The time has come to separate the men from the boys. Now, on the brink of oblivion, 14 fighters still stand (with some people on the bench). They started at 140 strong... and one tenth remain to enter the ever infamous PSST Game 5. It's time to show up or go home. The round lingers in suspicion... and it will be decided in this round!

You better bring your 'A' game. You better be breathing victory. We don't have time for your tears, your fears. Piss blood, bleed urine, do what you gotta do to get in your element. Because there are no redo's. There is no prize for second place (well... yeah there is, but that would suck for a pep-talk).

Here we stand. At the clash of 14 titans. We've seen the Hero's fall, we've seen the underdogs fly. Where do you stand? How will you be remembered in this PSST? It's do or die. All eligible people that are on the bench this week were thrown into a hat and randomly selected to play each other. Yes, you could play someone on your own team.
If you agree on a style to play, you may play it. If not, the default style is Freestyle.
Winners will receive 1 point.
Losers will receive 0 points.
A win by disqualification results in +.5 points.
A loss by disqualification results is -.5 points.
Losing a bench game does not remove you from the tournament; you are still active in your roster. Bench game outcomes can only affect your Bench Score.
Highest Bench score at the end of the tournament wins the 6th Man Award and 4 TAL Points!

my times are kind of hectic this week. Got my state qualifiers for speech & debate this weekend and have practice everyday.

Birds of Prey vs 13itch Please
Match: IROK vs BaxVarlet
Winner: Draw
Description: Good game. I had DSM, he had anti in opp sides. I went on the offensive early, as did he. I used my DSM to burn his knights and mud, and brought my mud and knight up to get his cleric. He took mine with his DSM. I lost a scout. We danced around for a bit, and he got an 80% frontal block with his DT which allowed him to get another burn in.

We continued to dance around until it was my DT and 2 knights vs his 2 knights and 2 scouts. I knocked him down to scout and knight vs my DT and knight, and my DT didn't block a frontal at 19 HP (which would have won me the match). Came down to my knight at 12 HP vs his 16 HP knight, both with + blocking. Neither of us wanted to risk it, and we drew.

I guess we'll reschedule.

I am -5 so EST. Ive got midterms this upcoming week so I wont be free in the mornings, but ill be free after 2pm - However late you want. Also lets try to get in our game by Friday. After that is spring break and I will be gone for a week.
I can play on wednesday, thursday and friday from 5 to 7 PM this week.

Ninai is a good player, I'm sure he can learn turtle. Hell, I beat hool after turting for 3 days, and ninai probably has more talent at these things.

Also, vintage has been known to be incredibly sexy, so I would not be surprised if he won.

Comments: One heck of a game. His anti vs my DSM rush, I got same side with the DSM, but he got 2nd turn. I pressured him the whole match and managed to get to his vitals for the cost of my DT, DSM, and a scout. Despite keeping my cleric alive Z really never let me use it that much. He just kept pressuring my knights. However, his knights were very hurt and the one or two times I healed proved to be enough. He surrendered after his last knight died because his scouts weren't going to kill my knight and scout. Great game Z.

Lol SUCK IT UP son. Yesterday in Realists tourney I had your cocky ass won until you got a scout side block to save yourself. Then even though you already won you got 2 side hits on my scout in a row and you didn't show ANY sign of remorse or 'that sucks'. Just "GG".

Nomad is a better grey agreed, but Geoff has proven to be quite capable of holding is own. I'm betting on Nomad, but Geoff is certainly capable of winning.

I've been holed up all weekend at a female's house livin the good life, and I had to come on to see if any games have been played. At first I see the draw between Bax and Icry, and think, sonofa.. , but then in the next few pages the bombs get dropped.

Not only does our Captain once again show his leadership strength by example, but my man Vin proves the doubters and critics wrong (guess that Legends influence isn't so bad eh? ) Still a ways to go but surely all the "its over we got this " talk coming out of their camp thurs and fri has died down.

After reading through my posts of the past discussing "end game"... It occurs to me that we may have missed a vital step in this new process for moving away from "freestyle default."

IE: What happens if there are 2 people left on a team, not 1...?
I'm not comfortable with saying 1 free and 1 gray as the default for that because one of them very well could be a turtler. But this is a dilemma that no PSST has faced thus far.

Right now, I'm thinking that as soon as anyone from this round wins (I'm a bit behind, I know), I will have them (or their captains, probably their captains) send me a list in order of the preferred styles, most - least preferred, they are to play. So, for example, if I were a captain sending in a list regarding myself, I would send in:
meat.eater: Freestyle, Gray, Turtle
From there, though I can't guarantee everyone their favorite style, I can try to make them not play their least favorite (because, as I've said from the beginning, there's no reason to stick somebody into their least favorite style in a tournament in which they are supposed to be specialized--especially if neither parties have any desire to play it!).

I'm going to sleep on it. Any suggestions are welcome.

Why not do how you have the end game solution for 1 player. Captain of the team with less people picks the 2 styles first, then rotates to the other captain next game if 2 people are left again.

However this time around if it's going to be 2 v 2 you could just randomise which style won't be played and tell the captains which styles they need 2 players in. Then they send in rosters that way.

I don't like random. I liked the end game solution meat had in the draft. Captains alternate picking styles, the team with the 1 person picks first. If its 1v1 or 2v2, then you can randomly pick who gets to choose first.

I know everyone says this, but I really wish there was a way to watch games...nomadic vs Geoff is going to be epic. I've played them both, and as much as I wish I could say nomadic is the favorite, I really think it'll be a toss-up. Nomad's played me tough before. Geoff played well also, even though he had a rather large set advantage to help him (NOTE: I'm NOT saying he countered, just that his set was at an advantage over me). So this will be an excellent game.

Bring it home! You guys can do this!

Oh, and IROK...way to Stay Classy San Diego...I expected nothing more and nothing less from you, and man, you sure didn't disappoint me with your responses and attitude.

If it's Many v 1 though, the 1 person should just play each opponent in a randomized style.

I disagree, if it's many v 1 the many deserve the huge advantage of playing their players in their best styles. The styles should be rotated evenly and the captain of the team with more players gets to choose which style his players will play in. But I'm glad you agree with my earlier post :)

Sorry I misunderstood the first part about not been faced before, I just thought you meant this situation hadn't occured before, not that we had never tried to incorporate a non-default freestyle idea before. I apologise for not reading it properly. I don't think I phrased what I meant correctly. If there are 2 players on each team I think that 2 different styles should be used, and you randomise which ones are. So it could be free and turt, free and grey or turt and grey. I think there should definitely be a chance of there being at least one freestyle game as both Bax and Vint have that as their preferred style I assume. Although we all know they are more than competent in other styles. And that a randomisation of some sort is probably the fairest way to play a 2v2. If Geoff gets through Eagle is almost certainly going to want Geoff to grey and Hool to turt, Bax would probably prefer 2 freestyle games, but a minimum of one. That is why I think it should be randomised on which styles are used, but not for each matchup. Meaning we could randomise the 2 styles used in a 2v2 situation and then ask the captains to pick which players will be in which style as normal.

The many already have a big advantage. No need to further it.

It's the fairest thing I can think of. Signing up for PSST entails the possibility of having to play any and all styles, as you don't choose what section you are placed in, your Captain does (of course he does try to accommodate your interests).

Honestly if it were me vs 5 remaining players, I'd rather that you assign me a random style to play each one of them in, than have me play them all in turtle and freestyle. That isn't fair, since that removes my biggest weakness, grey. My team would deserve the disadvantage -- there's no reason for compensation by giving me a choice to most likely not have to play in grey at all (my worst style).

And I'm not just saying this because I think it's going to benefit my team, because if Hool advances and then his random style vs any of our remaining players turns out to be turtle, that's bad for us. I know with the system that you want to implement (ordering styles and then choosing the favored style in the matchup of 2 players), Hool won't be turtling anyone on my team -- he'll probably end up greying, which isn't as disadvantageous to my team.

Seems like Birds of Prey are still on the run with a dissadvantage that can even out if Geoff manages to win. Good win nevertheless Hool, it's hard to manage the pressure when your whole team is counting on you.

In my opinion, I think cycling through the styles is the best way to go in a "last man standing" situation. Have the opening two matches random, and the rest follow from that.

For example, Freestyle and Grey are the first two matches played, then Turtle would be the 3rd, and repeat the cycle.

However: If BOTH players agree, then they should be allowed to play the match in whatever style they choose. The randomisation merely means all styles *should* be contested in a last-man standing where more than 3 players are remaining.

I realise this is your tournament, meat, and I'm not trying to tell you what to do. Merely my 2sense on the topic.

Well said. Every single match I've played I have had Gig, Bludz, and Deto (other people too but mostly these 3) giving me input about my setup, practice games, and thoughts about what I might expect from my opponent. This has proved invaluable several times. They may have lost their matches but instead of sitting back and doing nothing they have tried to help the team in whatever way they still can.

Also, there's the cheerleading. Match Strike gets my vote for #1 cheerleader after creating the best clan ever! :D

When I say "I'm not kidding" at the bottom of this post, I'm lying.
In the event Geoffrey Loses:
Hoolwath will have to play the 3 people, 1 per style. Bax is allowed to assign these people ot their certain styles, and Hoolwath is allowed to pick the order in which he plays them.

In the even Geoffrey Wins:
We have a very unique situation. Not only do we have 2 people, but we have 2 people on both teams. If it were 2 vs. 10, or even 2 vs. 3, I would easily say that Bax would do the same thing, assign his people to a certain style and allow Geoff/Hool the playing order. But now I face the absolute horror that we could have a very large possibility that these games could be the last, and not even represent someone's best style at all--as there are 3 styles.
So I'm thinking that we'll flip a coin and decide a winner. I'm not kidding.

I really hate that idea too. Whoever gets to challenge first has a huge advantage.

How about this:
1. Match-ups are random.
2. Each player submits 2 styles that they would like to play. For example, I pick Free and Grey, Hool picks Turt and Grey, and Geoff picks Free and Grey.
3. If only 1 style matches (in the above example I get paired against Hool, then that style would be Grey) then that's the style we play.
4. If both of our styles match (in the above example I get paired against Geoff) then the style is determined randomly amongst the 2.

This way no one has to play their worst style.

The thing is, you can't think of the individual players. You have to think of them as variables (IMO)

Even if player x is 20x better at turt and SUCKS at free, if he puts down (turtle, freestyle) and matches up freestyle, he has to play it. In theory, it's his fault he's not better at the style.

I actually very much like that idea, vint, and that's actually what I was already doing (I already asked the captains to send in the "rank" of style preference for players). My only qualm with it is that we'd have to randomize who plays who. What if you were playing Geoffrey? His rank would be Gray, Free. Then what?? Or even if it was Gray, Turt against your Free, Gray... I'd much rather match up two people who have Gray second on their list than one person who's favorite style it is with someone else who's it isnt...

But if y'all are okay with it, thats fine with me.

Here's a solution I came up with. While there MIGHT be two games only left, if they split those games there will have to be a third, which means there could still be one game per style left.

If the first two games were Turt and Grey, that would be unfair to Bax's team. If the first two games were Free and Grey, that would be unfair to Eagle's team. So let's make it fair: the first two games will be Turt and Free, each one gets their advantage. Then, if they split games, there's only player left on each team, and they play grey for the title. That would make it one game of each style, and considering it's PSST, that seems like a reasonable solution to me.

That seems like a neat way to do it. Though, Bax would have to agree that:

A. A freestyle game is to his advantage
B. A turtle game is to our advantage
C. A grey game is neutral.

I think it's pretty clear that those things are true, and if he does as well, then that seems like a reasonable solution.

Why don't we just talk about this after the Geoff/Nomad game? I wouldn't want to count my chickens before they hatch.

Note (as merely academic interest) that this system is manipulatable. If you know your opponent's first and second choice are 1. grey/2. turt, and your order is 1. turt/2. grey, you should pick turt free and be guaranteed advantage. (The other player, of course, will pick grey/free for the same reason and you'll end up playing free :))

I like what AU said. We should wait until the two players get matched up. Then they each pick a style they dont want to play. The default could be the style the end up playing. If not, i say we just rotate styles. The last man or two standing need to be versatile enough to play anything. (like Blud stated, entering PSST entails possibly competing in all styles of play) This needs to happen so that the team with more players has sort of a reward for doing as well as they did and so that the last person standing be able to prove their mettle by winning in all styles. I say you guys just pick an order (ie. Turtle, Grey, Freestyle) and rotate between that until one side is left with no one. If not AU's idea is really solid.

bah they are just another form of communication. it is a way to communicate privately to someone with some emphasis on feeling.

example: Someone negs me about the color of my font then they are telling me they don't like it, if I think their argument is stupid I reply as such.

it's nothing to make a big deal out of just a more acceptable form of "name calling" to try (in vain) to keep it form the rest of the forum.

First: Bax - turtle - I have been playing turtle till now, so I am most trained it that style I think.

Second: Vintage - freestyle - No need to play a grey game if I am going to lose the freestyle game, so I will play vintage first and see how it works out. I am playing turtle before freestyle, because I am affraid that if I got to freestyling my turtle would suffer.

Third: Nomadic Method or something like that - grey.

Got a scout block at the start that saved it for me and forced him to focus couple extra turns on it. Also got a DT side block later on but it wouldnt have killed it. At the end it was 2 Knights vs 1 Knight and Scout. He ended up killing one of my knights at +120 and I killed his scout. It was then a 19 knight vs a 16 knight. gg
