn't do as well this game.

Had I not d/c (this is the first time I've disconnected in over a year), I would have won, but since he didn't take a s/s it was too difficult to reset up (well I remembered the position exactly but it was too hard to describe to him).

No excuses though (lol, I just posted like 10), he outplayed me in the rematch. Good game dude

I feel like I acted like a douchebag towards Luzbel after the d/c because I whined for the repositioning, and I think I did during the second game and afterwards too. Hell, probably in this post as well, so I'm sorry for that.

However...

This is the only time I'm going to let not taking the s/s slide. Everyone is required to have read the rules and follow through accordingly.

I just lost to professor. What can i say... I had the advantage near to the end. I made 1 BIG mistake which i realized immediatly. I moved my scout gaving him the option of saving his mud hiding it behind my scout and allowing him in a few turns to take my cleric, but i had his so i was fine. At the end i had a 28 hp frost, with knigh at 41, full br stone golem ,and a freezed mud, vs his stone golem and frost at his field and 1 full knight and a dragon near to my units. I just needed to keep one of his units near to my frost and kill it. I just needed or to freeze his dragon or knight, and keep my frost alive ( at 28hp), i could have done many combos, like stoning, protecting with knight and br. But why did i choose?, to give it to him for free!!. I did not realize the right side of my frost was open and he could kill it with his dragon. I just needed to be patience and find the right moment. I cant blame anyone for this, i am just losing concentration in my games. I should take a rest.

You played pretty good and never gave up. I couldnt be concentrated till the very end and you did. My fault, you win. Gg Professor.

Haha i probably should be more like 2-2 in legends and 3-1 in FPS, but since my units dont block they can go fuck themselves! I dont think luck really was a factor in our game eagle, since i had none if it and i didnt really base my strategies on a good coutner attack. It was more of a mistake on my part, you played well given the blocking.

At one point I thought Eagle had it, being a unit up, but then he wisped three of my units, which was actually a mistake since it let me bring my mud and knight up to kill it, gaining me position and allowing me to kill his wisp and being on even terms again. After that he again had a chance for an advantage, but he went for a frontal on my dragon (32 hp), it blocked, and then I brought my mud to back hit his knight which left him with 21 hp. At this point he either saves his knight or goes for my dragon.

Either one I think would have put me at a great advantage and at that point trading my dragon for knight would have definitely won me the game. Anyways good game Eagle, always a challenge playing you.

Uhhh, i dunno if you have been reading any of the battle reports, but i have been in position to win 2 or 3 of the legend turtle games. I just absolutely got none of the possible blocks or hits that i needed to get the W. I have not been relying on chance either, all the shots i have gone for are over 60% if not more. Really the only two or three games i should have lost were the two FPS ones to Rag and Uall and the Legends game against Brutal Rage.

If Number_one wants Reymo to essentially switch places with him (putting #1 on the bench and Reymo as a starter), I am okay with that. Mach would be too busy to take over for all his games I think.

I'll have to discuss with ZAD before we come to any final decision though.

Opp side game, I went on the offensive pretty early, and destoned him with my mud. We exchanged muds but I had a better offensive position. I regrouped and re-stoned my scouts, knight and wisp. Then I rushed in again and took his cleric. From there it was about who spread more damage and killed units faster. Gg.

His 2nd corner vs. my 3 knight back-row opp sided. He got first turn, we traded muds to destone each other. Then we traded clerics. He was always one step ahead though, and again, my knights were too slow. I gotta stop using this set :P Good game.

The FPS game was very close, he had an advantage after the first ''fight'' then we both came back and restoned. I had knight, 17 scout, drag against 20 scout, 21 drag, 32 knight, 55 frost. I lost scout and drag for drag and frost then got his scout but my knight was too much damaged and he finished it with his knight left.

Leg game, it wasn't very hard for me. Dark7 attacked with everything and a dragon side block with +50 or so made it that I could win without much problem because he had to suicide his scout to get my drag then it was downhill for him.

edit: By the way Bludz, you forgot my win against Llrich Leg style.

FPS: It started well for me and I killed his cleric and scout and dealt a lot of dmg to his other units for my scout and mud. Then his furgy came in :(. I told to myself, that I wouldn't get trapped by that furgy but it almost happened. I lost my drag and wisp for his furgon and deal a bit of damage. Then I played a good end-game with my scout, knight, frost, cleric left but honestly I got lucky. I got like 3 front hit on his scouts and 2 had + and 2 front hit on his knights. If I didn't get most of that, I probably would have lost.

Legend one: Well, I got a side block with my beasty that made it very easier but it was pretty much the only block. Well fought game Bludz, GG.
