"TAO Chess" Style Tournament

TAO Chess by Bottle & Taymed:

Goal: Kill opponent's "King" while protecting yours.

Rules:

You must select and announce your "King" and colour to your opponent directly after entering the game. A king can be any non-ward unit of your chosing, however you may only have 1 of those units on your field. (I.E. If you chose a knight to be your king you could only go into battle with 1 knight.) This will be dropless gold tourney.

A screenshot after each player announces king should be taken in case of any discrepancies.

The game is completed when a king is killed. At this point the player who has lost his king should surrender. If neither king is killed by the end of the game the winner of the game will advance (I.E. One player has all of his remaining units, including his king, paralyzed and has lost the game, without his king actually dying). If by chance a game finishes as a draw with both players keeping their kings alive the game must be replayed (same forms and kings).

Once again, another screenshot should be taken of your opponent surrendering incase of any discrepancies.

Disqualifications:

Disqualifications would have a place when:

A) A player missed 2 times pre-arranged matches.Screenshots MUST be available in case you want to claim a DQ over your opponent, you must include pms, vms and/ or in-game logs and times ( take a complete s/s with the clock of your pc )

B) A player did not follow the tournament rules, i.e.= Did not take both of the s/s begin and end of the game, did not use a "No Repeat" King,etc...

C) A player showed NONE activity through the week.The same case if its for a double DQ.

Disconnections:
If a d/c happens and if you cant agree to re-set (same in game conditions that you had, units, damage, etc) the game must be replayed with the same kings and sets,simple as that.


Format:

The tournament will be single elimination with 16/32/64 players, depending on amount of sign ups, with random pairings each round.

This seems kinda... like every form is going to be the same. Everyone is going to make the stone golem as the king. It's a pain in the butt to kill... I feel like maybe you should have a couple more restrictions on that...

Just my two cents.

Is not that hard if you have the proper adaptability, this is not a common style, you can set whatever you feel like using, so if you use a stone golem is because you're willing to be defensive and to be honest, for fps it is easier to beat them since you have more "LOS" units and if you combine that with mages or maybe 1 or 2 defensive units as range (frost, whisp) you would be one step ahead.

More mobile and attacking units usually are more effective than less and deffensive units if well used. I remember a couple of entire tournaments being dominated by dsm-pyro and wisp combos supported with knights or something else.

Dont worry for showing up your sets, it is planned!!! . This is meant to show your real skill and adaptability in any conditions, you can either use 1 or 2 sets through the tournament or just change every battle, thats the main point: Diversity for the enjoyment.

Sin, if you would use your DT as king , you won't be using it as attacker unless you have something else to back it up like dsm/pyro or dmw, otherwise you will lose it real quick.

Rush might be better than turt, but a rush will likely not be able the stone golem before the turtle can kill whatever the rush's king is.

I told my friend who has been playing this game for a while about the tournaments on these forums, and when he brought his laptop over to my house the other day I showed him how to sign up for the forums and tournaments. I did not know that using the same internet gave you the same IP, I thought it had to be the computer. Is there any way for me to prove this or am I just screwed?

No idea what same host means, but I don't see why you can't discuss the issue just because Mag is the one who banned me. It's not a personal thing with Mag, so you should be able to make decisions about this.

Here's my reasoning:

I've known Anti for awhile, and have not seem him do anything even slightly underhanded.

If he was stupid enough to try to get two accounts in one tournament, he'd do it a smarter way.

Apparently Tconn did not sign up with the same computer, but rather his laptop at Anti's place. This sounds like an honest mistake.

Call me a softy, but I think we should believe him.

edit: I might personally be opposed to sharing my TAOing with real life friends (ie. people who live close to me and come over to my house) but that doesn't mean others are.

From where I'm standing, it looks as if you have tried to sign up on two accounts. I will admit I was surprised to see that come up, especially from you. I don't have access to ingame IPs etc, but if you two played from the same host - as you said - the IPs would be the same, and it could look even worse for you (think potential boosting allegations etc).

In my defence, I did ask for a 2nd opinion, and was hesitant to issue the ban. This does sound like an honest mistake, however: I still require proof that you two are not one in the same. Arguably the best way to do this would be to see both of you in the lobby at the same time.

Lieu, its funny how you make a comment about a tourney concept instead of pointing at the game , wich has not been upgraded in a long time, yet, you are still here and without complaining, you should be worried for your own tournament concept or idea and your own activity, dont you think? You SHOULD. Otherwise, people could have, say, a stone golem + cleric, with the stone as their king. The opponent has a frost golem. See the logic?

Ok I think you made this a bit clearer but since I'm not so sure abiut this I'll ask again. I was in a game with guide, my king was a stone in the 2nd last row. He had a frost in the front row so right away in the beggining of the game he froze my stone, so since the king is paralized he wins right?

Not if you still had units able to attack and remove the effect...the only way you would of lost is if, he had A) killed your king or B) froze every single mobile unit + the king.

I would go for freezing = win. Adds a whole new aspect. In addition, it can be stopped easily enough if someone wants to try to use it offensively, as is what happened when Guide tried to freeze my king while not really focusing on his own. I ended up getting his stone down to 14, and his frost trapped every step of the way from getting too close. It also settles a complicated end game position.

Comments: Ridiculous. We start off- I'm using a corner bomb with a stone instead of a third knight. He uses a spread bomb. He says his dragon is king, I say stone. I kill off his units, while he desperately scrambles to kill my stone. He gets it down to about 10, at the cost of everything but those units. I've blocked everything off, and he's rolling his DSM around my edge, and his scout up my flank. I heal as his DSM comes in range of my stone-- he hits it. I then nuke his DSM [without moving MY DSM]. He moves his scout up, next time it moves he kills my stone. I go to use a pyro/scout shot to kill it... He gets a side scout block. This was after the game I'd just had with Elemental in which he had 4 scout side blocks from the same scout. Would have been a flawless if he hadn't got that damn block.

Oh well, that's what my set was made for. Be flawlessed or win. I maybe did play too fast, it's true. But if all the game was decided by one block, it was actually close. So it was not really RIDICULOUS. The mistakes i made at the beggining and you making some good protecting moves gave you 1 turn of advantage. When i got the block i got that turn on my favor to win the game. In other case i woulda lost.

My timezone is GMT+11 hours.
Weekdays I can play roughly from 9:30am to 1:40-4pm. Then again some days from 4 till 8:30pm.
