they said they would be more comfortable with the money order option, is that still available and if I send $10 USD, my account will permanently be gold? Also what does it mean, upgrade twice and get the other extra units?

No the gold subscriptions here are 5$ a month. With that subscription you recieve all units. You are thinking of the Legends Server that is a permanent gold for 10$ and permanent gold+ extra units for 20$. The Legends Server is currently down and doesn't appear to be going back up anytime soon so it looks like you will have to deal with 5 dollars a month.

alright, that sounds pretty simple, now i need to find a way suitable for my parents, possibly the money order =)

Honestly, Paypal is really the safest easiest way. Basically all you have to do is set up an account and link a debit or credit card to it. From there you can follow through with the online purchase. It is very easy to cancel the subscription and it's very safe. Paypal allows you to get your money back if someone shafts you or cancel your purchase before the transaction goes through.
