View Full Version : EXP 1 One day tourn CLOSED! TAL pointS reward!
Realist

This is the first experimental one day tourn. Here are the rules.
Sign-up is in Rev. The tourn will start at 3:30. After start, there will be a long window of time in which you can join the tourn, so if you are reading this after 3:30 come to Rev!
Style is 6-unit no repeats, no knights, and no dragons. This means you can use any 6 units you want, but no two can be the same, and no knights or dragons are allowed. But read this post first.
Two innovations exist in this tourn. They take a short while to explain, so read carefully, but they are actually pretty simple and if you know the rules to some other games you won't be surprised.
Everyone starts with 10 chips. There is a 2 chip initial buy in for each game. Winner takes the pot.
Doubling rules:
There is a (theoretical) backgammon-style doubling cube in each game.
At any point after the game starts and before the first offer, either player can "offer a double." The other player can either resign, at which case the pot goes to the offerer, or accept the double. If the double is accepted, both players double their stake in the game--so if buy-in is 2 chips, each player adds 2 more to the pot in the first double.
Once a player offers a double, only the other person has the power to offer another double. Every time a double offer is made, the other person gains control of offering doubles until they make use of this power, at which point it switches.
If doubling would ever result in more chips in the pot than either player can afford, then the stake of each player (if the double is accepted) is the number of chips owned by the poorer player.
Please take screenshots of doubling if you doubt the honesty of the other player, and please be honest. Report the pot size and winner when the game concludes.
Challenging rules:
Anyone can challenge anyone else at any time that both players are in the lobby, provided both players have enough chips to pay the game buy-in. If the other player has fewer or equal chips they must accept, unless they have played you in the last three games, in which they are allowed to refuse if they choose. If the challenged player has more chips they don't need to accept provided they are waiting to challenge someone else. However, if they wait a long time before challenging anyone else then they must accept any challenge (I will keep track, hopefully won't need to invoke this rule). Announce your challenge in the lobby.
Buy-in cost will raise steadily. You are out of the tourn if you have fewer chips than buy-in. All information regarding how the tourn plays out will be in the next post.
TAL points will be rewarded on a proportional basis to final chip count. The total pool of TAL points will be determined by how many players participate, so get your friends to join in.

I play for Bacon.
MTAO, you lost. It sucks, yeah. You got unlucky, yeah. No need to act immature in the lobby about it (and before you argue about me only not complaining because I am in first...I was at 6 points (last) because of counter-forms and bad luck; I did not complain).

Closing thoughts:
Well, the tournament got off to a rocky start. Not many people grasped the rules, and they were difficult to follow (at first). It was a chaotic, free for all.
It was fun.
The tournament idea itself was great, and I appreciate what meat(and Artist) and Realist have done with making new, fun, styles for people to play. The tournament took forever to finish; even if each player only played five games (and I, alone, played twenty) there would be 150 games. If I had to take a guestimate, I would say there were around 300 games played.
Despite the slow finish (it lasted 4 hours!) it was great all the way through. It sucked for some players who were doing great, and then lost it all on a few games. But hey, that's the way the tournament was ran.
If you could just find a way to reduce the time (or at least let people know what they are getting in to!) it would improve it drastically.
Overall? Great job Realist!
Oh...
How are the TAL points going to be dished out? I saw Realist say that they were going to be done based on points...I don't think that's exactly fair; I have a lot of points because I won a few key games. Still, some of the other players [like Geoff and Priest] worked their arses off trying to get games won. And, when you take into account that this ODT had around 300 games in it, five times the
64-Man Tournament = 5 points to 1st, 3 points to 2nd, 2 points to 3rd and 1 point to 4th.
...
Seems a bit sketchy to base it soley on points won in the tournament. Now, don't get me wrong. More points should be rewarded (yay me! :p)...but not soley based upon.
Rubbish

It doesn't incorporate poker, it incorporates backgammon. It even says so in the post. :) Poker is an entirely different kind of betting game.
Thanks for the comments, Pikachu.
TAL points will be decided tomorrow probably, I'll talk with the TAL people.
I'll post my thoughts on the tourn in a bit (tired now, lol).

Everyone who got somewhat far played many, many games. Its quite excessive but he did play well
Pika played more games because he went to almost lose every chip (to 4 i think), i should've quit when i was at the top with 80+ chips but pika blocked a several side hit beast to beast and made me lose 30+ (doubled) lol.
My games were about 15+ and all of them were pretty fun, too long for some though, but grate idea and nice management by realist.

What?
And you couldn't quit; you had 78 chips halfway through the tourney.
Good game everyone, I hope Realist hosts another next weekend (or something similar) :)
No, there were only like 6 players and i had like 84 chips and you were at 32 or something like that,We went into a game and we doubled to get me at 50s =/, the rest was at less than 30 chips, so i could've just sit and wait , but meh who cares, it was fun
